One to avoid

This used to be a first rate Wandlyn Motel. It is still architecturally and structurally appealing in a prime location but is in badly-deterioriated condition. The business is capitalizing on its location just inside the US border but the standard at which it is being operated is not acceptable in Canada in the 21st century. We agreed reluctantly to stay there on a busy weekend after refusing sub-standard, out-of-date accommodations in Calais, but there are usually much better rooms to be had nearby, and New Brunswick motel/hotel standards in general are quite high. We were asked for $89 for a smoke-free room, but this was reduced to $76. The room was smoke-free but not entirely odor free. After we moved in, we noticed light shining through breaks in the lined drapes. When we opened the drapes, we found thick mold on the window frame and an opening window sealed shut. The bed looked all right externally, but in the morning when we removed the pillow slips, we found dirty pillow covers under them and badly stained pillows inside those. Nothing in the place was as crisp and fresh as it should have been. The owners/employees are very friendly and cooperative, but this cannot excuse the conditions described.
