Call first
By fai, 5/25/09
Initial impressions: lobby is very well kept up. Same with the bedroom. Love the decorating. In fact, the look of the bedroom was my favorite out of all the hotels i've been in, including Crowne Plaza, the Hyatt Regency, and Planet Hollywood. The bathroom was adorable. I really liked it. Lots of hot water. And if you need to do something at the coliseum, you can't beat the location, you really can't. So those were the ups. The downs: water pressure was meh. Shower head is too low for tall people. We couldn't eat the free breakfast because you were only allowed to have it in a tiny room that can fit 50 people tops, and there were at least 25 waiting in line and all the tables were taken; if you can only eat inside the tiny room, what are you supposed to do, eat standing up? That's thoughtless. The room was incredibly hot--most likely due to the crowd--and quite loud--same reason--and we had no chance of enjoying breakfast so we took off. Even then, the minuses were minor and outweighed by the pluses, except for one hugely overriding fact: our room keys didn't work. We stayed in the hotel for one night, saturday over sunday, and were given a grand total of 8 room keys. None of them worked. Think about how often you go in and out of your hotel room. Going out to eat, going to the pool, going to sightsee, going to the backstore. You come back, you schlep your stuff and your tired self up to the 8th floor, you try your door--and it doesn't work. Try the key again. Nope. Try again. Nope. PUll the door towards you and try. Nope. Push the door away and try. Nope. Try putting the card in fast. Nope. Try putting it in slowly. Nope. Try using the other key (cause you get two) and go through the same shpiel all over again. Still not working. So you schlep your tired self and all your stuff back down to the first floor and the unsympathetic front desk person gives you another 2 keys to try. 8 floors. Schlep schlep schlep. Still doesn't work. In the end we had to be let into our own room by, variously, the manager, maintenance, and housecleaning staff. In one overnight stay we were given 8 different keys and none of them ever worked. We asked about another room, staff said all the rooms were having the same problem. And that was the end of the discussion. Here's the final word on the place: if you see a good deal, CALL AND ASK IF THE ROOM KEYS ARE WORKING. Just one quick call. If they are, then go for it.

Nothing special, but good enough
By E.J.I, 2/6/09
I stayed at this hotel while doing training at Fort Monroe. My room was large enough (two double beds) and clean. The bathroom was small, but the tub was large and the shower had excellent pressure. It was also very nicely decorated. Despite the notice to conserve water, fresh towels were stocked everyday. The bed linens were changed everyday and they were so comfortable. Problems: Indoor pool was absolutely too cold to swim. Construction noise at 9pm, however they ceased after one phone call. Front desk people were somewhat rude and didn't give out all the info. Free Breakfast was okay. Ice machines are not located on every floor.

Miscommunication!
By Nakisa, 6/23/08
Customer Service,Professionalism and Satisfaction are very important to me. First, the Swimming Pool hours were posted as Weekedends, 9am-10pm. My family and another family (we all had kids) arrived promptly at 9am. The pool doors were locked! After several minutes, and watching other families attempt to get in, I inqured at the Front Desk and was told that the Maintainence Man was working on something else and that he could not leave that to open the pool doors. Apparently, there was only one Mechanic on duty! Luckily a guest discovered an unlocked door! 45 minutes later the Mechanic arrived, and asked us "how did we get in, the pool was not working, and that we had to leave and it would re-open later" (luckily we were drying off). There was no sign posted at all! Lastly, I received a $999.00 bill for a $99.00 room! I was told that it was resolved and it wasn't. Until I followed up, after monitoring my Credit Card charges, speaking to my bank and following up with the hotel!!!

We stay at this location because it is close to my daughters university. They do not offer the same ammenities as surrounding establishments. In addition, I could not use my laptop in the room.

" JULY 2007 ."
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/26/07
Well upon my boy friend and I checking in there was a small problem with the reservation he made... Even having Hilton Honors didnt seem to make a difference they had sold the room he reserved. and now we would have to settle for a SMOKING ROOM. with a NEW BABY, MY ALLERGIES andHIM NOT USE TO THE SMOKE SMELL liking the smell, you can see where this was going. Up grade to a suite. LOL it was a fairly decent room but this place has some age on it. I was ok with the room until it came time to clean it and the staff show up at the end of the day didnt change the sheets (WELL DIDNT HAVE ANY MORE CLEAN SHEETS}. And seemed reluctant in wanting to clean any portion of the room. ( vacum, replace items that simply come with the room { everything} etc. Then to top it off I went to wash out my babies soiled items and there soap machine took my money and no one ever came to replace my coins nor offer me soap or anything in place of the lost items. No in the future he may stay again but I most cetainly wont and wouldnt consider staying here again on my own, as for the breakfast I went to the waffle house seems the times that are given for the breakfast are a little off by 30 to 45 mins. and we stayed from Tues to Friday no change. So i take it they didnt have enough food or the staff didnt feel like waiting around.

Hampton Clarion
I liked the style and decor of my suite. It was bright and clean. The indoor pool needed to be cleaned, but other than that i enjoyed my stay.

great experience
By Sherry, 6/27/06
Our experience was great. No real problem. We were there over a very busy weekend, but everyone was very courteous and helpful. I would stay again. It was a very hot and humid weekend and the room was very comfortable, I want my room really cool and it was just the way I like it.

I will stay again!
By Move forward, 4/19/06
I was a little cautious because of the other reviews, but figured they were so long ago, things had to be better. I was right, the cost was medium and the experience was above average. I did not experience any of the service or cleanliness issues people had in the past. Every thing was better than expected.

if service will change to will consider returning.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/30/05
I staryed in your hotel (clarion) on May 27 thru 29th. I was my first choose after checking in and out of the Econ Lounge before entering the room. I thought the Clarion will be more caring. On Saturday night early morning I experience a loud knocking noise in the air vent, so I turned it off call the front desk and was told security will be up (2:00am)never came. The noise stop than return around 5:00am, then again at 7:00am I was told the next shift was coming on . Some one finally came around 7:40am. By then the noise has stop. I had no air the whole night. Not once did mgmt or the front desk called to see if they could do anything for me. I felt it was very unconsider of mgmt.(Rm. 243). I or my mother who is 80yrs old. was unable to sleep. Thank you, B. Lane
