Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, Ocho Rios

My Husband and I went here with another couple and we were all very disappointed! It took several hours to get our rooms, the resort was in need of repairs - very rundown. For the week we were there, in the hallway outside our room the ceiling was leaking and they just kept buckets to catch the water and tried placing plants around the bucket to hide the leak! The food was terrible, the drinks were a joke. When ordering any fruit drink it was a pre-mix(kinda like a slushy machine) and they just added the rum. The live entertainment was not very good and only lasted til 10:00pm, there was a disco bar but was always empty, the ocean was partly pretty except for the seaweed growing everywhere. The employees were not very friendly nor helpful, most of them could not speak English enough to be understood. The huge buffet room was located partly inside and partly outside and while trying to eat the terrible food We saw cats walking around and inside where the food was being prepared and even at our tables...some of the tourists would actually feed the cats from their plates, to me this was unacceptable! We did not feel very safe because even though it was gated at the front, anyone could come in on the beach because there was no guards watching who came or who went.

We got refreshments on arrival which was pleasant and our luggage was taken to our rooms. The rooms were not great, but was adequate, afterall you so not spend that much time in the rooms. The views from the room was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, it nice to get some ackee and saltfish, dumping and green banana on holiday. The hot tub was very hot, the music good and the drinks folling freely. We visited in June 2010, I would definitely return. Love it.

I stayed at the resort in December2009 daughter, it was great value for money , excellent service, good facilities,...... i cant fault it, I will be back before the year is out,i would definately recommend it,

I visited Sunset Jamaica Grande in July and had a wonderful time. Yes, it took a long time to get your room, about 5 hours, but when you arrive at the hotel there is someone to give you refreshments. The room was ok. They clean it the first day and then replace the towels and bath gels the other days, The white tile in the room was not white. The water in the bathtub took too long to go down. The hottub, pools and beach was beautiful. The food was ok, more jamaica food was needed. Overall, it was good, I will go back.

The hotel rooms are in disrepair. Air conditioners leaking or not working. Bathrooms are worn and dirty in appearance. Elevators or slow and hot. Food is recycled day after day, very little variety. Most of the hotel staff are unfriendly and rude.

Last year June was my 3rd time staying at this hotel. The thing i like is that this is a nice resort for family's, or couples or just relaxing by your self. There are a lot of activities to do for kids. I feel like every year this hotel is improving and getting better and better each year, one thing I dislike is that When the serve Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, It is almost the same food everyday. I believe the best food is at the lunch. If you want the taste of some real Jamaican food i like to go to a jerk center or patties and coco bread.& another thing i hate is when your on the road and people are always asking you to buy something.. The service is nice and friendly and always give a a smile. The hotel is pretty clean & worth your money. But if your walking in town i just hate walking down the big hill that it's on. The pools are fantastic and clean. One thing is I believed the room had a kind of moldy smell to it but it late went away. i want to go to here again, But i might go to Rui Ocho rios Next year. But im still thinking about it.

I stayed at Sunset Jamaica Grande for 3 nights 4 days with around 18 of my family members. When i first entered the hotel i couldnt believe my eyes it looked so Beautiful. The staff at the desk was really friendly and patient, as there was so many of us we had to make sure we were sorted in the right rooms. I was wasn’t very pleased with the room I thought that the rooms would have been a bit more up to standards but never the less the bath was really clean and to me that’s what really matters, had a nice view from the balcony could see the big slide and everyone enjoying them selves. Food was good had to try every thing plates were big enough for me to have the Jamaican food on one side and the English on the other Oh yeah just remembered my daughter and her cousin did complain about the burgers and hot dogs wasn’t cooked properly but other than that everything was good. The Cocktails on the other hand was very good except for the strawberry daiquiri and rum, the cocktails just wasn’t giving me the vibe I wanted. Nightlife was really entertaining every night I was out there enjoying my self. This hotel is worth the money trust me.Would I recommend this hotel? Most definitely.

sjg was beautiful.we went as a group ages 23-30 and everyone had a blast.i wasnt 2 pleased with my room,but they moved me.if you are looking for a nice resort with a fun friendly staff,lots of good food, and fun this is tha right resort.all of tha bad reviews most definitly have 2 be one's who are use 2 a silver spoon.if u like 2 have a ball and stay @ a nice resort this is tha spot.you only sleep and shower in tha room anyway and its in tha heart of town,so you dont need 2 pay a taxi.please don t listen 2 negative peps.go have a blast!!!! ill be returning there again real soon

I read a few of the reviews before leaving for my trip and I have to say I was worried. But once I got there I didn't know what all the fuss was about. My family and I were attending a wedding and we had a fabulous time. I was very pleasently surprised. The room was very comfortable and clean. When we first arrived we were put in a twin instead for king size. I asked for a room change which they did very promptly. The food was also very good. I've been on an all inclusive before which only catered for 'English' food to my disappointment but the Jamaica Grande didn't disappoint. They provided local food as well. My only criticism is that there was no seafood (e.g. crab, prawns, ect) on any of the menus. The restaurants were all lovely with my fav being the asian. The bars were great with drinks on constant follow with VERY friendly staff. Actually MOST staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. During our stay there must have been 3 weddings a day. My friend and I were worried that her wedding would feel like a 'convayour-belt-manufactured' day but she felt extra special. Word of advice though....if there's a group of you attending a wedding make sure you're all staying at the Jamaica Grande. They charged $100 per person to come onto the grounds to attend the wedding. My friend wasn't told this when booking. The pools and beaches were lovely with great snorkling near by. Only problem was that there were not enough umbrellas to go round. Overall, it was a lovely family friendly resort with lots to do. Just bring more US$ than any other currancy.

Friends and I visited Jamaica in January of this year. We stayed at the Sunset Jamaica Grande. The overall rating was good. The areas that need improvement would be the rooms. The washrooms need upgrading and the sliding doors are so hard to open. We had a great time and would return again. The food is great the service is excellent and the saff are wonderful and very helpful.
