Altamont West Hotel, Montego Bay

I will start with the good. 1-Location was great, you can walk just up and down hip strip and find restaurants, bars, clubs, beach, and it's not too far from downtown if you want that experience. 2-It is nice and cheap, which is why I picked this hotel 3-The staff are cool, they aren't the friendliest but they are helpful and have good conversation 4-The breakfast was great. 5-The bathroom was very cute....as far as looks. Now for the bad 1-There is only one actual window in the room, with glass, the rest of them have wooden blinds, which are nice looking but allows bugs to come in and out of your room at their freewill. 2-The lobby is open to the outdoors, no elevator and the person who greets you does not help carry the bags upstairs, she just follows you, talks, watches you struggle and then waits for a tip lol. 3-The pool looked disgusting and unfiltered. 4-The "Bar" was NEVER open and I stayed a full week. 5-There is a loud club right beside the hotel and if you sleep lightly this will be a definite disruption, as they play music allllllll night long. 6-Although the breakfast was delicious, the money they gave you only paid for toast, and orange juice lol, which means if you want real breakfast (i.e. meat) you will have to pay. 7-The water pressure was really low, and it took about 10 minutes for the water in the shower to get hot, and once it was hot it only stayed so for about 2 minutes. 8-Halfway through my stay, ALL electricity cut off for an entire day, and if you have ever been to Jamaica you know that sun does not play and after walking in that heat all day and coming back to no circulating air I almost passed out. And they only took $20 off of the bill for that day, and said sorry. Overall this was an experience, I am not the pickiest person, (in the states I usually stay at the Embassy Suites) however even I was disappointed in this hotel. My roommates and I tried to find a new place to stay, but everything was booked up so we were forced to stay there. I would not stay here again, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who does not normally stay at motels in the states, because to me this is exactly what this hotel is equivalent to.

My boyfriend and i stayed at this hotel and we loved it. The hotel is very nice and clean but the room was small. We got 500 Ja dollars breakfast thats included in Native restaurant and the food there was delicious, we really loved the steam fish. We got upset when we were leaving because the front desk lady said we had to pay an extra $20 US for the extra person and we made the reservation for 2 people. It doesnt say that the price was for one person, and that we had to pay extra. We checked in and the front desk lady never said anything about paying extra and waited when we were leaving to say that, that really upset us, but overall it's an affordable hotel to stay.

Hello To All, This hotel tops my list of places to stay in Mo Bay. I've been visiting Jamaica since 1999. I've had my fill of the all-inclusive traps and ventured out too smaller hotels for personal attention. This hotel is a JEWEL. It's location to everything from the casino to the night club scene is perfect. We walked downtown, to Doctors Cove beach, shopping and dinning it's centrally located. The location is less than 10 minutes from the airport. The staff was soooo acommodating, very nice and customer service was a plus. LIKES Nice size rooms, flat screen tv's phones in all rooms, bathroom clean with towels, a/c cool. Upon arriving we chose a room near the entrance of the hotel. Great location but the noise from the main road was horrible. The next day we requested a room near the back of the hotel and it was perfect. More space, nice location, great beds to fall asleep in. The price is more than AFFORDABLE and the hotel offers free breakfast to it's guest. My friends and I have already booked are hotel accomodations for July 2008. This hotel is worth it's price and then some! Dislikes NONE Best Regards, Candy
