It's only a room....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/11
The carpet was dirty, the bed was broken down on one side. There was no coffee maker in the room. The vending machine's drink selections were clouded over so it was "dealer's choice". We needed a room for the night, and one night was enough. (It looked like it was a great place in its heyday).

Never again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/22/11
En route from Toronto to Midcoast Maine, we used to stop here every summer. Since last time, though, the place has declined. An empty box of facial tissues. A tub/shower that hadn't been cleaned. No coffee maker. No hot water by 10 p.m. And no phone for calling the office. Next time, we'll aim for St. Alban's,

Haven't been there in years, but
By C.T.C., 5/17/10
I recall that the restaurant was a fine and classy structure (the orignal building burned down in the '90s when i was still a kid and i used to walk through it (prior to the fire), eat the fine foods they had there, while admiring the lovely old architecture! It was not a bad h/motel back then!) Sad to hear that restaurant burned down again (its been 3 years since i left/moved from NY state and hadn't heard of the bad news til just today while looking at the Google map image and reviews!! I was running a search and wanted to see how my exneighbors, near Champlain, where i was raised, was doing ;-(). The new/er structure of this restaurante was nice enough to be photographed and published in magazines! That how nice it looked. The food, i forget how good or bad it was, but it wasn't so bad and i hope they rebuild it and clean it up soon or replace the poor management fast!!!

Overpriced and
By Sambini, 8/25/09
Moldy. If you like paying for the chance to see a former resort hotel past its prime, this is the place! Room was shabby and the carpet was wet with mildew and cigarette burns. The pool outside was empty. At one point, this place must have been nice and well maintained. Not anymore. Price was high for the tackiness of it all.

the measure of all hotels -- negative
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/19/08
the Anchorage has been going down hill for 25 years -- been staying there for that long because no alternative in Rouses Point. Carpet is the same shag from the 70s - no joke. The Bar/REst was the one saving grace but that burned down. No mater where we go we can honestly say -- not as bad or dirty as the Anchorage -- such a nice spot - tear down and build a holiday inn it would be a goldmine

It used to never be like this
By ABS, 9/18/08
I stayed in this place years ago when the Bosley family owened it and it was the most delightful experiance I ever had. I was greated by such a kind woman at the front desk and there was nothing I could ask for better in the room. The carpet was clean and I had everything I needed. Its a shame that the new owners have run the place into the ground and I feel so sorry for the previous owners that they have to see the place they worked so hard for be turned into such a dive.

Wait a while
Unfortunately there was a fire recently in the restaurant part of the motel. The owner vows to re-build. Normally it is a nice motel run by nice people.

The worst place I have ever stayed in!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/07
October 2007 - unfortunately my husband and I left it too late in the evening to find a place for the night so when we found the Anchorage Motor Inn overlooking Lake Champlain, it looked in reasonable condition (it was dark!!) and they had a restaurant (we were hungry). We paid $80 USD to stay in this dump. The curtains were held over the window with only 2 hooks, none of the lights worked except for the bathroom, the TV remote didn't work but the worst was the filth. The door looked like it had never been cleaned and the carpet - smelled bad, looked bad and I kept shoes handy because I would not walk on it barefoot. I watched the clock (my own, there wasn't one in the room) all night, anxiously awaiting the arrival of morning so that we could leave. Even the restaurant experience was bad - we had to leave after waiting so long for our appetizers that never came. Rouses Point appeared to be a pretty little town but this is not the place to stay when you are there.

What a dump ( to quote Betty Davis)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/07
I stayed 2.5 hours before I decided that even at $62.50 a night, it wasn't worth it. Spiders bigger than half dollars, cob webs in every room, (as well as flies wrapped up in spider webs), a shower door so rusted it wouldn't slide, a room curtain that was falling off of it's curtain rod (not to be fixed), someone's something (chocolate? worse?) on the inside of the bedspread as I turned it down...shall I continue? I checked out, got my money back and drove to Plattsburgh where I stayed in a clean, delightful and modern establishment. (Did I mention the musty spell in the room?) Just thought I deserved better than the Anchorage. By the way, the view wasn't all that great and ther town was barren of entertainment. Do yourself a favor- SKIP IT!
