Casual elegance/ highly recommended.......
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/07
the Algonquin is just plain, flat out, a great place to stay in nyc. casual elegance, gracious service, good location, nostalgic history,(incl. a fully self-esteeemed resident house cat) make it hard to beat. yes, the rooms are smallish, but very well thought out and nicely appointed. if you want to spend time lounging in your room, reserve a suite there. our daughters stayed in the Dorothy Parker suite, and thought it was divine. quite frankly, we can't think of a better place to stay in nyc. the equation for the Algonquin is simple.......perfect casual elegance, all wrapped up in a compact package.

Great location -- great history and accomodation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/07
Location, location, location. Close to Times Square and Fifth Avenue shopping. Rooms are always clean, if a bit small. The suites are generous but more expensive, obviously. If you have any appreciation for New York and American literary and theatrical tradition, just sitting in the Round Table Room and ordering a Manhattan is worth the effort. I always try to stay here when on business as the rate in terms of location is reasonable -- and if you stay often enough you can get occasionally comped to a suite... Staff are top notch and remember you. A gem.

Great Location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/3/07
My family and I found this hotel to be centrally located in NYC with clean rooms, and very comfortable beds. The front desk women were a bit snobby and even rude at times. We requested a cot and simply got the runaround and no cot. We also requested a blanket and instead were told rudely by the woman at the front that they were short-staffed and that we just weren't going to get it that night. I had to get it from the service people in the morning. Otherwise, we loved the dim lighting throughout and its upscale feel. I would definitely stay there again.

NYC birthday trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/5/07
This is a phenomenal hotel with a lot of literary history to enrich the experience. The food in the Oak Room was incredible. The resident cat made this an even more wonderful experience for a cat lover. The room was a suite with a sleeper sofa and a queen-sized bed. We had great service and felt like we were living in luxury. We had coffee delivered every morning. The location is ideal. We could walk to the Red Flam diner next door for an inexpensive breakfast, and Times Square is only a block away. MoMA is also within walking distance.

A Great Place to Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/18/07
The hotel rooms were clean, kinda small and quaint. The beds were soft and the down comforters was a nice touch. I loved the location because its only a few blocks away from Time Square so its not in the hustle and bustle. The staff there was a big help to answer all our questions of where to eat, go, and transportation. The Doorman was very polite! I really recommend this hotel if your looking for an affordable place to stay and it has that historic feeling. The flat screen T.V.'s mounted on the wall aren't bad either!

Enjoyed the stay
By travel qa, 11/27/06
The location was perfect and the staff went out of their way to assist us with information on ski packages, tours and shopping. The service was great! The complimentary breakfast was a real treat and a money saver. We met other guests from all over the United States and enjoyed visiting with them.

Outstanding location and style!
By Sara, 5/27/06
The Algonquin has a wonderful location, just a couple blocks off Times Square. We were able to walk to a show on Broadway in just a few minutes. I chose the Algonquin because of a combination of location, history, style and value. I was NOT disappointed! We absolutely loved it. The rooms are quite small, so if you care about that, don't stay here! They are really nicely decorated, and we had enough room for what we needed. We ate dinner in the Round Table room one night. It was quite expensive, but it was also delicious... and they were able to accomodate us at the last minute and get us out in time for the show. The following night we had dessert in the lobby, which will make you feel like a celebrity even if you don't see any. Loved the room service and robes, too!
