We had a wonderful stay at Palmer Gulch Lodge. We just returned from their 5 days ago my husband myself and our son who ran in the mt. Rushmore marathon we really enjoyed our stay, they made us feel right at home as for the Breakfast they had cereal and milk muffins, english muffins Bagels cream cheese, juice coffee ,Hot chocolate, and lots of treats to last you all day. The rooms are very nice and comfortable as for us also we would liked to have Queen Beds instead of full size. we had alot of fun ,we didn't want to leave ,we will stay at palmer Gulch again we are already planing our next trip

No complaints
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/08
We just returned from a week in July, 2008 at Palmer Gulch Lodge. Our party was a mom, and three teens. The restaurant on the premises (Ponderosa) was very good. The continental breakfast was plentiful; we were there from 6:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and never ran out of food. They had cereal and milk, blueberry and cinnamon muffins, English muffins, bagels with cream cheese, milk, juice, and coffee. There was a Pizza and Sandwich shop which we did not go to, but there were plenty of people there all day long. We did have ice cream at the Ice Cream shop that was delicious. The general store came in handy when my daughter got a cold and needed cough medicine. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful with directions to the local sites and activities. The location was close to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park (buffalo safari), horeseback riding (on premises), and ATVing at Deerfield Lake. The front desk gave us suggestions for restaurants at Hill City and Custer. We would recommend going to Palmer Gulch Lodge and would return if in the area again. The only complaint is that our Cell phones did not work on the premises. They did have wireless internet access and land lines. The rooms were clean and the balcony had a nice view of the woods. There were families with grandparents as well as very young children; everyone we talked to were happy with the room and surroundings. Would recommend Palmer Gulch Lodge.

Location, Location, Location

The Palmer Gulch Resort is in an ideal location for Black Hills vacationing. It isn't too far from any of the Black Hills attractions. We found the motel staff to be friendly, the room pretty clean (my wife says one of the pillow cases was dirty), and the beds comfortable. The campground also has a lot of nice pluses, such as the laundromat, General Store, the 'all you can eat Pancake Tent' and candy shop. Not everything was perfect, though. I'd prefer queen size beds vs. full size, and larger, thicker towels. If we go back to the Black Hills again, we'll probably stay here, but try one of the cabins instead of the lodge.

Best kept secret!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/08/05
We just returned from a vacation to the Black Hills, and stayed two nights at the lodge (62 rooms. This resort also has 500 RV/camping sites, numerous 'camping cabins' and 8 deluxe, fully furnished cabins that sleep 8-10. Nothing here is overpriced and there was plenty to do. Two big pools, three hot tubs, a stable with horses, trail rides, on site gas, store, candy shoppe, etc. I wish I could go back tomorrow. If you are going to see Mt. Rushmore, book a stay here. Nightly shuttles to both MT. Rushmore and Crazy Horse lighting ceremonies. I would love to go back. Our chidren (16 and 10), had a great time.
