Horrible Place is a Rat Hole
By Jim, 01/22/10
This was the dirtiest Hotel that I have ever seen. The new owners have destroyed the place.

save your money!

you cant go back to 1930 when this hotel was a grand lady! the hotel was bought by indians and they should not be in the hotel trade, they give very little and charge alot! this is just a ghost of what once was, just another reminder of how so many things have changed for the worse!!

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/23/09
My experience here was horrible. There was no heat. The rooms and bathrooms were terrible. The decor was slopping. The t.v. had no remote. I would not recommed this hotel to anyone.

The Twilight Zone (The Heartbreak Hotel)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/04/09
Our visit this past December was nothing, Absolutely Nothing, like we ever experienced the past 3 times we visited this beautiful hotel. What a disappointment. The odor was horrible (no beautiful pine scent when you walked in the front door), it was dirty, nothing was appealing, everything was neglected. The charm of the past was gone. Both Restaurants and Bar were closed due to water damage! (???) Window heat pumps/air-conditioners were a Noisy, a poor replacement for the quaint radiators. All the lovely Christmas decorations inside and out went from the beautiful Victorian Era to the Twilight Zone. It is very, very sad and heartbreaking for my family and friends to see what has happened to this Hotel. We hope and pray that someone will save this landmark and bring it back to its former elegance.

Most Horrible Hotel...
By JES, 11/25/08
From the lazy, sloppily dressed desk staff to the filthy room NOTHING about this hotel was likable. The lobby smelled of old musty carpet, the lights in the corridor were out. The floor of our room was covered with dust and dirt and the chair looked like someone had used it as a toilet. I immediatley tossed it into the hall and called the front desk - no one answered and this was only after checking in TEN minutes earlier. The cable on the TV did not works and the instructions on the "air conditioner" were covered in mold. If not for visiting in high season (there were no vacancies anywhere in town (we even cheked Lake Placid and Tupper Lake...) we would have left. We slept in our clothes on top of the bed and did not bother to use the leaky shower. The coffee maker in the room only had decaf and when we called to request regular coffee...well, once again there was no answer from the front desk. Too many other things to list....and we were there less than 12 hours!!!!!! By the way, I had to give this dump at least one star - the posting system will not allow a zero (or negative) rating - which this atrocity deserves.

Spoiled food
By John, 11/03/08
We have been eating at the Hotel Saranac since 1980 and we are always happy with their food. The new owners ruined it. We waited over an hour to be served lunch. When it arrived the meat on the turkey clubs was spoiled - after one bit we walked out. We complained to the girl at the front desk - but they did not refund our money. Complained to the Chamber of Commerce, hopefully the health department shuts them down before they kill someone. Should have know there was a problem when the paper napkins stuck to the wooden table. Very dirty.

former person
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/13/08
I dont like the fact that the owner of the hotel likes to serve rotten food. He tried to have me wash off and cook green chicken that had spoiled. He aslo had catered a wedding and the food that was left over he had held for a while and then wanted me to pick through the moldy cheese to save money. another example he had a bag of mozzerella sticks that had been contaminated with defrosted fish. He picked through them and wanted me to go ahead to cook them, but i threw them out. He also wanted to serve 1 year old fish as a special. He is a horrible buissness owner and should be shut down. well i said what had to say have a nice stay in the adirondacks just not at the hotel saranac.

Smelly experience.
By Paul, 09/06/08
Place stunk, carpets were filthy, R2D2-looking air conditioners, staff was as helpful as a rock. Owners should be ashamed of themselves for pretense in their website. Stay away if you want to have a comfortable, enjoyable stay in the Adirondacks.
