worst wedding ever!!
By heather, 2/18/10
I had my wedding there and I must say there were more things wrong with the place then I could list. So I will mention only the big problems. We had a contract for the wedding to be there, I told them the amount of people that I expected, well less people showed up and they still ran out of food and the father of the groom along with 10 others ate chicken fingers and French fries at my wedding! Worst place ever!!!

Peaceful Place.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/24/09
My family goes every year at the last week in July, first week in August. We go from Sunday to Friday. What's good about this place is the private beach. It is a very peaceful place with nothing to do but relax in the sun on the beach or by the pool. The hotel rooms are just ok. I feel it's has gotten very expensive and not worth the money. They have a pub on the beach where you can eat and also a restaurant which doesn't have much to offer on the menu. If you want some good food go to the stingray a couple miles down the road.

Nightmare experience
Arrived at 1 in the morning. No room number on doors, full size uncomfortable beds, wallpaper peeling, towels dirty and dingy, shower didn't work, soap holder falling off the wall, toilet couldn't be flushed, smelled like smoke even though it was non-smoking, yogurts in continental breakfast (if you could even call it that) 5 days outdated. Received a full refund but took 9 days of constant calling to get someone to call back. Would have been better off sleeping in the car!

Don't Do It!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/08
This 'resort' is nothing of a resort. If we didn't have 3 children and it wasn't so late, we would have left! Dirty, was not vacuumed, dead bugs squashed on walls, cobwebs hanging from ceiling, shower didn't work, rug was torn up, blood like stain on side of bed, toilet hanging off of wall, large patched hole in tile on side of tub, cigarette butts EVERYWHERE outside, beach was full of trash and even a half full green trashbag, no battery in smoke detector, nasty slime in bottom of refrigerator, wallpaper hanging off, and the security latch on the door was missing! I actually sprayed bug spray on my children, myself and sheets before going to bed in fear of bedbugs. Continental breakfast was a joke. Moldy fruit, bread. Was afraid to eat in the disgusting and dirty loung that smelled of stale cigarette butts. All this for a $143.00 night!!! We should have slept in the car!! Don't EVER stop here!! Keep driving!! I was so disgusted I even took pictures in hopes to get our money back. Not happening. Manager wouldn't even speak to us! Don't make the same mistake!!!!!!!!!!! They don't even deserve a one star. ZERO is more like it!

we go every year
By The tent crowd, 5/26/08
Me and my family go every year on memorial weekend (mostly family friends), we come back every year! It's not the nicest hotel, and the prices should be lowered, but there's just somthing about it that makes you want to come back.

Don't be fooled by the word "resort"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/6/07
We often visit Virginia's Eastern Shore to watch bird migrations. Finding a good hotel on the Eastern Shore is a challenge. During our recent stay at the Sunset Beach Resort, we found that the rooms are not fancy, but rather similar to those of a Motel 6 or Econo Lodge. The cable for the cable television looked like it had been installed by the Three Stooges. The shower head sprayed as much water rearward as foreword. Paint was peeling from the bathroom door frame. The room heater worked very well. The hotel does have a small private beach. The two large trash containers there were overflowing with garbage, with even more refuse scattered on the beach. The free continental breakfast was very good in both selection and food quality. However, the restaurant area was closed, and we were instructed to enjoy our breakfast in the lounge area. The lounge is a smoking area, and there were already three very active smokers there. We wound up eating in the lobby. Still, we had a clean room with comfortable beds. This is an acceptable place if staying one or two nights. For longer stays, I suggest looking into the brand new cabins at nearby Kiptopeke State Park.

Inexpensive Honeymoon Spot
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/19/07
This is a great place if you want to have a romantic getaway/honeymoon and don't have alot of money to spare. The private beach is excellent. The only problem that we found is the restaurant was never open when we wanted something. They have set times for eating. The Pub's food was good but kind of expensive. However, there are several restaurants right down the street; just as long as you like sandwiches or seafood. Overall, the stay was great. The private beach is what made the stay memoriable.

Front desk staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/07
I have stayed at this hotel several times and have never run into such a rude employee as today, August 3rd, very terse manner and very impatient when you asked her to repeat what she just said, I would suggest better training in how to speak English or replace her on the phone.

OK Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/07
Most of the reviews on here are from 2-3 years ago. All the parking lot complaints for example are out of date because it looks like it has recently been resurfaced. The room we had was clean and with none of the problems noted that others have mentioned (no bugs, no fish smell, etc). It is not the Waldorf-Astoria, but it was satisfactory. The A/C worked well and kept us cool on a very hot muggy night. The bed was comfortable. The only major complaint was none of the ice machines worked worth a darn. I got literally 1 cube out of 1 and 2 cubes out of the other one. That was it. So if the ice machines get fixed, I would say it would be a solid average place. I am staying there again this weekend so I will write another review.
