Villa Deluxe Slum
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/09
My family and I stayed at Villa Deluxe Slum during the first part of July. Upon arrival, we could see the buildings were beginning to show age, but seemed ok, we checked in and Jonathan was very friendly and check in was smooth. We had made our resevations using the offical website and offical 1-800 number(Jonathan was the person who took our reservation). When we entered the room 2216, we just unloaded our luggage and left to purchase food and other beach items, and eat dinner out. When my husband and I returned, we tried to use the toilet, it would not flush. We called the manager(it was after 5PM and the night manager with bleached blonde hair came to room, looked at the toilet, told my husband to turn the water off and that someone would come at 0730 to fix it. My husband asked if there was a plunger available, and she stated no. We told her we needed another room with a working toilet and she stated that there were no other rooms(this was on a Tuesday and the parking lots had many empty spaces). She even stated that she only represented the private owned condos not those leased out by the front desk. We were livid! We paid $119.00 plus 15% taxes, and a booking fee of $16.00 for a total of$153.09 and NO working toilet. At 2300, my husband made a trip to Walmart to purchase a plunger and a bucket, items that should have been easily obtained by any staff member that cared. He came back and plunged and viola, a functioning toilet. Now, for the condition of the rooms. The bedroom was ok, not great but not awful. The bathroom(not including the toilet) was dirty, sand on the floors with most accumulated in the corners, short hair from private areas stuck to the wall, shower curtain was cute with seashells, but when I stepped in the shower/tub unit and closed the curtain, black mold was growing in the folds that faced the tub. The bottom of the curtain was rolled up and had mold growing in the rolls. I really hope it was mold and not anything else. Showers were very short and we hugged the shower wall side to avoid touching the shower curtain. The wall surrounding the sink had been painted and then the wall paper was pulled off. The living room contained 2 office chairs for sitting and a futon. The chairs were clean but uncomfortable, the futon was dirty and very stained. The dining table was very rickety, and only had two straight back chairs. The refrigerater was painted black, and the orignal white was still visible. The coffeemaker(at least we had one in our room) worked, but the heating surface was solid circle of rust. I don't think this was caused by salt water. The kitchen was barely modestly furnished. We had two pans and no skillet, the largest pan was also completely rusted on the cooking surface and the lids did not fit any of the pans. The eating utensils had to be washed, dried egg on them. I washed the cups only. We did buy disposable plates so I can't comment on the plates. We only had one trash bag(in the trash can), a cheap, I repeat cheap roll of paper towels, and one roll of John Wayne toilet paper. The towels were ok, but no wash clothes, and I am not so sure that I would have used them if they were available. The carpet was soiled and in need of a thorough cleaning with a vacuum and a shampooer.
My husband and I spoke to Ellie, and she stated VDS was under new management. She did invite us to stay with them again. Our answer was and will always be "No!" Ellie was very professional and seemed to care about how we felt, while the night manager seemed to have another agenda. We did leave the plunger and the bucket as a gift for the night manager, that way when anyone else had toilet problems, a plunger and bucket would be available and they would not have to go all night without a working toilet.
The hallway carpet was dirty, old and stretched out. The hallway also smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Missing stucco revealed rusted vertical support beams, beach ok
