Do not stay at this hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/23/10
The staff at this hotel will steel anything you leave unattended for more than a few minutes, even in the lobby within security camera range. I made the front desk aware within minutes of my stuff being stolen. It was about 3am and there was no one in sight except for employees. It took hotel 'security' manager twenty minutes to respond and then did nothing except write down on his had what had been stolen and told me to check with security in the morning. In the morning, I contacted the security manager on duty and he was completely unaware of what happened and then proceeded to refuse to check the security video. Old San Juan is great and a rain forest visit is a must.... just stay somewhere else!

A fun family trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/06/09
Our family stayed over Thanksgiving week. We all had a great time in PR and at the hotel. It was in a beautiful location with great views of the Atlantic. I agree with other reviewers that the drinks are way over priced-15.00 for 2 tap beers-yikes-we just walked across the street to the liquor store for drinks, water & pop. The staff also gave us great tips on local places to eat. I would recommend this location for families-there were alot of people with small children, the beach was great (for the little ones) you could do some snorkeling there. If you want big waves(like my husband & son) you have to go to a different beach to catch surf. The rooms were clean & the fridge in the room was awsome

Not worth the price
By HOWARD SF, 09/24/09
This hotel is overpriced for what you get. It is a old hotel that has been renovated and added on to many times. The rooms are nothing special, just average. The resturants are also average and overpriced.

Would return again if I just wanted to relax
By RhondaP, 06/13/09
This is a very nice hotel looks renovated rooms up to par bathroom nice until you pull back shower curtain (pink tile out-of-date and faucet dripped all nite long). I would stay here again and recommend to others. Staff was very helpful and nice. Breakfast buffet is on the expensive side $26 pp. Drinks at bar are expensive 2 Margaritas $26 at out side bar. Overall enjoyed entire stay. Was worth the money but would eat off property to save money. Pool area nice they even have hammocks to relax in. Convinent to Old San Juan only a few miles nothing really in walking distance to eat only a Subway and another local restaurant. Stayed from May 31-June 3, 2009

I'm not coming back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/12/09
I found this experience to be less than satisfying. This particular property was dirty, overpriced, not maintained and the food was just average. I've always been satisfied with Hilton family hotels however this one needs some major improvements. It started with my room. The room was dirty, towels were brown in color instead of white and on my second night, the shower know broke completely and maintenance finally replaced it 2 hours later. The room rate was expensive and the view from my room was the roof and a glimpse of the ocean if I stood at the absolute end of the balcony. Everything was overpriced in the hotel and the food was awful. I won't be back and I'm thinking about cancelling my HHonors membership.

Kind of fun...
By Caramel, 05/06/09
This place was fun, but not up to out expectations. Nice for unexperienced travelers. Beach was nice, as were the hammocks, but the pools, though extensive, we not kept clean. The grounds were also mostly neglected. Restaurants were good, not great, and very expensive. Room had a nice balcony, but was cramped and uninviting. Old San Juan was the highlight of the trip. There is a restaurant called Marmalade in Old San Juan. That is an amazing restaurant. You must go there! Over all, nice, but very small chance I would ever go back. Not worth the money, and not in a nice part of town, either.

A Wonderful Stay!
By MF04, 04/18/09
O.K. The food was expensive and the lunch menu got a bit boring. The hotel charges $20.00 a day for valet parking which is just crazy, but if you just want to relax and lay in the sun all day & night, you don't need a car. The staff is great and helpful, the view from most of the rooms were breath taking. One can even sunbath from the balcony. The breakfast buffet is reasonably priced and delicious and the spa is also reasonably priced and worth visiting. In the lobby you always find a cab waiting to take you where ever you want to go for about $12.00 within a reasonable distance. The night time walks by the private beach and pool are amazing and the Starbucks in the lobby that is open until about 11:00pm is a lifesaver. A wonderful and worth wild trip. I have read some negative review before and after my stay @ the Caribe.... but I'm glad I followed my instinct because it was WONDERFUL!

It is truly AMAZING!...Trust Me!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/09
This place is outstanding. This was our third stay at the hotel. The staff members are extraordinary and helpful. If you want room service in the morning, I highly recommend the Abuelita's Avena (oatmeal). It is great. THe pool is great, and the beach is small but private, which is a major plus. At night, if you set on the beach chairs that face the water, you'll feel a great breeze and feel at ease. If you find the food to be expensive, which is understandable, there is a Subway right across from the resort. Being a NEw YOrker, I have no problem eating Subway for lunch =). Overall this place is great it was my third time and I can't wait to go again. THis is coming from a Puerto RIcan who has family on the island. I would recommend this place for every type of traveller. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!

You can do better.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/09
We stayed at the Caribe at the suggestion of a friend and because it was close to the cruise port. We payed $400 a night - which didn't include a resort fee of and taxes - which put the hotel at over $500 night. It did include breakfast - which consisted of pastries and cereal. They did have another restaurant with a more robust offering - which the manager said would be an additional $10 per person. After complaining about the screaming baby at night and the poor breakfast selection - he finaly agreed to comp us to the "better" breakfast. While I don't mind spending $500 night on a hotel - my expectations were that this was a $500 a night hotel and it's clearly not. I felt once they had you "on their premise" you were at their mercy. $12 mojitos and $140 for lunch for 4 burgers - you can do better elsewhere. If you stay here - don't pay more that $200 night - and make sure that breakfast and resort fees are included. Otherwise - you're better off looking elsewhere.
