A motel 6 would have been better....
By ,
I was very excited to be getting away for an overnight ski trip with my sister - no kids.... I called 1-800-go Waterville directly and talked to them about what I was looking for and they suggested the Snowy Owl.... 2 double beds, wine and cheese in the afternoon, breakfast in the am and near the town center. Good for a quick getaway. What a mistake. The Inn was completely booked with 10 year old hockey players and their little sisters. Crawling with beer swilling (yes right in the halls and lobby areas) parents who toted in cooler after cooler of 'more beer'. The kids were running wild all over the Inn. The first room we were given was right off the main lobby and it was a war zone. The manager offered to upgrade us to an end room which was at the end of the hallway and 'quietier'. However the room was gross. The floor hadn't been vacuumed in weeks, the bathroom had dirty towels and face clothes still in it at 5 pm when we checked into it. We figured we'd make the best of it as rooms were at a premium and went to have wine.... the worse cheap sweet wine ever servered to anyone. Took one sip and threw the glass away. After dinner we listened to the hockey kids running up and down the halls all night. Bathroon water leaked all night. In the morning we went down to get the promised breakfast only to find it was only servered 7:30 to 9:00 am. No coffee no nothing. What a dump. Even the parking lots weren't ploughed. Had to fight through the ruts to carry in and out the luggage. The pool was overrun with unsupervised kids doing cannonballs and only one of the 4 person hottubs was even 1/2 filled. The carpets were all unraveling and the halls were dirty and smelly. Nothing good I can say about the place except that I don't ever have to go back again. Don't be mislead into book here!!! This was the worse hotel experience I've had.... $200.00 for a motel 6 would have been better.

Not worth the money at all!
By ,
This place had to be the worse Inn to stay at. We were attending a hockey tournament and of course during winter time the rates were high. It is ok if the room was worth it, but this one wasn't. This is what we dealt with. Small room with chairs half broken, the room was room basically located in the basement where the plumbing runs through the room. The walls are paper thin, The TV didn't work, and it is very noisy at night from the other rooms above. Not to mention the parking lot was plowed very poorly. There were Puddles everywhere with no light posts working to see where you are walking. No cheese with the wine. The wine was disgusting. The breakfast was gross. To top it off the management and employees have no personality and could careless if you’re happy or not. They got paid for the room and we had to pay for this horrible experience. The only good thing about the Inn is the pool area. It is really big. However, they close it at 9:00pm. Kids are on vacation at a hockey tournament with games at night. They want to go into the pool when they get back. That was stupid. I would not recommend this Inn to my worse enemy. It needs new ownership and renovations big time.

Getting Old
By ,
If your looking for a get away, quiet in the wood this is the place. There's nothing at all, besides one row of shops, with in miles. All though the foods pretty good in the common square. The hotel isn't in its best shape. We use to go every year, but starting 2007 we went to The The Golden Eagle Lodge. It's in the same area but nice and just revenerated. Snowy Owl has a great indoor pool. It's Huge!! The time we go is in the middle of Dec. and there seems to be always a big hockey tournament going on. It's pretty loud. There are nice sitting areas outside every long hollway, but it's not very quiet when your sitting out there. The first couple years we went there was a cool spiral stair case leading up to a beutiful view, but there slow renavations made it close for almost 4 years! An up side is the free breakfast every day. Altough the cuality and amont has definitly gone down. Over all it's an old hotel that could definitly use a renavation, but it's nice if your looking for old fasion.

Manager Is Rude
By ,
I've been going to the Snowy Owl for many years. Last year was the pits. As a guest with a group, I was treated like a second class citizen. I was not alone in my feelings. There were many complaints from other guests also. If I owned this beautiful Inn, and witnessed the way the manager dealt with the guests, I would have had her physically removed. Never again will I stay there unless I'm really desperate or hear there's a new mangager.

Fantastic Inn with active management
By ,
I have stayed at this Inn many times every year for the past few years, and even got married in the Inn. Which I highly recommend!! This Inn is on a path to improvement in many ways. The new management is well aware of where they are weak and have plans to correct the problems. I've read a number of reviews about the kids being a problem. I've stayed a few nights when this has been a problem, but it's not the Inn. It's the hockey teams that come from all over and pretty much take over the Valley. The best advice I was given, was to stay away when the Hockey teams are there. Many kids are not controlled by the parents, and in reality their is little the Inn can do. I will definitely continue to visit this Inn as it is unlike any I have been to, and I am excited to see what the new management does.

NO-NO-NO-NO
By ,
My 4 sisters and I have been going to Snowy Owl for years now..New management is NOT customer friendly..I go there with my 4 sisters yearly .It's our Sisters Weekend .This year we had NO hot water ,NO heat,NO fireplace,NO Hot Tub .Although the manager on duty did try her best to make things better it was not in her control. The minute we arrived there was a foul smell in the unit that we could not explain .We did come to realize it was a propane gas smell as the tank was in the process of running out .The Maintenance man was awesome in trying to help.He brought us space heaters for heat but we could only run one as we blew fuses. We did have heat upstairs in the bedrooms .Maintenance man tried sending hot water from main building. The hotel had run out of propane. Very Very sad to see our beloved SNOWY OWL INN to be in such a situation. The manager on duty did give us one free night out of three but needless to say we have booked elsewhere for next year..Our sisters weekend was a success as we made our own fun without the amenities that should have been provided.!

Change of ownership-changed everything
By ,
My husband and I have been coming here for years and we noticed a significant decline in the services provided this time. The wine and cheese hour was nacho chips without salsa and chex mix. We asked where the cheese was and we were told they didn't get any in. The fireplaces were not lit and that also killed the mood. Kids were running and yelling up and down the hallway all night. I feel that this is a nice resort to stay at but does not deliver what it promises anymore. I don't think we'll be staying there anymore.

Perfect weekend getaway
By ,
We spent the 4th of July weekend at the Inn and we had a wonderful time. The setting is fantastic with panoramic views of the mountains. They had everything we needed right there - everything was in walking distance. We have two young boys and found the atmosphere to casual and fun. There is an outdoor pool and an indoor pool with two jacuzzis. A garage full of bikes for riding on trails and a golf course just down the street. They offered a breakfast buffet with a nice variety. The town center is next door with several restaurants and bars. There is pond with a beach area and a year round ice skating rink. We are planning to go back this year.

Not for singles
By ,
My fiance and I have been going to the Snowy Owl for years, and we have noticed a significant decline in the hotel over the past two years. One of our biggest frustrations is the shear number of children who are allowed to run up and down the hallways at all times of the day and night. The management really needs to enforce stricter rules about noise and disturbances in the hallway. The wine and cheese hour is a nice touch, but they really need to do some improvements on breakfast.
