Fantastic time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/02/10
The resort reminds of something I would have to travel to in Europe to enjoy the same amenities. Everyone was very nice and especially the gentleman driving the sleigh. He was very friendly, courteous and made the whole ride very enjoyable. Nice job to all the staff. Tyler Blackmar, Johnston, R.I.

Not Worth The Trip
By B, 01/04/09
The service at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort is terrible and the resort itself is in major need of renovation. Additionally, any alleged discounts are nothing more than a scam. The staff is defensive about rather than committed to addressing the resort's shortcomings. The resort's shortcomings are many a few examples are as follows: the railing on the exterior of the resort is split, the front steps are crumbling and slate is missing, the rooms have bug and rodent repellent devices in very visible spaces, the bedding smells, depending on what room your in you will experience sewage odors (which the resort staff is well aware of.), the heating system is non adjustable. As for the staff they are curt, defensive and non responsive. The staff at a Super 8 motel is friendlier and more accommodating. Any discount offered is a sham. The resort offered a discount rate that was supposed to include one free dinner and free breakfast on each day. However they then charge a facilities fee which covers among other things breakfast and dinner. So you do not receive the benefit alleged in the discount price. In addition, the facilities fee was supposed to include access to all resort facilities. However, when you arrive the staff will inform you that certain things cost extra such as sleigh rides. In short you feel as if you've been ripped off by deceptive advertising. Perhaps the local department of consumer affairs will be helpful in investigating such deceptive advertising scams. In short, I'd recommend staying anywhere but this establishment. I left frustrated, angry, and generally felt ripped off.

Almost ruined a vacation.
By ThatstheTicket, 10/16/08
2nd time posting this as it has mysteriously disappeared. The cold and heartless folks at the Mountain Top Inn did all they could to place a dark cloud on an otherwise wonderful week-long vacation through Vermont. My girlfriend and I had booked a horseback riding session and unfortunately found ourselves lost en route to this rather "out of the way" location that runs down some unpaved roads. After arriving 10 minutes late, we were told we would be charged for the session and were given absolutely no opportunities for compromise by the staff. Best yet, there was no cancellation policy mentioned over the phone or posted at the stables. When I returned home, not only had they kept their promise to charge my card, but they decided to charge roughly double the price. What kind of business is this? Thankfully, it dawns on me that even if we had arrived on time, it is quite clear the level of service we would have received from these people who see out-of-towners as nothing but numbers on paper. Please avoid this ridiculous establishment and enjoy Vermont properly...the other people and businesses we encountered were warm and welcoming beyond expectation.

Amazing Trip!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/22/07
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Mountain Top Inn for an early romantic Christmas gift to each other during the third week of December. We had a wonderful, great time. Its hard to imagine a trip that would have been more relaxing, more full of creature comforts and more beautiful. We can't recommend the inn enough and look forward to going back, The highlights might have been the setting, amenities and service. The trip really started out on the right foot when we arrived late on Thursday evening. We had been delayed because of snow storms and when we arrived around 10:00 PM, the tavern had closed for the evening. Still, the front desk brought us a turkey sandwich spread with all the fixings, cookies and beer! Plus, we found out on Sunday that they didn't charge us for that late night snack. Exceptional. Our Room: Since there was a leak in the roof of our cottage, we were upgraded in advance to Mami's Retreat in the lodge. Fantastic! Two room suite with two flat screen TVs, great furniture including leather couch, huge queen size bed, six headed-shower, whirlpool tub, fridge, sink, duel sided fireplace and more. Amazing. Highlights: -Activities galore. While we chose to do nothing, there was Cross Country Skiing, Dog Sled Rides (!), Snowmobile, Sleigh Rides, Snow Shoeing, Board Games, a Tavern, and many more. -The Food! Aside from the formal dining room, there was a great selection from the tavern menu. We ate three meals there and each time was great. Plus, free breakfast ever morning. -The Wine! When your stranded 11 miles from Rutland, its nice to have access to a very, solid selection.Plus, delicious beer on tap. -The Lodge! Great building. Comfy, clean and nice. A good set up. Our room was quite cozy. -Friendly Staff! Everyone was truly on the ball. Lots of people working hard. One of the highlights was when the power went out on Sunday (a bad, bad storm rolled though), the front desk lady walked around and announced there would be soup and sandwiches in the tavern shortly. Nice. Low Lights: -Not the least expensive vacation place, but worth the money. Easy to rack up quite the cost because you can charge virtually everything to your room. Still, was cheaper than we imagined.

Don't go here!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/16/06
A nice location....good no doubt for horses nordic skiing and weddings. However....we booked our specific room by internet and were given a confirmation. When we arrived the room had gone to someone else and we received a terribly decorated replacement with uncomfortable matresses and poor ventilation. The food was under par for a supposedly four star resort and overpriced...a special beef stroganoff ( with no sour cream sauce detectable ) for $35! The main restaurant was closed one night for a wedding. The only compensation is a good winelist. How this made Conde Nast I do not know.

They will overcharge you
By ruth, 05/21/06
They overcharged us even though we spent our last night with them detailing the bill.... seven months later they after they had charged someone else for our bill they then recharged us and had the audacity to overcharge us. Their excuse is that their acct'g system can not detail a bill.... The setting is fabulous and the riding instructor is great, but be prepared for them to try and overcharge you. Someone else had told us about this and we didnt' believe it at the time.
