New management, better experience
By Kristi, 10/19/09
Although most reviews I read were negative, my husband and I had a great experience there the weekend of October 9th, 2009. The staff couldn't have been more courteous, the room (an executive suite) was wonderful. Plenty of room, nice furnishings, very clean, none of the rumored "smells." No mishaps occurred at all. We ordered room service & it arrived in 10 minutes and was delicious!! The room service personnel couldn't have been sweeter. It was perfect for a weekend getaway - nice & close to the airport for those in a hurry. The facility is a little older but the whole building is undergoing renovation. I asked the front desk staff about the negative reviews & they said they were under new management now. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a weekend getaway!! We had a great experience!

Horrible Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/09
While staying at the hotel I told my 12 year old daughter that she could leave her digital camera, along w/some of her other electronic gadgets in the nightstand drawer while we were gone for the day. After being gone all day, we returned to the room to find several of the items that had been left in the nightstand drawer, now out on top of the nightstand. One of the items that was taken out of the nightstand drawer was my daughter's digital camera, and it had been damaged. The front desk staff did not seem bothered one way or the other, and I was told that I needed to speak with the manager the next morning. I spoke w/the manager and the housekeeping supervisor, and filled out an incident report. I never heard back from anyone during the following 2 days of my stay. I left messages for the manager, but I never got a return phone call. Approximately a week later, I received a phone call from the hotel's insurance company. I provided a tape recorded statement of what happened, and was told that an investigation was taking place. About a week later I received a letter from the hotel's insurance company stating that the hotel provides safe deposit boxes, and that my claim was denied. The housekeeping supervisor informed me at the time that I completed the incident report that the housekeeping staff is not suppose to go in any drawers when a room is occupied. I know that this is the policy, and I have never had an experience like this before. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Won't go back again
By Marsha, 05/20/09
This was my second time staying at this hotel. The first vist was great, the rooms were nice and clean and the price was reasonable. This second time the room was dirty and we did not get maid service until late in the evening. I have a discrepancy with my bill and I have been calling the hotel for the last two day and I have yet to receive a call back from their billing department. I could not wait to leave. It was only a two night stay and since we were not in the room alot, I did not bother to switch hotels.

Better to sleep in a ditch!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/17/08
I would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. I arrived at 2:15pm. Had a reservation for a King Size bed in a smoking room. Seems simple enough. The clerk was pleasant - later discovered that it was actually the shift manager. Got to my room and it looked like a scene from a horror movie. The walls & ceiling were water damaged, carpets and tile were filthy, and the bed looked like it was picked up at the local Goodwill. There was a tiny desk with a lamp that had been broken and glued back together. The window with the deafeningly loud A/C unit was covered with dust and spider webs. I attempted to call the front desk to complain...but the phone didn't work. Oh, and the bed was not a King size bed. So, I dragged my 2 suitcases up to the front desk and explained why Room #1 was not acceptable. I informed the clerk that I had reserved a King size bed in a smoking room. I was quickly given a less-than-sincere apology and a key to Room #2. I overheard the front desk staff mumbling about me under their breath as I walked toward the elevator. There were 4 members of staff standing behind the desk, no other customers, and not 1 of them offered to assist me with my bags. So, I arrived at Room #2. It was indeed a King size bed...in a non-smoking room. It only took a second for me to look around and discover that this room was no better than the first - Goodwill bed, spider webs, filthy floor, etc. So, I called the front desk - the phone actually worked, amazingly enough - and reported that I had just been moved to this room and, yet again, it did match my reservation. The clerk on the other end of the phone actually laughed and said, "Oh, you wanted a King size bed in a smoking room!" He proceeded to tell me that I was welcome to come back to the front desk (with 2 suitcases in tow) and pick up a key for Room #3. I informed him that I would wait outside of Room #2 for my key to be delivered. Approximately 5 minutes later, a member of the janitorial staff delivered my key. He was the most pleasant person that I encountered in this hotel. I arrived in Room #3, walked into the bathroom and immediately heard the sound of my shoes sticking to the floor. As I exited the bathroom, I noticed that I was in a room that adjoined to another. The door between the two was bowed and appeared to have been busted open (presumably by the cops) in very recent past. Additionally, the lock appeared to be one strong wiggle away from allowing the door to open again. Third strike, I had enough. I gathered my things and returned to the front desk. The clerk rolled her eyes and said, "and what's wrong with this room?" I am a calm and patient person, but I could have ripped her head from her shoulders. I told her the problems with Room #3 and that the hotel was not fit for the rodents that live there. I received a confirmation # for the cancelled charges fairly quickly at that point. I left, found another hotel, and showered immediately to wash off anything that might have attached itself to me in that nasty, rundown hotel. It would have been better to sleep in a ditch, in that terrible neighborhood, than to have spent the night in that hotel. It should be condemned.

ok hotel BAD LOCATION
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/08
THE HOTEL WAS ITSELF WAS OK. THERE WERE A FEW THINGS I DID NOT LIKE. 1. NO REFRIDGE IN ROOM 2. NO MICROWAVE IN ROOM 3. VERY HIGH PRICES FROM ROOM SERVICE(3SANDWICHES AND FRIES $56) 4. $1 FOR EVERY LOCAL PHONE CALL(THEY DO NOT TELL YOU ABOUT THAT UNTIL YOU LEAVE) 5. ONLY 2 WASHING MACHINES IN A HOTEL THAT HAS OVER 500 ROOMS 6. THEY CLOSE 2 OF THE ENTRANCE GATES AT 7PM FROM FEAR YOUR CAR WILL BE BROKEN IN AFTER DARK. THE POOL AND WEIGHT ROOM WERE NICE. THE BIG FACTOR IS LOCATION. THIS HOTEL IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLUMS.YOU WILL NOT FEEL SAFE IF YOU DO ANYTHING WITHIN A 5 MILE RADIOUS OF THE HOTEL (INCLUDEING GRACELAND).

Would not recommend
By Radakl1, 03/22/08
This was the most unpleasant hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel was dirty and worn out. There was water damage in the ceiling/wall of the room, rooms were not very clean (hair in the bathtub before we ever used it) the hallways were filthy and had carpet bulging, elevators and stairwells were dirty and had sticky floors. There was no heat in the room and thermostat cover was broken off. If you are looking for an expensive place to sleep and are not concerned with cleanliness then this is the place for you. Myself, I would rather not have to wear my shoes in the shower.

By Mrs. Baby Phat, 09/10/07
I LOVE STAYING AT THE HOLIDAY INN SELECT,MEMPHS TN EVERY THING WAS GREAT WE WERE THERE FROM JACKSON MS FOR THE SOUTHERN HERITAGE CLASSIC. I HAD ONE PROBLEM OUR BATHROOM REALLY NEEDS AN UPGRADE THE CEILINGS WERE PEELING, THE TISSUE DISPENCER WAS BROKEN, THE BOTTOM PART OF THE DOOR WAS CHIPPING AND AROUND THE LIGHT FIXTURES WERE RUSTED. THE ROOM COULD ALSO USE NEW CARPET THERE WERE SPOTS THAT WERE VERY NOTICIABLE. I WOULD STAY AT THE H.I.S I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/06/07
VERY NICE EXTRAS FOR MEMBERS. THEY ONLY HAD 1 SET OF EXTRAS IN THE ROOM FOR KIDS SO THEY GOT ANOTHER SET WHEN THEY SAW WE HAD 2 CHILDREN. HAD SOME PROBLEMS GETTING INTO THE ROOM WITH THE KEY CARD 3 TIMS, BUT ENGINEERING WAS UP THERE RIGHT AWAY AND GOT IT FIXED. THE ONLY DOWNFALL WE HAD WAS THAT THE POOL WAS CLOSED DUE TO PAINTING AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE IN THE HOTEL FOR US TO DO

Just bad luck
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/06
The Hotel was great on the first night very clean and spacious close to downtown Memphis easy to access from the highway. However, at 3am the first night the power went out in the whole complex. We were told it would momentarily be back on. After being out of the hotel all day returning at 7pm the Hotel was still hot and dark! They were not very cooperative and accommodating with helping make alternative arrangements. I know it was a freak thing and won't most likely happen again. However, I feel the staff could have been better prepared for a accident like this and how to help GUESTS who are paying for amenities they are not receiving at all!!!!!! Overall I would recommend it for stay but just based on my personal bad experience I would not go back.!!!!
