Crowne Plaza South, Pittsburgh

Overall..very nice! We stayed two days. Good breakfast at the restaurant, good drinks at the outdoor patio by the pool. Its right next to a mall if you have free time to burn. Negatives...Outdoor pool was nice, but it needed to be cleaned. Lots of leaves and grass floating in the water..I actually skimmed it myself. There was also a tray of leftover food from room service that sat by the elevator door for a whole day..it was kind of annoying.

This hotel is located near the train station and opposite the South Hills Village mall. It also has another mall behind it with a grocery store. The Olive Garden and Boston Market restaurants are within walking distance so it is a perfect spot if you're without a car. The shuttle bus will only take you to the train station but when we needed this service at 8am it was on a 40min trip to drop off a group of guys at their work! So, we had to haul our suitcases half a mile which we were not impressed with. We received good service at check-in and the room was huge and exceptionally clean. House keeping though arrived really late on the weekends i.e. 4pm!! The shower head has different settings which was really nice and the water was hot and the pressure was really good but the bathroom was slightly small. Unfortunately our room had doors joining both rooms on either side and these doors were not buffered at all. We could hear everything!! Our neighbor's cell phone conversation, their TV programs etc. Let's just say it wasn't a room for honeymooners!! The free wireless and cable internet took ages to connect and it would drop out every now and then which was really annoying. The pool is more for paddling than doing laps but the fitness cenhter was well appointed. The business center, however, had 1 PC but it wasn't used that frequently. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it didn't seem overly priced. There was also an outdoor bar and I heard one person complain to the front desk about the noise and she was told to complain to the restaurant because they couldn't do anything about it! So, be warned if your room looks over the pool. Overall a clean and nicely located hotel but some of the rooms have serious noise issues.
