Allen A Motor Inn, Wolfeboro

I've stayed here over the last 5 years once a year while doing business in the area and I like it. My most recent stay occured during Hurricane Irene, and the staff even sent care packages to each room with snacks and goodies prior to the storm. The owner and staff are all very nice and helpful. The decor is dated, however the place is clean and the grounds and location are very nice and peaceful. Compared to other lodging in Wolfeboro, this place is a bargain. There was also wireless internet which worked, even during a hurricane. I will stay here in the future and I would recomend it to others.

Had read so-so reviews, but thought we'd give it a try. Glad we did! Stayed there all of last week and had a great time. We were in one of the larger rooms in the back with glass sliders facing the pool area, and we really liked the room. The furniture was a little dated, but it was clean and in good condition. The curtains were the heavy insulating kind that kept the light out very well when we wanted to sleep in. The room was clean and freshly painted, and the bed linens and towels were clean and fresh smelling. My A/C and bath fan worked great, but when I hit the wrong switch and turned on the bathroom heater instead of the fan, there was a slight smell for a minute while it heated up, but I attribute that to no one using the heater for months through the summer. There was plenty of hot water, and the pressure in the shower was fantastic! I wish my shower at home was as good! The exterior of my building was in the process of being painted, but the painters kept their work area neat so it didn't bother us at all. Painting season is short in NH so I understand the need to get it done when you can. The pool was cool but refreshing after a days hiking around the area, and I loved that the public beach on Lake Wentworth was only a short walk from our room when we decided to go swimming there. There was an apple tree across from the front door to my room, and it was fun watching the deer catching a bite in the early morning, or seeing deer as I walked along the closed railroad track that goes from close to the motel down towards the center of Wolfeboro. It starts off as a stroll through the woods then goes right through Lake Wentworth on a raised bed. The views were just awesome! The hotel staff was courteous and very helpful - and patient when I asked for information (about a million times!) Great place for the money, especially for Wolfeboro in the summer! We'll definitely be back!

The management was nice, and the location is near beautiful lakes. I hope the sheets were clean. The carpet had cigarette burns in it. The shower rod had rust on it. The Window AC is in the bathroom. I really felt that I was taken advantage of by the price of the room. Since I had to pay upon check in and needed to stay 2 nights to visit my 100 year old Aunt, I paid $237 upon check in. If I could have paid for one night I would have left and found another INN. The rooms are primitive. The back door has no deadbolt, chain, etc. No coffee maker, iron, hair dryer. Not contemporary. I have not stayed in such a place in 40 years and stayed a couple of years ago at a nearby motor lodge that was much nicer and less expensive but was not available this time. I checked several sites out but few had a vacancy for the specific weekend I needed. I would not expect to pay more than $49 a night at such a place and the winter rates are posted at $69 a night. Even that is over priced. Sorry, but next time I will stay at the Wolfeboro Inn or a more upscale place. The price is more, but you get ten times the amenities that you do at this place. I was reminded of the cliche, "You live and Learn." I wish it had been "You get what you pay for." Oh well, Trust me, you will regret it if you throw your money away staying here.

When I was told I had to pay first before I got the room key I was a bit leery. I was directed to my room around the side of the building. We parked in the front of my room and I noticed paint peeling above the outside of the front door and broken siding surrounding the building. The front door of the room had been spray painted from a can and you could see the door paint overspray on the surrounding area. Once inside there was a terrible moldy smell and the air conditioner was set to maximum. (Probably to try and remove the odor.) Our first night was spent killing the multitiudes of bugs that were crawling underneath the door (There was a 1/2 inch gap at the bottom) Seeing as it was the 4th of July weekend and we were visiting relatives we really had no choice given the fact that the area hotels were booked solid. (We tried!) The second night was spent listening to people that that put in the room next to us with a blaring TV and kids running around till 3AM. (After a hot day the smell was getting worse!) The next day we decided to check out even though we had already paid for the night. When I confronted the desk manager he said he didnt realize that there were those type of problems. I laughed at him and told him "if you didnt know about the problems why did you ask for payment before I received my room key?" He told me there was nothing he could do but to have a nice trip home. I will do anything I can to let everyone know what a "Motel from Hell" the Allen A motel is. It was my worst experience ever. Terrible.

This place was so musty that we could barely stand it for the one night we were there. It was impossible to lessen the smell with the fan on and windows open. Cost was $119.

We have used this motel for years when dropping or picking up our son at a nearby camp. Contrary to what yahoo says about $69. per night, it is now $99. or $109. per night, which is steep for the extremely dated rooms. There are other options, such as; the Lakeview Inn, Wolfeboro Inn, and the Lake motel, but they require 2 night minimum for summer weekends. The owners are nice, but how about spending some money on fixing the place up. The pool is nice but not heated and is always freezing cold. The beach on the other hand is a short walk (or you could drive if you are morbidly obese) and is lovely. For one night on a weekend, you have no choice but here, so grin and bear it, while smelling the mold and mildew of 40 years.

Old and depressing. Close to the lake but who cares. Nice people running the place but overall just musty and depressing. The whole place was like being in an old grubby trailor.

I spent 5 days at the Allen A this summer-we have family in the area whom we always stayed with-but now that we have our own children-we opted for a place in the vicinity. It worked out wonderfully! For a very reasonable price(far less exspensive thsn motels "downtown"), the "Allen A" has rooms large enough for a small family.. but we were also offered adjoining rooms(wich we will definately opt for when our children are older). They are located about 3 minutes-by car- from the town docks, and all the quaint shops and resturaunts that Wolfeboro has to offer, so we were easily able to do all the same things we'd have done had we stayed with our relatives. Parking downtown during the summer can be problimatic.. but the "Allen A" is serviced by "Molly the Trolley", so after one day of fighting for a parking spot- we took them up on that! It was very nice- and VERY convienient! Unfortunately we didn't make it down to Lake Wentworth- wich is directly behind the Allen A(and open to the public), but we did take advantage of their lovely pool- wich is open until the early evening. My children loved it- since they are not very accustomed to swimming in lakes. The Toussaint family- who are the owners- were extremely helpful, in suggesting places to eat in and around Wolfeborough-they seem to have been EVERYWHERE themselves! They also gave us brochures about tourist attractions.. and described the amusent parks (where they had taken their children) to us! We ended up spending a day a "Story Land" in Glenn, NH on their recomendation..Our children absolutely LOVED it! They can't wait to go back next year!! The " Allen A" is an excellen value in a beautiful area! I HIGHLY reccomend it!
