Bahia Mar Resort & Conf Ctr, South Padre Island

Arrived at 4 am in the morning and the night security couldn't find our paper work, I am 7 months pregnant and would like to be able to lay down, after a bit of complaining they effortlessly found our paper work, but gave us temporary wrist bands and we were asked to return in the morning for our permanent ones. We arrived at 9 am the next day to get our wrist bands and the guy was not in his office until 11, I was not going to put my plans on hold to wait for him so I proceeded with my day, later when we returned they were so rude and yellig because we didn't have our other wrist bands and than called my fiancé a drunk because he had a case of beer in the back of the truck. They were so rude and the condo was not very clean and was not worth the money, in addition they constantly questioned my fiancé and his friend of where they're going and so on but when a female walked by with no wrist band or a temporary one they paid no attention. You have no privacy or any freedom in there. I will never be going back and would not reccomend this place to anyone. They will threaten to evict you, if you even complain about one thing. I'd rather stay at a cheap hotel and be treated with respect than stay here.

My family and i always vacation at south padre island. when people mention padre island your first impression is a nice beach with great weather and party year round. that part is true;0 but dont stay here at bahia mar unless you like being at a place like guantanamo prison. u pay for rental you pay for wrist bands to be inside gates. no guest allowed. no parties, no bbq place no social hangout. no enternet. = no fun:( plz dont waist your hard earned money here. security are everywhere especially in the pool area??? wonder why. even some security guards cant figure out why stupid people like myself dare to stay here at bahia mar. it only happens once in my book. i feel sorry for the owners of the condos. we ended spending more time hanging out the the Envernest on the Gulf. hope this help your decision.

I thought I would fulfill my obligation as a Good Samaritan and warn every hard working American so they will not fall into this prison like trap and stay at the Bahia Mar condos. It all started at check in when we discovered all these unexpected hidden fees. We had to pay for wristbands for every person in our party, 50 dollars per car to park on the property, and of course the “Secret Service security”. We were also not allowed to have any visitors on the property that were not “on the list” that we signed up on when we registered (even my 5 year old son). We were basically on lock down and on house arrest. We booked our reservation in January and were never contacted by the new ownership that changed over in February, to explain any of the changes. We were only notified once we made the final payment on arrival. Once we finally worked through all the deceitfulness by the owners, we started our week long vacation at Bahia Mar. The property was nice and well maintained, but we were constantly followed by security and from the beach to the pool, to the pool to the beach, and once again from the beach to the pool. We were constantly told not to wear cotton in the pool area when nobody in our group was clearly wearing cotton. We had an incident where we were approached by a white heavy set security card and he aggressively approached me and yelled at me to tell my wife to not wear cotton in the pool. I calmly told the rent a cop that the lady was not my wife, but my sister. He got angry and told me to turn down our music. The music was already turned down and it was the middle of the day. The pool was full of the owner’s family, which they all reside in central Mexico, and they did not agree to my country music. (I’m Hispanic). I told security that I was leaving the pool area, but he was not done yelling at us. He said, “I don’t want to arrest you son!” It was not worth all the breath to explain to this guy that he was not a commissioned officer and had no authority to arrest me, not to mention that I didn’t break a single rule. The rest of the week we were followed step by step like prisoners on the chain gang. The next day 2 members of our party were pulled out of the pool and asked to see the wrist band. The same security guard said they were trying to remove the bracelet to give to someone else and that the number on the bracelet did not match any condo on the property. He harassed them and gave them a hard time. The owner of the property was a female from Monterrey Mexico and was always seemed to bestirring up the problems. She would come around and coincidently security was shaking somebody down as soon as she left the area. We asked to speak with her to complain about the treatment, but she refused to speak with us. Little to say our vacation was miserable and we felt unwanted and not worthy of staying at the Bahia Mar. We will never stay at this property again and it is apparent that there was a cultural disconnect to what South Padre Island is and the ownership. Please save the misery of your family and friends and find a different place to make memories while in South Padre!

If you like being harassed by security guards while walking about the facility (even if you are wearing your mandantory blue wristband that must be worn at ALL TIMES) God forbid you not have it on for a quick trip to the car, be prepared to be harassed the whole way back to your condo over that one. The pool is nice, the condos are ok, all older and there are better places on SPI, but the security presence is just absolutely over the top and really keeps you from being able to enjoy the place. Avoid this one at all costs.

a total night mare the beds had bed bugs , the refridg worked half of the time, afire hazzard, some of the ele. outlets didnt work , the sliding door could only be opened by man,no cookings pits allowed, my daughter cut her foot on the carpet spikes, had to ware wrist bands at all time ,complained to managment on the first night, several days later nothing was done the security were watching the guest like hawks, the place smelled , and the people at padre rentals 3100 padre drive were very rude,we well never go there again

Please read this. Due to new management (I'm told), Bahia Mar has implemented new security procedures that are utterly ridiculous. Everyone must wear a wrist band AT ALL TIMES to get into your room. We were unaware of this militant security force when we drove across the state on vacation - so we had one extra car and two extra people for our room. There were ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS - as far as they cared, two people had to give up and go home. 10 people were expected to arrive in two cars (including a truck and a Camaro - yeah right). We spoke with management to see if there was any way we could pay a fee or something to get our other two people in, but they would have none of it. Fire code risk, they said. (As if there was a fire, and our hotel with 2 exits and 3 balconies would not be enough to accomodate two extra people). Eventually, two of our own had to pay $480 to stay 3 nights at a different hotel across the road. But the spectacular service didn't stop there - we were harassed by security guards multiple times, telling us "if we see your friend (one of the ones who went elsewhere), we're evicting you," and when someone asked to move their car to the other entrance, a guard radioed in "he's with that guy who was giving you trouble earlier." That "guy" even showed them his $480 receipt, but they didn't care. NO LAWS WERE BROKEN BY US, but for the rest of the day, we had at least one guard watching us while we were at the beach. Sometimes two. After multiple efforts to make peace, the guards agreed to leave us alone. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't exercise their right to search our room. But because of this ridiculous system, we hardly got to spend time with 1/6 of our vacation group. Bahia Mar won't be getting our business again, that's for sure.

The Bahia Mar has had a whole new facelift. You wont even recognize it. Torn down and rebuilt.the entire resort. 2 new beautiful pool with hot tubs and all new landscape. Security is excellent!!!! The Hotel is being transformed into luxury condos. The place is GREAT!!!!!

We just went with a group of four families, 14 kids, 9 adults. One of the families stayed in the hotel and though they said the accomodations were fine, the room was out dated and needed a deep cleaning, though it was clean for the most part. The other three families all stayed in a wonderful three bedroom, three bath condo. The whole condo was clean and seemed to have been kept up really well. We had easy access to the beach, which also was kept clean around the property. There was a nice pool by our room (I guess another one too, but I didn't go looking), but we didn't get to use it as there were people drinking in it all the time and we didn't want to be in that environment with our kids. There was plenty of room for the kids to run around by the picnic tables and shuffle board, they loved the trip. We had an overall good experience and would go back.

Look you can read all these reviews half is good half isn't so you pretty much are going to feel mixed about this. But what i got from this i'm gonna give it a try i was ther once i loved it it awesome and i great deal for the price i called all the hotels on the beachside, and all were over $125, a standerd room has 2 queens,Tv, microwave, and refridgator. FOR ONLY $60!!!!!!!!!!!! now all these people can complain but for the price they got it's a real deal. so take the reviews you want from what i remember it's clean, breakfeast was great, pool was awesome, and the best part a great bargin!! so i haven't been there in awhile so i'm going agian june 6 2008. i'll write another review and let you know up dates..just look for V reports. for my reviews.

despite of everything that we heard and read on the internet my friends and i decided to stay there i loved there place great service cleaness was well and i absoulutley loved the view it was excellent i cant wait to go back
