Pearl South Padre, South Padre Island

My husband and our four year old son stayed here just this past week (April 22-25) and really enjoyed our stay. The room (we rented the basic 440 square ft. king sweet) was clean and comfortable and equiped as advertised. The bed was a little soft for me with the pillow top mattress, but my husband loved it! The staff was also very friendly and curtious. The pool area was very nice and clean. My son really enjoyed the kiddie pool with frog slide! They also had the bar swim up pool that was heated, very nice! My only complaint here was that by 3pm or so, the sun begins to be blocked by the towers of the Sapphire condo and it can be a bit chilly in April to swim then. The beach access was also very easy, just a small walk down to the ocean! The food was ok, nothing supper spectacular, but good none the less. Their prices were a bit high though, especially for drinks. A well whisky and coke and house margarita was $14, YIKES! All in all, we had a wonderful time and will be booking future trips to S. Padre at the Pearl!

I'm not one to generally trash hotels (even if my experience isn't perfect. I never expect that.) But, aside from the nasty rooms with dirty linens and cigarette butts and trash all over the place, I was locked out of my 9th floor room for about an hour. No big deal, a couple of trips down the stairwell (wouldn't advise that without some sort of oxygen filter and rubber boots) to get my key re-energized and back up to the 9th only to find I'm still locked out. The maintenance gentleman (a very nice gentleman, by the way) made his way up to the room to try his key with no luck. Ten minutes later he brings up his stethoscope. Still no luck. Then, ten minutes later he brings up the big-boy tools, rips off the door knob and, an hour later, I'm in. Fifteen minutes later, the new entry pad is fixed and we're back in business. I can live with all of that. An inconvenience, but, nonetheless, I'm in my room. Now, to call and ask for an hour and a half extension of my check-out time, you'd have thought I was asking them for the smallest child's left kidney. Holy cow, pretty much an eff-you to me. No apology, no phoney commiseration, just a "we've got your money, you're leaving, too bad for you" attitude. Highly NOT recommended.

*** This is the only review I have ever left for any hotel or restaurant in my life. My wife and I take several trip every year and have never experienced anything close to our stay at the Pearl*** My family decided to head out for Thanksgiving so we booked a room for 3 nights at the Pearl beginning Thanksgiving day. Our room contained (2) full size beds and included breakfast vouchers for 2 each morning The first night I woke up and I saw several roaches crawling around the room and bathroom. I decided not to wake my wife and daughter up but headed downstairs early in the morning to switch rooms. The staff was apologetic and offered to upgrade our room to a small suite with a king size bed and sleeper sofa. Later that afternoon I pulled the covers back to lay down and noticed blood on the sheets. It wasn't a lot of blood (about the size of a quarter - it wasn't fresh as you could tell the sheets had been washed) but was disgusting. After speaking to the manager, staff was sent up to change the bedding immediately and we were given a free night at the hotel. The next morning my wife and daughter went to eat at the Beachside Bar & Grille (I was under the weather) and were accused of stealing our breakfast the previous day. My wife was told that we had to have taken our voucher and not paid our tab for our daughters breakfast as the voucher only covered two meals and the signed receipt was missing. My wife (after calling me) told them we had our copy of the receipt and that there was some kind of mistake. The staff refused to believe her. The next morning when our bill arrived under our door, the breakfast for our first morning was billed to our room with the tip I left. We took the bill downstairs and showed the staff that accused my wife at the Beachside Bar & Grille and she apologized and summoned the manager. We were then given a free breakfast for our troubles. I never asked for any upgrades or free nights or meals but they were given immediately when a problem came up. We would have much rather paid for what we booked and had a great stay. Pros: Nice beach Good location Cons: Blood Bugs Staff attitudes Severely outdated rooms (wall thermostat and phone didn't even work) Pool cleanliness My wife and I did look for reviews on this property and did find many negative ones on the web prior to booking. We only booked at the Pearl because a college basketball tournament completely filled the Hilton Garden on the island. Shame on us!

After driving from San Antonio (5 hours) with my 2 kids (2 yold and 6 yold), the people at the front desk told me nicely that I didn't reserve....I called my wife and she gave them all informations reservations numbers....then they realized that a couple of websites was overbooking their hotels....I didnt care! I'm here with my kids and we want to go to the beach....so I asked nicely to talk to the manager...but some old blond lady showed up being very rude....nobody not even her didn't take responsibilities...they didn't even proposed to relocated me with my 2 babies!!! One young hostess at th.e front desk told me that there were 46 families in the same situation....like that was going to change my mood!!!! Well I did backpacking all over the states for 3 years and it's my worst experience!!!! they don't even know what customer service mean...

I have never stayed in a worse hotel and I have traveled extensively since the 1960's...rooms were in poor repair, food was awful, the charges were beyond understanding...they charge $50.00 per day for "incidentals", but NO ONE..including the front desk manager could tell me what "incidentals" are. Rooms were not cleaned daily...really disappointing! I stayed at the hotel in prior years, but since it changed hands, it should be closed down! SPI is beautiful...too bad this hotel made our trip a nightmare!

The problems here are so numerous, I hardly know where to start. Unless you are starving and can't take another step, I recommend you eat elsewhere. The beds sag,creak and aren't fit for the dog pound. As for things that did't work; door locks, wireless thermostat and the vending machine on our floor wasn't even plugged in nor filled. The phones were "a piece of crap", the pool was filthy and on Saturday morning, they turned off the water for "one hour" and at 3:30 in the afternoon it was still off. They lied and said it was off all over the island, which it was not. We moved to another motel and never intend to stay there, ever again.

the towls were dirty the pool had a 106 peces of trash poor breakfast selection the apples were like thay had ben bitin by bugs the bananas were as black as soot.

Stayed this past February and again last August. The amenities are fantastic. The staff was nice and helpful. Nice restaurant and bar with a great happy hour. Room was clean with a redone kitchen and a huge balcony with great views. We will be back!

DIRTY! The hotel overall is filthy.We weretold hotel had been redone after last hurricane damage Rooms have mildew in bathrooms, and water stains inside rooms. We were also appaleed that rooms have a plastic type Sisal rug under both beds that is so filthy my feet actually stuck to it. There was sand all over it and it was gross. If you expect daily service, all you get is your beds made, and soaps etc stocked. No sweeeping, vacuming etc. Front desk staff is very standoffish, I actually called them out and asked why they were there in such a bad mood? This is the hospatality industry for Gods sake! We attended a conventions and our rooms were secured, we had a block of rooms, that had been secured through our company. Upon check in, oh that was another disaster, we had to wait till after 6:30pm for rooms, check in is at 2pm if I am not mistaken! No apologies, nothing! Anyways, after checking in, they asked for a C.C. for ammenities, ok, but we were adamant, dont charge this card,they assured us, no this would not happen. Well guess what, we were charged and the front desk guy was rude about it. I had to argue to get this changed! Convention area was decent, food was decent, bars were all understaffed and major lines indoors and forget out doors. I think they are trying to run a 4 and 5 star hotel on a skeleton crew. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE!!!!

If you want to pay $239 a night for a $89-a-night hotel...then this is the place for you. * If you need internet, you will have it about 5% of the time. * The sink was stopped up * The toilet ran all night * The thermostat was hanging off the wall * There was an iron, BUT no ironing board. * There was hot water....PART OF THE TIME. * The base tiles in the bathroom looked like they had been installed by a blind drunk. * There were no feet on the mini fridge, so I had to prop it up with the guest services notebook to be able to open the door. * Some of the staff are really nice, but others act like they hate life, hate their jobs, and hate you. Finally, when I got ready to leave they would not let me use a luggage cart unless I took a bellhop. I don't mind tipping a bellhop, but I like to take my time and load my luggage a certain way. There is a BRAND NEW Hilton Garden Inn opening up down the road. They are GREAT...stay there instead.
