Can't wait to return
By ,
We first went to the High Hampton 15 years ago. We have returned at least once a year since, and most years twice. We now take our grandchildren who all absolutely love it also. The peaceful and simply gorgeous surroundings make up for the simple rooms and none of the "modern conveniences". There are TV's scattered about the main building if you wish to watch them. The library, game closet, and simply being outdoors and hiking around the lake or walking in the gardens all make for a very enjoyable stay. The food tastes great and service fantastic, Even our grandchildren enjoy the afternoon tea and cookies. As their brochure says, "The High Hampton Inn isn't for everybody." But if you are looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation, and not the glammar, bright lights, and hustle and bustle of most places, the High Hampton Inn and Country Club is the place to be.

We had fun
By ,
My parents have been going here for about 20 years and we made our first trip this year. The rooms are rustic. The beds and linens are new and upgraded and they are very comfortable. The bath was small and no frills. The walls were plain wooden boards, might have even been painted plywood and there was some mold growing on the walls and in the shower because there wasn't an adequate fan. Our room was quite large but had minimal furniture in it. There is no a/c but we were there in July and were fine at night with the fan in the window, even chilly. Quite frankly the days weren't unbearable either. Now, it may sound like I didn't like it there. It was wonderful!!!! Admittedly the room was disappointing at first, but the setting and the relaxing soon take over and you don't really care anymore because you are only there to sleep at night. We had a porch that overlooked the lake and the we had them deliver some card tables and chairs and made use of their game and puzzle closet and had a blast sitting on the porch playing cards and other games. There is also a small library that you can borrow books from or you can take advantage of all the outdoor activities. The food was really good and even my picky kids didn't starve. It was fun to dress for dinner and then play bingo in the great room in the inn. Wonderul memories and we want to go back. It is expensive and I wish it wasn't quite so pricey for what you get but if you want an "old fashioned" vacation where you truly relax and get back to nature, you will like it here.

Could not even stand up in the shower
By ,
The setting is beautiful. I understand that the rooms are not supposed to be nice so that guests will spend most of their time outside or in the main hotel. I also understand that the place is rustic. Our room was tiny - all that could fit into it was a double bed and a chair. The linens were clean, but probably 15 years old. The room itself was very depressing. The bathroom was about 4 feet wide and the ceiling was 5'8" tall. I know this because I am 5'9". My 6'1" husband had to completely stoop in the bathroom. We asked the front desk to help, but they were really rude and told us that there was nothing they could do. We asked if we could move to another room and according to them, no other rooms were available. We definitely made the best of it, but I will never go back to the High Hampton Inn.

Not what I expected
By ,
The setting and lodge are beautiful. It is a very peaceful place. However, I did not expect no a/c. It was difficult wearing a coat and tie dinner with it being so warm. I reserved a room, not knowing I was in a cottage. I did not find it as private as I would have liked. This is a wonderful place for families that want to camp in a easy way with the amenities of the affluent (golf, tennis, spa).

Annual Trip
By ,
We truly enjoyed our stay at High Hampton Inn. The squash casserole melted in my mouth. The pan fried trout was the best I've ever eaten. The desserts were to "die for"!!! Hiking in the mountains covered with oranges, yellows, and greens was an awesome experience. Tasteful shops provided hours of shopping. We didn't miss the phone, TV, or computer at all!!! We hope to make this an annual trip.

Sleepless at High Hampton
By ,
We were lucky on our spring visit to High Hampton. The weather was nice and cool. The fireplace in our cabin was cozy and warm. However, on a recent visit to the same resort it was a different story. The food in the dining room was still delicious but the bedroom was about as hot as the upper 90 degrees temperature outside. I think it is fine that there is no T.V., telephones, etc. but there are times, even in the mountains, when air conditioning is a blessing. It's a miserable night when you toss and turn all night in the heat. Just think how many more people would consider coming to High Hampton if they were able to relax and sleep in a cool room.

Great Vacation Spot
By ,
We have been coming to the High Hampton Inn once or twice a year for over 10 years. We continue to be impressed by the fantastic staff, great food, great golf, and absolutely stunning scenery. We have started bringing our grandchildren to the Inn and they love it. The food is simple, but tastes fantastic and there is always a good variety on the buffett. If you like high end luxerious amenities, then this is not where you should visit. However, if a return to the simple, peaceful, and genuinely friendly, helpful staff are what you seek, then this is your place.

stayed at the inn back in 1959
By ,
Hopefully High Hampton will Never change - I can still picture it in my minds eye from over 35 years ago...when I was a teenager, I took care of little Will McKee, remember him well as a up and coming teenager, now he is of course the owner, the Inn has all the charm of yesteryear, a friend of mine from work told me of her families yearly excursions to High Hampton - She could not beleive that I new Cashiers existed..It is a lovely Inn, and the grounds are excellent...the porches remain and a true salute to the old ways... when "time was not of an essence" - people could relax and enjoy life - if only for a little while...the folks that have to have their cable TV, phones and computer modems should not go to High Hampton....it is a violation of the rules....of peaceful living! So to all of you....enjoy your stay, and if your ever fortunate enough to see the original McKee cabin, you will understand the ways of the Inn.
