I wanted to go back to the Rio after not going for years and I googled it and its a big empty lot???? I can still see the corner foundation of the room we would stay in. very corner 1st and second floor. very san,,, Wildwood will never be the same now, The little statue and burro were always right outside our room.

A wonderful place is gone
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/08
I used to work there. It was a wonderful place with wonderful owners. I went by the location last week after not having been there in years. I guess nothing lasts forever. Looking at the still-funtioning web site was like seeing a video of an old dream. Maybe there are still good places out there somewhere.

Haklar quadruplets will miss the Rio
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/06
Rio, I was just told this past weekend that the Rio was torn down for Condos. I couldn't believe it. We have not been down to Wildwood for the past few years due to family conflicts but that was the only hotel we had ever stayed in from the time we took our quadruplets to their very first ocean vacation when they were about 5 years old. I remember they didn't even come close to seeing over the counter when we arrived to check in. By our last visit when they were 12 or 13 they could definitely be seen across the counter. It saddens me to know that we will not be able to visit the Rio as a family ever again. With the kids all going off to college next year those memories of the 6 of us in our 'suite' on the third floor will be all we have left of our earlier days with our children and our yearly beach visit. We do have pictures as well to keep those memories alive. Best of Luck to all of you. We hope this is a new adventure for you and your staff and that the future will be a good one. Kathy, Rich, James, Gregory, Jessica, David Haklar

Hopefully this year we stay longer... Its a great place to go with friends and family. Its nice quiet no one to disturb you at all. It was the best time i ever had.

We'll definately miss you!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/05
We have been staying at the Rio for the past 8 years when we comw in from Pittsburgh to the Firefighter's Convention every year. We are going to miss the convenience of having everything in one place. Restaraunt, pool, view, and the entertainment every night! It will be hard to find a place that compares! Just came back from the convention last week and stayed at a hotel up towards the north end of the boardwalk. Could not compare to the freindly, homey atmosphere of the Rio. We did stop at the Pink Cadillac Diner and say Hello to everyone, though! I recommend everyone stop at the Pink Cadillac. It's very reasonably priced!

We Will Miss You !!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/05
The Rio Motel will be greatly misssed be me and my family, we came to look upon alot of the staff as family members .I hope everything works out for them in their new jobs .WildWood will not be the same for me and my family now that they are gone. I did go on vacation this week and it just did not seem the same to my family staying someplace else , you just cant replace a place you considered a second home for alot of years . But on the bright side , if you want to find the staff of the Rio cafe they are now at a resturant called the Pink Cadillac . I will always remember the wonderful times I had there with a great bunch of caring people

Pretty Decent Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/26/05
My fiance and I have been going to Wildwood for the past three years. Last year, we stayed at Rio for the first time. It is very convenient from the highway. It is literally one of the first hotels you reach as you enter Wildwood. Rio is about a block away from the start of the beach (the walk to the ocean is LONG from the begining!). It is about 3-4 blocks away from the begining/end of the boardwalk. I prefer something closer to the middle of the boardwalk as opposed to a few blocks away. We had an ocean view room with a balcony. The room itself was very clean but was very small. It was barely big enough for the two of us. There is no counter space. So if you come with food or snacks, be sure to bring a cooler or extra bags to store it. The ocean view is deceiving. You are directly above Atlantic ave so there is a fair amount of noise due to the traffic and the pedestrians walking right below. Do not expect a quiet, private room. Because the beach is so far away from the shore, your view of the ocean is barely visible. The extra price for ocean view is definately not worth it. We wished we had gotten a standard room. Overall, I do recommend Rio, but not the ocean view.
