one of the more dirty hotels
By ,
the theme rooms are nice, they seem to be helpful at front mainly cause they want all the rooms filled for maximum profit so they will give discounts, but the cleaning is horrible, found cigarette butts under bed, tables were not cleaned just dusted with dry cloth sheets were previously used, the jacuzzi seemed to be quickly wiped down with windex. i have been a cleaner for 10 years worked in hotels and i have seen this kinda work, they dont use proper cleaners of vacume under beds or coners just sad cause if it was clean would be a nice place to stay

We did not get our fantasy at all.
By ,
We had purchased tickets for Celine Dion a year in advance and planned on staying at the Fantasyland Hotel. Ended up booking rooms for two nights a couple of months in advance. We advised the reservation clerk we would be arriving late in the evening and were assured the room reservation was guaranteed. Upon arriving at the hotel 11:30 PM we were pretty much left in the dark for 20 minutes as to the status of our room. We were then advised they had given away our room(Roman) and asked if the only room left being a truck room was acceptable. Upon saying no they did offer ir for free, so went up to it, but was not suitable for my wife and myself to sleep in the back of a truck on a small double size mattress. Back to the front desk, again very poor service. Told them they could buy us a room somewhere else and they did accomodate. We never did receive an explanation as to why our guaranteed reservation, was not honoured. We did cancel for the second night. As we were leaving there were 6 ladies also from Calgary, experiencing the same situation. All 6 of them were also offered the truck room. When we checked out of the hotel paid for by Fantasyland, we were advised there was another couple there as well. That makes at least 10 people with reservations that showed up and did not get a room. In visiting another hotel close to the Mall, they said Fantasy does over book all of the time up to 30 %. So must be a matter of first come. A week later I called back to the reservation line and was advised that yes, if you do not show up you are charged for your room. In our case it was $ 350.00 a night. Called again to speak with the Front End Manager, whom of course never answers the phone and never did call back. What is wrong with a guaranteed reservation being charged to your credit card at time of reservation, and then if you dont show or cancel within allowed time frame, you likley have already received your invoice form CC company. If anyone reads this, that were charged for not showing up, recommend you try and get a refund. I know that the hotel is always 100 % full from conversation with others. It is quite the scam they have going on, so of course they have no problem paying for your room at other hotels, when they are caught in that situation. Back to the Truck Room, lilkey an adventure if you and your little brother are staying in there. Very narrow room, maybe 4 feet between the bed and the wall. Flashing traffic lights, could not see how to turn them off. There is a bathroom, then a hot tub, then a truck and the room is full. We were much more comfortable at the alternative provided that night, but then it is 1 PM and more driving around the city to get there. There was one young lady at the front desk, whom was nice and seemed as confused as we were as to what the Heck was going on. She was new. She should find a new job. She does not belong there. All of the others behind the desk, belong there. It is likely the best job they will ever get. They had the experience of telling you there is nothing we can do for you. In the lobby of the hotel there is a bar, playing loud music. Skateboarders, coming and going. Quite a reception. Was reading it has been open since 1986. Took me twenty two years to get there. Will obviously never go again.

Overpriced convenience
By ,
Check in at 4 o'clock is late to use 2 complimentary attraction tickets. Additional tickets to Waterpark are $16.00 ea( only if you ask ). Family pass to Waterpark to available public is 94.00 for family of four. Convenience of immediate accesss to mall is not worth the extra $100.00 for a room of similar standard. Another hotel is in mall. Positives- they will hold your luggage free of charge for the day after you check-out at 11:00.

Comfortable but probably won't go back
By ,
The room was clean. The jacuzzi was great. We even made a friend with a member of the housekeeping staff. But, the fantasyland hotel is nothing but a gimmick. Like another reviewer said, it's a has been. The little details of paint work and bad installations of fixtures got on my nerves, but maybe that's just me. The brass rails and light fixtures did look cheap. On one evening of our stay, there were about 3-4 people in the room next door. They were playing loud music and being generally obnoxious. My husband called down to the front desk to complain and even went down there to talk to the night manager. The guy basically said it's not their problem. But it definitely was their problem the next day when they found that the carpet in the room was soaked. They apparently had a little pool party in their room. Our housekeeping friend told us that they couldn't sell the room for at least a week. We told the day manager about what happened. He wasn't too happy about what we had to say. For just a special overnight stay, it could be great. Hopefully nothing happens that you have to call down to the desk in the middle of the night.

Can't wait to go back
By ,
My boyfriend and I spent a night in a western room. the room was clean, it had 2 bunk beds and a queen or double. There was a great hot tub in the room and the bathroom was big with an outside basin too. Basically it had everything we needed.eg tv, iron, hairdryer, coffee, room service. I would stay here again, in fact I plan too when I return next month. It's in the mall too, what could be better?

Good only for the Theme Room
By ,
The theme room (Igloo) was fantastic. The kids loved it and it was a great setup for a family with bunk beds for the kids, the whirlpool and easy access to the mall. Unfortunately the service was poor and we couldn't make it to the waterpark which was supposed to be a highlight of our stay. We waited and received no acknowledgement at check-in. We had to hunt down a luggage cart ourselves, and I struggled with that and two small children while my husband parked the car. I got trapped with the cart and kids in the self-revolving door for several minutes while nobody noticed or offered to help. The only time we received service was when a bellhop noticed us nearing the elevator with a loaded cart (time to earn a tip I guess he figured - but he didn't get one). The most hospitible employees in the entire hotel were the maids...all smiles and very friendly. The hotel was clean, but not as clean as it should be for the price. We noticed empty dishes in the hallway put out by guests for pick-up - dishes that remained there for over 6 hours before being retreived by staff. The beds were very comfortable, and the temperature was easy to adjust. Unfortunately the walls were thin as we had to listen to 45 minutes of the neighbours "adult" movies while trying to fall asleep (thank God the kids crashed before that!). We were supposed to get two free breakfasts with our hotel stay, but were given a coupon for one free "continental" breakfast We at least got a credit for the price of two full breakfasts when we inquired. All in all I'm not exactly sure what to make of this place. The theme room was very nice but the hotel in general didn't live up to my expectations at all. I would only come back again - for a theme room and when on sale, not expecting to be waited on or pampered in any way.
