Small, quiet, upscale, overpriced
My wife and I spent a night at the Plaza Athenee and had dinner in the hotel restaurant in September 2004.
For $495 a night, the room was very small overlooking a dark alley from the 6th floor. Bed, however, was extremely comfortable with high threadcount linens and oversized down pillows.
We had a late dinner (main course only) with a decent bottle of Bordeaux in the restaurant and the bill came to over $250 for two. Very well prepared albeit small portions and a bit pricey, even for NYC.
Hotel is located in a quiet, very upscale residential neighborhood and seems to cater to celebrities and others looking to avoid being noticed. We rode up in the elevator with George Hamilton.
