Usually great, but...

We stay here every time we go to Roswell and it's usually the perfect place to stay (not luxurious, but it's always clean and nice and the staff is always friendly even though the food is usually pretty terrible) but our trip to Roswell this year was nearly ruined because of it. We came during a time when they were doing construction on most of the upper half of the hotel. Our room was on the bottom floor and we're never there during the day anyway, so we were fine with it. Our first night there though, apparently some people were having a wedding and everyone was staying there, and our neighbors (rooms were connected by doors) were incredibly rude. This woman had a child who would not go to sleep, so to solve the problem she turned up Disney Channel so loudly when I got up to use the restroom I could tell exactly which episode of which show they were watching. The next morning we talked to the front desk and they apologized and gave us a new room. However, little bits of the ceiling were actually coming off and covered the floor and some of the beds. We called the front desk and again they nicely agreed to move us to a room near to the elevators upstairs. As soon as we get there we realize it's boiling in the room, and when we try to turn on the A/C, nothing. The front desk is probably annoyed with us by now but they send up someone, and when they can't figure out what's wrong AGAIN move us to another room. Except they send us to another part of the second floor, and it's like a ghost town. All the doors are open because the rooms are under construction, plastic and wood litter the floor, and the men working on the rooms are standing around in the halls smoking cigarettes. But nothing was wrong with the room when we went inside, so we settled in. Let me tell you right now the food is usually pretty awful in the buffet. The only decent thing is the cereal and maybe the toast; the bacon is dry, the eggs are rubbery, the potatoes are cold. Though if you are planning on leaving the hotel early to go down to the lake or somewhere else the front desk does give each person a paper bag with a muffin (there are chocolate-chip, chocolate, blueberry, banana-nut, apple, etc.), a fruit, a bottle of water and some kind of breakfast bar, which is nice. I was very annoyed we had to change rooms so many times and we were not forewarned about construction, the staff was very friendly and helpful each time we had a problem and usually when we stay here it's better. The prices are great, too.
