Residence Inn Memphis East, Memphis

The hotel has just completed a 'reddo'. New beds, furniture in rooms and lobby, and new carpets. I looked at other reviews and think this new hotel condition needs to be mentioned. I will stay at the Residence Inn again.

Service, cleanliness and great breakfasts make this hotel a great stay at a very good rate. I highly recommend it and have already stayed here twice.

The Residence Inn Memphis East has the Marriott name on it, but should not. The hotel was unkempt and needed to be renovated about 8 years ago. The room furniture was so stained, dirty and tattered that we would be ashamed to donate it to charity. One bed in our suite was comfortable but the other had a visible sag to the middle. The property is next to a very busy RR track and the trains are not hesitant to blow their whistles all through the night, making a good night's sleep simply impossible. When we arrived in our room, we had to re-clean the bathroom to get toothpaste residue off one of the sink tops. The hotel staff was very professional. We suspect they must get special training in dealing with guests who are demanding their money back, a new room, etc. They very pleasantly explained to us that there were no other rooms. We were very stuck in this awful place since there were no other rooms in town that we could find--believe us, we looked! Renovation would help, but the RR tracks cannot be moved. We will never return to this hotel.
