Terrible overall experience

I recently stayed at the Yellowknife In, in Yellowknife North West Territories, Canada.
I feel that the location was excellent, on top of the largest shopping mall in the NWT as well as in the very center of the city of Yellowknife.
The service however is another story.
I felt that I had more knowledge than the people I was dealing with at the front desk, and when they asked for assistance from the GM, he said just do whatever it takes to make it right as he was a new manager and didn't know the operation well enough at that time.
I appreciate his will to make it right, but he seemed just in a hurry to end the conversation and escape without hearing my comments or answering my questions.
The staff there seemed very inexperienced and not even interested in customer service and the rooms that I was shown were run down and not maintained.
There was paint chipped off the wall and structural damage , and the carpets were stained and the rooms smelled foul.
The explaination I recieved from the maintenance worker on duty was that the building is an old building and there is nothing they can do about it.
To add to my distress there was no parking, the front desk personel forgot to give me a wake up call and there were drunk people passed out in the lobby while the security guard present sat and ate chips while listening to an mp3 player.
The Yellowknife Inn is a great location , but it is definately not worth the price of the room rates.
I have recieved much better service and a cleaner environment from small drive in motels. I was surprised that staying at a large hotel carrying the capital city's name and boasting to be a full service, customer friendly hotel could turn out to be such a let down.
I would reccommend that anyone planning to stay at the Yellowknife Inn, ask the staff to see the rooms prior to checking in.
