Let the hotel guest beware.
Picked this place because it was close to my home. Needed a place to beat the heat. This wasn't it. First, if you book through a hotel discount site, the room you will be getting is SMALL. I am not exaggerating. There was barely enough room for a single full bed which was pushed against the wall. This room was for 2 people. We upgraded to a room with two queen sized beds for an additional $20 per night. When I spoke to the woman at the front desk about how unacceptable the original room was, she made the snide comment, "That's what you get through Priceline" Maybe so, but nowhere on the entire Hotel Deca website are you given any warning that your room (to use the term loosely) would be furnished with only a full-sized mattress.
The upgraded room was better but the air conditioning was WEAK. You can adjust the thermostat to as low as 60 degrees but it failed to cool the room down to an acceptable level. When the sun went down, we had to open the windows to get enough cool air in.
The room was also not very clean. There were noticeable cobwebs dangling from the ceiling on several different spots in the room and the air vent or duct in the bathroom was filthy. It probably hadn't been cleaned in months.
The walls of the hotel seem paper thin. At 12 midnight, it sounded like people who were waiting for the elevators were waiting in our room because the sound of their voices traveled right through the walls.
The TV looked nice but the picture was terrible. The TV was a 32 inch LG LCD. However, all the channels were still analog. Many stations like TBS and USA had a wavy pattern running through the entire screen during the entire show. It was annoying and a waste of a perfectly good hi def TV.
If you read anywhere that parking is free - Do Not Believe It. There is a daily charge to park in the lot.
The closet in the upgraded room was a walk-in. However, there was only the tiniest 3 drawer dresser made of plastic to put all your clothes that couldn't be hung. This "dresser" was about the size of what most people would call a night stand.
As for the lounge called The District. It was not very busy when we went in for a drink yet the service was slow. With three people working the bar, one would think that the service would be better.
The bar menu was innovative but the food was too expensive for what you got. For example, the lamb and feta sliders cost $12. What we got were 3 small ground lamb and feta sandwiches. They were about the size of a 50 cent piece. These are not the size of the sliders you normally see at places like Red Robin or Ruby's. They are small and, while they were tasty, not worth $4.00 a sandwich.
We also ordered the scallops with polenta. This costs $7.00. Rather than receiving scallops, we were given shrimp (maybe 5 shrimp total on the plate). We pointed out to the server that we had ordered scallops and not shrimp. It was only then that we were told that they didn't have scallops. The shrimp actually tasted just fine but the polenta was terrible. It had a raw corn flavor and a mealy texture because it
was not properly cooked.
We ordered the crab cakes as well. The cost was $9.00 for three crab cakes. While the crab cakes were OK (deep fried with a panko crust), the salad served as a garnish or accompaniment to the cakes was terrible. The dressing was harsh. The acid flavor overpowered everything. It wasn't as though a nice balsamic was used. Rather it tasted almost as if someone used a cheap red-wine vinegar and then forgot to add the extra virgin olive oil to mellow it out. I am not kidding when I say the dressing was awful.
My final comment is regarding the elevators. They are slow. When we were trying to check out, we must have waited almost 10 minutes for the car to arrive. It then proceeded to stop at every single floor (15 -1) was packed to capacity.
Just be forewarned - this hotel is not that great!!
