Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, Ocho Rios

The family stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and had a wonderful holiday. We retuned a week ago and checked out after 1 night because of the indifference of the staff and lack of quality food. We will never return or recommend this hotel to anyone again.

Customer service was great, Monica in the bar (you are a gem) those two fellows that operate the kayak by the beach you made my family so welcome hence my week away from the city was greatly appreciated. It was so refreshing I return for a day in November and will be back soon..Peace

We had a very NICE stay at Sunset Jamaica Grande between January 9 and January 16, 2011. In fact, we were SAD to have to leave, would definitely return again. We were treated well by the staff; the food was very good; the lines may have been a little long for some things but not to an extent we could complain. The rooms were CLEAN and it seemed the grounds of the resort were being cleaned or maintained very well all the while we were there. Can't understand the whiners I read in reviews previous to our trip, but you can't please everyone I guess. The restaurants that you have to make reservations for have AWESOME FOOD, and the buffet is pretty good too, even with some repeats of dishes. Would give it a SOLID 4 OUT OF 5; and the only thing I would suggest would be the choice of decaffeinated coffees or teas since I am supposed to limit caffeine intake. The pool water was a little chilly, but NOT when the sun was out. Yes, the market, town, and beach "salespeople" were a bit on the pushy side too, but just say no and be polite, and you get the same back. We are looking forward to a RETURN to Sunset Jamaica Grande, and just want to advise others that the negative comments are WAY out of line, in our opinion. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF at this hotel for a WONDERFUL STAY. We will return, Mon, soon as we can!

Staff was nice, but not willing to make and accommodations if problem arose. When we arrived to our room they had obviously just painted. The smell was awful! We have a son with Autism and the smell bothered him as well as the rest of the family. We had to visit the front desk 3x to ask for a new room. We even went with out a for most of a day! Then when we did get a new room, They started painting down our hallway the next day! The last day our room didn't even get cleaned! Our phone never worked and we never got any of our wake up calls! Food was very low budget and not good at buffet. Ala carte was better but you could only reserve restaurants a day at a time. We tried when we were there to talk to a manager, but she was never in! I have sent her e-mails to and no response! The only positive thing I would say is that the bartenders did a fabulous job! I would NOT recommend this place!

It is strange to see some bad reviews here. We were nearly put off by them but are glad we went for it. Some people are obviously too fussy and are probably the ones that staff hate to serve (we all know the type) The staff were very good, friendly and interested. The hotel was fabulous, the food in the restaurants great and the holiday was all we wished it would be. The locals are clever at getting money out of you so would sugest that you dont get into conversations when out and about. Difficult because everyone is friendly but there is often a hidden agenda!. We would go back like a shot.

Jamaica Grande has been our hotel of choice for many years. To our knowledge it's the first in the area designed for families. We've had memorable experiences there. However, we feel that they have allowed the other hotels to catch up and possibly surpass their progams and amenities. They still have our business, but we are looking forward to more engaging activities and updated / replaced items (i.e. ping pong balls, beach chairs) on future visits.

The location in Ocho Rios is good, you are within walking distance to plenty of shopping. I will give you a heads up that you will be asked for money by the locals they know every line in the book to get money out of you. As far as the Grande one lady at the desk was very friendly but not the others. A small percentage of the people that work there are friendly but for the most part no. The service overall is very poor, they would not make it here in America. Don't expect a cup of coffee and glass of water when you sit down for breakfast right away. They serve plenty of food, you will not go hungry but much of the food is not real good quality. If you are a person that drinks mixed drinks you will probably like the unlimited drinks. The beach is pretty the view of the water is pretty the pools are nice. The rooms are not much to speak of other that a place to sleep and get ready. If you are not expecting much in a room you will be alright. I spent alot of money to take my family to Jamacia and stay there. If I could do it over I would have stayed at one of the newer places even if it would have cost just a little more.

My husband and I went to the Sunset Jamaica Grand in April 09 we fell in love with Jamaica. we wanted to return in 2010 . we so wanted our son 24 and his girlfriend 24 and our 19 yr old son to experience Jamaica . we decided to return to the sunset Jamaica Grand. we are so glad we did. yes the rooms could use a little work but the staff made us feel like we were family the entertainment crew just out did themselves. every one we encountered made our stay amazing. Hats off to kiki, keneal, Dwayne and so many more. our sons fell in love with jamaica I do not think there is anywhere in Canada or the US where you would pay that little money for a resort and get the" you are one of us feeling." It rained while we were there but it did not dampen our stay, the pool and hot tubs just felt better. If the management of this resort reads the reviews please give the staff mentioned a pat on the back. we are a very stressed society and going to Jamaica We think everyone needs at least once in a lifetime Lucky are we who get to go back. Had a wicked holiday food nice people nice the best thing was the nightlife outside the hotel it is a must I'm returning again nxt April would definately recommend it

Jamaica Grande is AWESOMEEE. I had a blast! Great vacay out of teh colllddd. Coming back next month for MOREE
