Molino de Agua is gone!
By ,
We visited PV last January and Molino de Agua was torn down and a high rise is going up. Please see scam alert below! However, I have fond memories of the place and the monkey who stole my glasses right off of my face!

Great Experience
By ,
The first time we stayed at Molino de Agua we completely fell in love with the property. You just can't beat it for location, and the uniqueness is outstanding. Anytime we have traveled in the area we make sure we stay a day or two at Molino de Agua!

Beautiful Place
By ,
My husband and I stayed at the Molino de Agua hotel back in 1988 while we were on our honeymoon. We loved it!!! We returned again for a 19 year wedding anniversity and our stay was wonderful. Back in 1988 we got a small room and it was cozy perfect for honeymooners and this time we stayed in a suite named "Alicia" the same as our daughter's name and it was beautiful and clean. The kids enjoyed every moment we were there. They enjoyed the pool and the ocean front. The staff were very friendly and courtious we recommend Molino de Agua hotel. We are defenately are coming back!!

2 days with NO hot water?
By ,
We were very disappointed with our stay at Molino de Agua. We made a reservation for 2 nights. When we arrived our room was not ready. OK, no problem. We told the manager that we would be back around 6-7 pm. When we returned he had given our room away and the only one left was right across from the breakfast area. OK, no problem. We tried to take a shower, but no hot water! Called the desk, but no one was available to help us until morning. OK, no problem. In the morning we called again and were told they would get it fixed as soon as possible. We went out to breakfast and when we returned no water at all! Manager said they were working on the problem. We returned that evening about 6 pm, still no water. Called again, and about 1 hour later we had water but still no hot water. We asked for another room. The desk clerk said she had to call the manager. The manager never called back, according to the desk clerk, and there were no other rooms available at our rate, so she could do nothing without the managers permission. The next morning we tried for the hot water again still nothing and then they turned off the water completely again. We waited another hour. After 2 nights with no hot water we left. We tried to explain to the desk clerk that we felt we were owed some compensation because of the water situation. Again she called the manager who evidently said NO,NO,NO. We stayed, therefore we had to pay the full amount. He refused to speak with us, even on the phone. Very bad experience. I will never stay there again.

It is located in the perfect location with downtown so close. The people were very friendly and made you feel like you were part of thier family visiting. I would not stay anywhere else in PV.

Good location; lousy hotel
By ,
We had a room facing the Bay on the second floor. The view was greate and it is in a great location on the River Quale by the bridge on Ignacio Vallarta. However the toilet leaked at the floor; on the second day they used caulking and it didn't work. On the third day we requested a new room and they moved us up to the third floor (no elevators). The lock didn't work well and after about the fourth day the lock refused to work at all. So they switched locks withh our previous second floor room. The drapes were off the draw rack about 12 inches, never fixed, and really looked tacky. This is a hotel that is about 35 years oold with cottages as well. The room we had had two queen beds and cost $138 a day with a balcony. No phone, tv, or clock. The breakfast buffet was just so-so and cost 95 pesos ($9.50), not worth the money. Several years ago when we were in PV I said I'd like to stay at this place sd there esd a lot of foliage and the cottages looked so cute. It was really a disappointment. They also have a large cage with a Macah, and another cage with one lonely monkey.

It's not for everyone, but I loved it!
By ,
If you're use to amenities like television, or telephone, or carpeting for that matter, then this place is not for you. However, if you want a real Mexican flavor to your vacation, this place can't be beat. We had rented a beachfront (suite?), number 103. It was ground floor, ocean view and just 10 yards from the pool area on the right. It also had a patio with 2 chairs and a small table, overlooking the ocean. First thing I noticed that the walls were made of old brick, and the floor was a mixture of concrete and stone. Room had 2 double beds, on a floor raised about 6 inches (be careful if you get up in the middle of the night!) And the decor was typically hand-crafted Mexican. It rained like crazy each night, but it was fun to open the big wooden doors on the patio wall and just watch the monsoon and lightning and thunder on the ocean (August is in the heart of the rainy season). Sitting on the patio one afternoon, one of the waiters who service the beach area walked over to empty an ash tray, and asked if we needed anything. Well, that lead to frozen margaritas, and a complete lunch served on our patio (including a table!) Location is superb. You can walk to the Rio Cuale island where you'll find Oscar's Restaurant (very good, and have the Mexican coffee after dinner at night, it's a real tableside show! Fire and all!), or just up the island is The River Cafe and also The Bistro (closed in August, but re-opens in October.) Good coffee in the morning can be had next door to Molino heading down the beach 50 feet, in the first condo complex. Cinnamon flavored and just right. Good breakfast too, $10.00 for two). Just outside the lobbie area, across the street is a great place to buy Mexican sandals, handmade for about 20 bucks or so. And down a block or two from that is Mariachi Loco, a fun place if you enjoy that type of music. The night we were there, there was a $5.00 cover charge, but a 12 piece band was playing and they weree great. We only had drinks but they do serve food as well. I wouldn't hesitate staying at this hotel again, but I would tell my friends what to expect. (like older people with canes or walkers would have a tough time walking the grounds). I imagine this place 50 years ago was considered amazing, and it still is, but for different reasons. If you look carefully in the trees by the river, they're filled with birds and we even saw 2 four foot iguanas.

Oasis in the City
By ,
The Molina de Agua is an oasis in the busy city of Puerto Vallarta. The location is unbeatable. It's right smack in "old town" with it's funky shops, restaurants, cobblestone streets and activity. It's located on the most popular beach in town. You can easily catch a bus or taxi or even walk anywhere you want to go, especially to the popular Malecon and the Plaza. The property is beautiful. The trees at this hotel are very old enormous tropical trees. There is a nice pool and restaurant. Most of the rooms are little bungalow or apartment type rooms, instead of the cold impersonal typical hotel rooms. And the monkey and parrots will chat with you as you wander through the curving sidewalks past the bungalows. This is easily the most unusual, friendly, and conveniently located hotel in Puerto Vallarta.
