Avoid, avoid,avoid!
There are no circumstances under which I would recommend this motel. We were with a large group & saw many rooms. Some rooms have been renovated & some haven't. We've stayed in many Holiday Inns(Priority Platinum Club), so had realistic expectations, but the first night we had one of the worst rooms we have stayed in anywhere. I'm talking solid matter in toilet, hair in sink & tub, dirty comforters & bedskirts, oddly balled up lumpy pilows, dirty coffee tray, stained & dirty rug (our feet got dirty from it), grimy walls, etc. Clearly more than just a skipped cleaning. The room stunk of mold & old smoke with a layer of deodorizing spray on top.The stench was so bad that at 3:00 a.m. my husband & I discussed sleeping in our car since all nearby motels were booked, but decided it was too cold. I could go on, but I think that conveys our initial experience.
The next day my husband sat there until noon, when they moved us to another room. It had been remodeled & was like a different motel. We hoped all was well, but upon returning to our room after midnight we discovered the motel security guard leaving our room! The front desk checked someone else into our room & gave him the keys early afternoon, but he didn't go to the room until after midnight, saw our things & returned to the desk. The guard then accessed our room to see if it was occupied. Thankfully, the other customer was an honest man, since he was walking around with keys to our room for ten or more hours.
The rest of our stay was less eventful, but again just not up to minimum standards for a mid-price hotel/motel. I could easily overlook hallway carpeting that was more stained than not & we soon learned that the food in the restaurant, while convenient, should be avoided. The flies and gnats buzzing salad bar were an appetite killer, though. There were just too many things that smack of bad management, like having coffee and a pot but no cups, not even foam. When I went to the desk to ask for cups, I was told to go to the bar and try there. Not a big deal, but the small things were beginning to grate.
Which leads me to the most infuriating part. The day we checked out we received "missed messages" on both a cell & our home phone originating from the approximate area of this HI & could think of no one there who might have both numbers. When my husband redialed the incoming numbers the man who answered denied making any calls. Naturally, we became concerned about identity theft since keys to our room had been given out, and upon checking our credit card, discovered numerous separate charges from HI that added up to hundreds of dollars in overcharges. My husband left a polite but urgent message for the manager, outlining some of our concerns, asking who had accessed our room, etc.& requesting a return call first thing in the morning. I stayed home to deal with it. No call. I left more messages, tried to work with the desk on snarled up charges, getting nowhere & kept leaving urgent messages for the manager, who they confirmed was onsite& in his office. No call. I contacted HI customer service who left a message for him to call us. Still nothing. We ordered credit reports, set up credit monitoring and made endless calls to our credit cards, finally suspending them & notifying all our bills on auto-pay. Meanwhile, manager can't manage to pick up his phone or return a call. Late on Day 3, I located the franchise holder, complained & heard from the manager shortly after.
We received a hollow apology about our "less than satisfactory" stay(understatement of the year) & he said the front desk had been working on our "issue". He said they can't trace all the HI charges and wants a copy of my bill.
NOW I FEEL LIKE A COMPLETE IDIOT. Just called member of group to suggest they check charges. She said her husband was so upset at being stuck in stinking smoking room that he demanded adjustment at the desk & they took off all but one night. WE can't get rid of extra charges.
