Nice stay, very pleasant staff!
By Liz, 12/12/11
We were staying for one night because of a concert in town. The bartender at Victor's, the hotel's restaurant, offered to have the van drive us to and from the show, even giving us an after hours number to call if we were staying out to enjoy some drinks in town! the drivers were both exceptionally nice and the hotel staff were all very helpful. The room was clean and tidy, nothing extra special, but definitely worth the price for such convenience to town and what the area has to offer.

A nice place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/7/09
I stayed at several hotels in the Erie area over the years and this one is the nicest near Presque Isle. It is convenient to the beach, the zoo and Rt. 79 (if you want to get on and go the casino), I have stayed in both the hotel rooms and the motel rooms in the back and I prefer the motel rooms. That is just me, but I like being able to drive right up to my room. The motel rooms are much smaller, but still very clean. We stayed over the busy 4th of July weekend and paid $160/night for a room in the hotel. This is a bit pricey in my opinion for Erie, PA. I have no complaints about the room or the service. The breakfast buffet was very nice, although I was a little ticked they now charge $4.00 but it's well worth it. Pool was great. Although the hot tub wasn't exactly "hot", but that's a minor thing, They also have a sauna and exercise room. The equipment is a bit old (80's style nautilus equipment) but my husband used it and it serves the purpose for those who want to get a work out in. I would recommend the Clarion, but would suggest going in off-peak season when the rates are lower - or stay in the motel part which is always cheaper.

Loved the hotel!
By Alyssa, 8/6/09
I would highly recommend the Clarion Hotel. We've stayed at other hotels nearby but none of them compare to the experience we had at the Clarion. The other hotels and motels we've stayed at were always old and outdated with no indoor pool. The cost was similar to what we payed but got a lot more for he price. We loved the pool with the hot tub even thou it would have been a lot better if it was heated. We had a room poolside on the second floor and only had to walk around the corner to get to the pool which was very convenient. The hotel was very pretty and breakfast buffet was very good for the price. Only complaint was that the ice machines were always empty from everyone getting ice for their coolers including us but staff were very friendly and head of housekeeping"Joe" filled our cooler with the ice from the restaurant. I would highly recommend booking your next stay in Erie at the Clarion Hotel.

Great Old Property-Worth Every Penny-01012009
By 69 Honda, 1/3/09
This was our third stay here over the past 10 months. We only live 107 miles away but enjoy coming to Erie for the shopping, zoo, casino, lake, and many restaurants. The hotel itself is very close to the lake and several water parks, however we come in the winter months and stay here mainly for the large indoor pool our 5yr old loves. Check out the Choice Hotels web site for some really nice pictures. The staff has been extremely helpful, attentive, and professional. This past trip we invited my parents to come stay. They live nearby in Bradford Pa. We had adjoining rooms, pool level, king non-smoking. The rooms were nicely decorated, and the bedding far exceeded our expectations for a $69 a night establishment. "I'm guessing the rates are higher during the summer months" I would compare the rooms to those of a Courtyard or higher end Hampton Inn property. We requested a roll away for our daughter. I'm assuming because I made my reservation over the Choice Hotel web site and indicated 2 adults and 1 child the staff made the extra effort to place a large stuffed animal on our bed. I'm assuming that because there wasn't one in my parent’s room. The stuffed animal was a great hit although she wanted to take it home. lol. Maybe they could offer them for sale at the front desk in the future. I didn't ask. She has enough. We haven't eaten at Victors, the onsite restaurant but have heard people at the pool comment the food was very good. We have enjoyed the hotel breakfast there though. It's one of the better spreads I've come across and I spend 60-70 nights a year in hotels for business. The hotel has recently begun charging $4 for breakfast. I was a little disappointed by this but it's definitely worth it. I was going to make a stink because the web site still lists free breakfast, but we love it so much here and the $4 is a bargain for what you get! We have stayed at two other choice properties in Erie over the past year as well as one of the several Marriott offerings. The Clarion is the best deal by far in our opinion.

Horrible front desk clerks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/5/08
The breakfast was good and the choice of pillows and bedding was nice...HOWEVER, my stay was ruined by inept front desk clerks. I reserved my room for 2 nights, but when checking in, I told the clerk that I would be checking out by 6 pm the following day and I asked about the possibility of getting a reduced rate or not having to pay the next night. I was told that it probably wouldn't be a problem. I said great. When I checked out the next day by 4:30, I was told I would be charged full price because the cleaning staff had already left for the day and so the hotel couldn't resell my room. Why wasn't I told this when I checked in?! This was unacceptable to me. Don't tell me it probably won't be a problem and then the next day not even consider not charging me for the second night. If the fist desk clerk did not know this policy he should have checked or said that I would be charged. Check out ruined an otherwise medicore hotel stay.

OVERPRICED
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
GREAT LOCATION. THE ROOMS COULD USE SOME UPDATING, THE BATHROOMS ARE VERY SMALL. FOR THE PRICES THEY ARE CHARGING (EVEN WITH A DISOUNT) THE ROOMS ARE WAY OVERPRICED. THE BREAKFAST BUFFET HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE WE HAVE BEEN GOING THERE (3 YEARS). EVEN THE ROOMS WITH THE BALCONY ARE THE SAME AS A REGULAR ROOM. THE POOL AREA IS NICE. AFTER SEEING HOW MUCH THE ROOM RATES WILL BE IN 2006 THIS HOTEL IS OFF OF OUR LIST-I COULD GET A ROOM FOR THE SAME PRICE WITH A VIEW OF THE OCEAN!

Not worth the price
By AmitB, 9/27/05
Paid ~$90+taxes. Our room was on the ground floor. Given the layout, and the low ceiling, it felt as if we entered the basement. Room and bathroom were nice and clean, no specific complaints as such, but couldn't figure out how the room was different from one in motel6/8 to justify the higher price. There was something in the air, smacked of a cheapo place. Breakfast (free) wasn't all that great, didn't use gym/pool/any other service, so can't comment, overall experience wasn't very good. Will probably go for Marriott (Homesuites?)/Best Western/etc. next time I'm in Erie!

Hard to get good help these days...
By Brent, 7/17/05
For one of the most expensive stays in Erie I thought I would have gotten a bit more... Everything was about what I'd expect from a decent national chain. The best feature of this hotel in my opinion is the pool. This pool is in courtyard setting (see photo) that is truely an experience. The free breakfast buffet makes this stay an average value.
