Older Resort, wont go back
By ,
Thank goodness we only stayed one night, this place didn't live up to the expectation or price. When we first got to our Deluxe room, it was HOT. We called down to the front desk who informed us there was NO A/C in the room and they would send maintenance down to check the thermostat. The guy came down and said everything looked fine and offered to bring fans for the room. The only way to cool down the room was having the front and back doors open with both fans running on high. Our next issue was the dust, there was a thick layer of dust on everything in the room. It must have been a while since the room was last used but at least dust it. And last, this resort is extremely old. The TV in our room was an old bubble TV that couldn't even been seen from the bed because of the angle of the dresser. Everything in the room looked like it was out of the 80's. The bathroom was the only updated thing in the room. Wont be staying here again, WAY over priced for what you get.

Horrible!
By ,
I had a HORRIBLE experience here... what was, on the surface, a loveley weekend celebrating a friends wedding turned into a complete nightmare. I was a member of the wedding party and the staff at Salishan told us we could leave our purses and things in a locked/secure room during the ceremony/reception. Trusting that our things would be locked we proceded to enjoy the evening until we went to get our things. Two of our purses were stolen including our phones, licenses and bank cards (probably a $1500.00 theft in all). Jason C. The "Manager" at the hotel told us he would be interviewing staff and working to find out what happened as well as facilitating filing a police report. Three days later Jason absolutly will not return my phone calls when I have requested an update of the investigation. I spoke with the police department and was told that he told them we probably just misplaced the purses and didn't really have them stolen. Well, let me tell you, someone has been using my cell phone (which has now been turned off), so I know for a fact they were taken. And suprise suprise, again, the staff at the resort will not return my calls. I understand that thefts happen all the time, so I'm not expecting them pay for it or anything, but I even paid for my room for the weekend without even the suggestion that they comp it after my stuff was taken. This is seriously the WORST invasion of privacy and customer service experience I've encountered in a long time, they should be ashamed of how they are treating well paying guests. NOTHING could make me give them my business again!!

there is only one salishan
By ,
My wife and I visit salishan several times a year and have been doing so for nearly 35 years. Salishan is quiet and refined. The food can be pricey but it is delicious. Whether you come to play golf, seek relaxation, or want to pamper yourself in the spa salishan is the coastal property of choice in Lincoln city. Thank you Mr. Gray for creating a retreat that so many of us call home. Sean

Rude staff, & overpriced!
By ,
My boyfriend & I stayed here on May 31st through June 2nd 2011 and were very disappointed. From the moment we checked in, the front desk people were extremely rude. The spa was broken and after going to the front desk to inquire about when it would be working again we were given the run around by the gentlemen there & told to check back the next day. I understand that things break sometimes and would normally be understanding if I had not been treated with such coldness. He didn't even have the courtesy to offer up an apology. I also would have at least like to have been notified at check in about it not working, and/or at least have staff do something to make it right. That being said we went back the next day only to find out by a very unfriendly lady this time, that it would not be working until Monday (after we left). This is the same lady that we dealt with when we checked out & noted that she didn't smile once or even ask how our stay was. After spending the amount of money we spent I expected at the VERY LEAST, good customer service. The room was on average, just OK. Nothing really great for the price you pay. The topper came when we were charged over one hundred dollars in extra fees at checkout, not to mention they charge you for internet! There is no dvd player and it is $18.99 to watch a movie!!! We will never be back & from now on we will stick with The Inn at Cannon Beach next time we want to get away to the coast. They have fresh baked cookies, goodie bags for the dogs & FREE movies. Plus the rooms were just as nice if not nicer then the ones at Salishan.

Beautiful and Full of Character!
By ,
My husband and I just got back from our stay at Salishan, for our second wedding anniversary. I had heard mixed reviews, but I am pleased to say that we love it. Our room had vaulted ceilings and a balcony overlooking the bay. It was very clean, the bed was comfortable (which is usually a big complaint for me), and I felt that the staff was very friendly. My only complaint was the shower head :) And that is kind of nit-picky. However, it was actually like trying to take a shower in the rain... I guess it's supposed to be fancy but I didn't like it. We got a package deal that included two massages. The spa was fantastic. I would consider it very comparable to the one we visited at the Hyatt in Maui - plus, a very peaceful setting. Honestly, my husband and I both thought the room was better than the one we stayed in for our honeymoon in Maui. We paid a LOT for that room, and it was boring and uncomfortable. I think for the Oregon Coast (which is definately more rustic than it is tropical) this hotel is great. We thought the pool and tennis courts were a bonus since we both play tennis...all in all, we can't wait to go back. We'll need to stay longer next time to really enjoy the property. I did notice that there were not very many guests, and that is why I wanted to write this review. I honestly think it was a shame, because of all the places I quoted out, this was the best deal (with massages of course) and the property is huge - I highly recommend it!! Crazy Recession :)

Getting Worse every year
By ,
We've stayed at the Salishan three times in the past three years. The first was during our Honeymoon then again in 2007 and 2008. Our first visit I would have rated this a 5 star, our visit in 2007 a 4 star, and more recently a 3 star. In short, service is getting worse in all aspects and and less attention is being paid to the facilities (e.g our fireplace was broken last time, less clean, etc). The only reason we continue to go back is because the Salishan Spa is wonderful. However, we think we will try a different lodging option next time we make a trip to the beautiful spa.

Loved our stay at Salishan!
By ,
This incredible resort has left the natural beauty around it. There are covered paths and walkways to just about every building. The trees and natural wood buildings make them blend into the environment. Friendly staff greeted us in the lobby with a fire burning gently in the majestic stone fireplace. Our room was not one of the highest priced but very comfortable none the less. We had a great porch overlooking the ocean across the street and a wooded area off to the side. We did not hear any neighbors above or next to us. Although unfortunately we did not get to play golf, it was one of the most beautiful courses I have seen! Across the street there are very nice shops and a path to the beach where my husband and I enjoyed solitude even when the sun was setting. We ate in the bar upstairs and enjoyed food and wine and the extremely friendly wait staff and her recommendations. The following night, we stopped by the bar for cocktails and appetizers and sat outside with the gas heaters to keep the chill away. All in all, our stay at Salishan was wonderful and I only wish we did not have to travel all the way across the country to enjoy the beauty and friendliness at Salishan!

Natural Selection
By ,
The Salishan Lodge at Gleneden Beach is one of the most beautiful vistas in the Northwest. The architecture timeless and infinitely mindful of it's natural setting. One feels they'd journeyed far and long for the effect of solitude, wrapped in distant sounds of the sea and wildlife, create immediacy of moments passing- slowly. Romantic indeed. One dines and lounges in a setting that beholds both majesty and grace of a rugged and seemingly undiscovered coastline. Unusual circumstances in America today. The "Sun Room" a perfect place for brunch or an early breakfast, the 5-star evening cuisine divine. The staff altogether kind w/a gentle/familiar presence. A must see!

Could have been so much better
By ,
Our stay started out with them telling us that they had only a King room for our family. My first though was good thing that scout training teaches the kids to travel with sleeping bags. We managed to get a roll-away in the hot stuffy room and last through the first night. The Pond building that our room was in manages to catch all the Highway 101 noise you can imagine even with the curtains closed up tight. Beware what their website says about amenities. Even though it says there is wireless--it is available at the $4.95 a day. That is a rip-off when every Best Western I've stayed in the last three years includes it for free. I also read the website thinking they had activities for children. The fine print that you find out about at the check-in is that it is $12 per hour per child. Wow. I could have brought a sitter from home for less than that. The kids and I spent as little time in the resort as possible preferring to go to the Oregon Aquarium, PigNPancake, Mo's, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and Sambo's who all did a great job and made our trip to the coast great. My expectation was that Salishan is one of the nicest places in Oregon. Sadly, if it was--it is no longer. The shower head wobbled in our room and the gas fireplace did not turn on. Tub Drain was slow and the outlet for the coffee maker did not work. I had to move the coffee maker to another outlet. The only reason this place is not terrible, is the room was clean, the setting is beautiful, and access to the wonderful Oregon Coast compensates for many sins. But if it had been my money not expense accounted, I would have felt ripped off rather than just disappointed. There is nothing there that could not be fixed and made wonderful with just a couple weeks of attention to detail so this review may not be accurate in the near future. I'd say the bell-weather to check would be the wireless Internet access--If it goes to included not extra, then they are paying attention.

Rip-Off
By ,
What a rip-off. The room was filthy -- the staff obviously wanted to be somewhere else doing something else. The price was outrageous -- you would think that they could afford good mattresses and at least halfway decent carpet and furnishings. There was no attempt to make my stay more pleasant. I checked out after one night -- upset that I didn't check out sooner.
