Loved It
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/21/11
The rooms are clean. The staff are polite and helpful. The reception area, staircases, etc. are a little odd looking but this is the least important part of the hotel. The breakfast hours are generous so there's little chance of missing it through getting up too late. The food is hygenic and plentiful but not interesting. The price was good too. Location very convenient.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL
By MICHAEL, 8/24/10
If you are coming to Asheville to visit family or friends please do not use this establishment.I tried to reserve a room for the upcoming Brewgrass Festival on Sept.18 today and was refused service because I live to close to Asheville. We live one hour and 15 min. away which is just a dui away from Downtown Asheville if you've been at a beer festival all day.I was apauled at the rude treatment I recieved today. So if your coming to our lovely mountains to visit a loved one or just to have a good time. Please look elsewhere, there are much better hotels in the area. The way I see it if the local folks money is'nt good enough yours probably is'nt either.

cool and funky
By artthebear, 4/17/10
i have had many an adventure at this place. there is no better place to stay for bele cher (or however you spell it). if you get hot and need a cool one, or whatever, just walk a few blocks back to your room, and emerge recharged. it's like being on a landlocked cruise ship filled with the high and tipsy. and the folks who worked there were really nice and fun. definitely not a 5-star motel, but i ain't no 5-star guy. like baby-o, or whoever, below, we had a bunch of couples scattered throughout the inn and a good time was had by all. i did get kicked out of the swimming pool, around 2 am, with a bunch of high school kids who were trying to corrupt me. if you are there for bele cher (?) look for the long haired guy in the cut off t-shirt, hanging out with the old blonde.

Refused to refund money despite incoming blizzard!
By J Jackson, 2/11/10
I booked a trip to Asheville because my family and I were planning a ski trip in Maggie Valley, not far from Asheville. The day before I was supposed to check into the Holiday Inn Downtown, Asheville, I saw a weather report that warned of an impending blizzard and it was recommended that no one travel if possible. At that point, I contacted customer service at the Holiday Inn Downtown and let them know that regrettably I had to cancel my trip due to the severe weather conditions. I was told by the clerk that they couldn't refund my money because I received a special advance purchase rate. I tried to rationalize with the Holiday Inn customer service clerk letting him know that we were driving up from Fl and it was recommended that we don't travel and I would think, due to the circumstances he could help me out, I'd be even willing to pay a cancellation fee. He only offered to move my reservation to a later date. Unsatisfied, I called Holiday Inn's corporate office and I was redirected back to the hotel. I was really surprised that they chose to resolve the situation in this manner, I'm not going to accept the open date in the future, because I refuse to stay at a hotel that has no compassion for its guests in situations that are unfortunate like this. So, if you plan on staying at this hotel, be warned, they are only concerned with the reservations, not the quality of customer service or the safety of their traveling guests.

Great location for Bel Chere
By BabySweetie338, 9/19/09
After reading the reviews we were a little nervous but had a great stay for Bel Chere. There were 5 couples in different parts of the hotel and all were very pleased with the stay!!

Great location
By jack, 4/3/09
I was very surprised to find a decent place to stay after reading the reviews. The location is great. If you are planniing to be out of your room alot it is fine. It was difficult to sleep on the street side with traffic. The room was clean & the bed was comfortable. The staff were very nice & the breakfast was good. I saw no bugs.

I wondered if this building still housed a hotel; it has long been known as,shall we say, a bit seedy. I guess the free clinic adjacent to the lobby has closed? I'm sure the million $ condo owners across street love the "traffic" that regularly comes and goes from this "hotel".

No roaches
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/08
The only pleasant surprise we had during our stay was that we didn't see any roaches. Apparently everyone in Asheville is required to own a Harley and none of them can afford a muffler. If you stay in one of the rooms facing the street you won't be able to sleep.

DO NOT STAY HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
I booked this hotel room for three days and ended up leaving after first night due to a LIVE ROACH in my bed, the shower water was coming out black, there was no toilet paper in our room, the beds dont have fitted sheets, and there was a bodily stain on the pillow. When we confronted front desk they were rude, said they didnt even care about our story and didnt care what problems we had. They claimed we brought the roach in and tried to move us to bottom floor. They returned our money but only after they hung up on us at least four times of trying to explain the situation. I have never been anywhere with worse customer service. Rooms are not kept up, hotel is extremely dirty and the staff is awful. DO NOT STAY HERE. There are several other hotels very close with much better customer service and beds wihout roaches. The close location of this hotel is not worth it.

Know where you're going
By SteveR, 10/15/07
I checked all the reviews on this hotel before we took our trip. I was a little nervous but the location is the best. The hotel could have been worse. It wasn't the cleanest but the people were nice and it worked for an overnight stay. Don't stay there if you plan to be in Asheville long term.
