The Ridge Tahoe Resorts, Stateline

This place is uncomfortable, dated, inconveniently located, and the service is poor. There is no air conditioning at the Ridge Tahoe, of which we were not made aware at the time of our reservation (not through Yahoo this time). We would never have booked it had we known. Now we certainly will always ask, but it never occurred to us that such a facility would not have A/C as a basic attribute. It was over 90 degrees in the room when we entered.The old-style crank windows are chained to only open six inches--so an ineffective portable swamp cooler, portable fan, and ceiling fan did very little even though it cools off some at night. We were extremely uncomfortable and did not sleep at all well during our stay. Maybe in the winter this wouldn't matter, but plenty of other things were bad, too. . . We had reserved a room with king bed, the photo of which looked spacious enough online. We discovered that the room was approximately 10 x 12 feet when you subtract the narrow entryway and the opening to the connecting door of the next room. We had to turn sideways to pass between the corner of the bed and the counter without getting a bruise from the corner of the counter! This was the smallest hotel room for the price we have ever stayed in. There was a coffee maker, coffee, and filters, but no sugar or creamer. There was a safe in the closet, which was non-operational with no power. We called the front desk on arrival and again later to ask that it be fixed, but it was never fixed and had not even been looked at by hotel staff prior to our checkout on the fourth day. There was a nice size Roman tub, but the bathtub stopper leaked so taking a nice soak was not possible. The water leaked out of the full bathtub within 10 minutes. The hot water faucet in the bathroom sink was broken such that it would go all the way around. There was a pocket door between the bed area and the vanity area which was completely off the track and could not be opened, and could not be completely shut either so we were running into it throughout our stay. They make a big point of having an "inventory list" very obviously placed so that we won't steal anything...pretty tacky...and then on the third night our bathmat was taken away and not replaced! I had to use a towel on the floor. No extra amenities are provided such as are common even in lower end motels like the Ramada or Best Western: showercaps, makeup remover towelette, shower gel, etc. They did provide shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. This facility is about a 7-10 minute drive (depending on conditions) from the lake. If you are going up there to sit by a pool or whatever, maybe that is OK, but we were there to explore the area, and the distance was annoying. Moreover the drive up Kingsbury Grade is very curvy, confusing, and dark at night. The Ridge is really for timeshares and they aren't interested in catering to normal rental guests. Plus they really want you to sign up for a timeshare presentation (in which we have absolutely no interest). After our first miserable night in the heat, we asked what the penalty would be if we shortened our stay. I thought perhaps a $50 charge or something, and we could go to another local hotel, of which there were many with vacancies (and A/C). But no! Full charge if we left. This situation is not the same thing as changing our minds about coming at all...we were unhappy with the accommodations after we actually experienced them. Guest satisfaction is evidently not their priority. Again, I think this is somehow related to them being a timeshare facility and not a normal hotel-like property. We felt that the accommodations at the Ridge Tahoe were not in keeping with the prices being charged. We were displeased by the lack of attention to our requests for repair of the safe and other problems. And we were surprised by the poor response to our dissatisfaction overall. We were quite disappointed in the Ridge Tahoe and would never stay there again.

This hotel was an extreme disappointment. Had it not been for the unhelpful staff perhaps our unfortunate experience would not have happened. We booked this hotel using a popular discount travel site. We were thrilled with the location and excited to see our room and celebrate a very special occasion. What we got was the following: Moved to an older and dirty building View of the street and parking area from our tiny, single window Dirty sheets from the prior guest Had to change the sheets ourselves (housekeeping just handed us the sheets) The most unhelpful staff ever experienced in our years of travel A 15 or 17 inch tv from the 90's The opportunity to hear everything our neighbors were saying and doing throughout the stay. After spending 2 hours for 5 phone calls between the hotel's staff and our travel site, we were finally offered another room at 9:45 p.m. and only after we changed the bedding ourselves. It is unfortunate that the staff could care less and had the nerve to share with us that discount travel site users get what they pay for and that these older buildings and below standard rooms are designated for the travel site users....An interesting piece of information that I will consider in the future when booking though a travel site. Tip: Motel 6 would have been a better choice and would have at least provided clean bedding.

We've been staying at The Ridge at least every other year for the last 8 years, sometimes every year and have never had any major issues. Sure, I got locked in the trash room once, which was sort of scary, but we've never had bad service and the accomdations have always been very clean and modern. We usually get a unit with a kitchen so haven't used the dining facilities that often, but when we have, food was good and service great. We have kids that really enjoy the pool and outside activities during the summer and the indoor ones during the winter. The shuttle makes it very convenient to get to the Stagecoach lift and also down to Stateline. You just need to plan your timing though as the ones down the mountain only run once an hour, but they sure beat driving, esp in the winter!

HI, what i'm about to tell is the truth and only the truth. Oct 2010 we stayid at The Tahoe Ridge for a family event. We booked the trip 9 months before and looking forward to have a good time with family and friend in a nice place on top of the beautiful mountain of lake Tahoe.. Well, the time we spent on the property was anything but nice. First, I was told that only the owners were allowed to have a room with a view, we were given a mountain view, with the mountain right in front of our windows , we could see ants crowl on the roocks, however, a few of our friends did have a view, overlooking the beautiful valley of Lake Tahoe and, they were not owners.. The first 24 hours of our stay were nothing but nice, the electricity went out as we were checking in . We had no light in our rooms till the next day, when we asked what we should do, the front desk told us it was not their foulth and we could get some candles in town, ( it's about 15 minutes to town, and, every thing was dark, including the streets ) or, we could go and stay in another hotel in town for the night as lot's of other people were doing. The lights were out from 4:00pm-4:00am. All my food in the fridge was spoilling, I aske the front desck for some ice, they told me the ice was on the bottom floor in the laundry room. Whit no electricity and no lights, I had a hard time find the laundry room , when i found it, the ice machine didn't work becaouse it needed electricity to give ice, I called the fornt desck again, they told me to wayit and someone would come and open the ice mechine, I waited 20 minutes in the dark, non one showed up.. I went back to the room and told the front desck to bring some ice or they would half to pay for my food, in 15 minutes, someone arrived with a bag of ice, by this time, we were in the room for 2 hoursin the dark . My husband went downtown to get some candles , we could not even use the toilet, because we could not see were it was in the room. We had just drove 8 hours drive, we were all tired and decided to go to bed and deal with it in the morning. At about 9:30pm, someone nocked at our door, it was 2 ladys from Utha, the front desck overbooked the room. It took 45 minutes for someone to come and give the ladys another room, They had just drove 12 hours and were very tired as well, we offerd them some wine, cheese and crakers, as we all set in the hall eating . The hall was the only place with some lights.. Next day, we could not get into our room, the key didn't work, the front desk told us it was a bad lock and they would send someone to fixt it. It took 30 minutes for security to let us in the room, the person at the front desk was paging never aswerd the call, he told security he didn't feel like it and he would fixt it when he was good and ready, anyway, there was nothing wrong with the lock, all we needed was new keys.. When the lights came back on, ligths next to our beds didn't work, the second bedroom had no hot water, the TV remotes didn't work, the fireplace didn't work, ( it did snow one day and the tempeture droped to 30) . I called to speek with the GM, but he never answerd the phone, I did leave a message and told him how unfrendly and unhelpfull the staff was . We decided to stay at The Tahoe Ridge in exchange with our property in Kauaii, ocean front, 2 balconies, beautiful place , but because of health reason we could not go to Kauaii and traded our time with The Tahoe Ridge , moutain veiw , problem with lights, no hot water, little heat, unfrendley personel. The property was not all that bad, the rooms were ok, a little outdated and not very clean, however, even with a mountain in our windows, the rooms were big. To end our trip, we cut our vacation short and came home early, we were not to happy with the property and will never stay there again..

To put in perspective, had this not been a gift for my boyfriend's birthday from his mother, my actions would have been much different. We arrived to find the building we were staying in to be under construction which meant garbage bins took up the majority of the underground parking, dusty and dirty conditions both in the garage and the entry, and consistent noise during the day. Given there are several building, it would have made more business sense to close that particular building during the renovation. Once in the room, we were pleased to see the room appeared to be already tastefully renovated, however for a room that had just been renovated, the ice in the fridge was "fuzzy" and stale smelling not to mention the long black hair that found residency in the fridge. The pullout mattress for the couch in the front room either had the original plastic still on it or the resort was afraid of bed bugs. The cable reception sucked to say the least...unless you came to watch the snow falling on the TV instead of outside. The electronics had no instruction on how to run it, so even with the ipod dock, it took a good 10 minutes to figure out that even though the system was on, the TV had to be on and used to select the "amplifier/ipod" to get it work even though the two appeared to be independent. The hot tube and fitness room hours were minimal. These items were all minor inconveniences that I would never pay $200/night to be burdened with, but like I mentioned, it was a gift. There are two things that I will never overlook whether the room is $50/night or the $200/night. First, I had the pleasure of taking a freezing shower the next morning, but not only was the water cold, but there was no water pressure. When asking the front desk what the problem was, we were given two answers: 1 - due to the construction, the boiler was turned off. I wasn't talking a shower at 4am, this was at 9am and no notice given that the boiler was going to be off temporarily or otherwise; 2 - the resort was trying to save money since the building was not full...well WTF? They said they were unable to reduce or comp our night due to this inconvenience. The second issue that I was not able to overlook was the fact that we returned that night (the 2nd night of our stay) to find that the cleaning staff had left garbage and soiled towels outside the door. I will NEVER recommend this place or stay at this place ever again...there are so many choices in Tahoe and much more reasonably priced with better service. Had this not been a gift, I would have left after the first night and disputed the charges for the first night due to inhabitable conditions.

This is my third time in the last year staying at The Ridge Tahoe and my last. My vacation was ruined by the staff and my needs were ignored. I could over look the dated interior because of the beautiful location but unfortunately the service has progressively become worse. It has now become intolerable. The first time we stayed at The Ridge we loved the location. The staff was a bit rude but we were able to overlooked there attitudes because of the stunning landscape. It is a bit secluded but if you enjoy mountains, skiing and Heavenly’s ski run Stage Coach is open, it works out just fine. The second time we stayed at The Ridge the staff was still rude, they made a few mistakes with our reservation and provided us with little assistance. Heavenly’s Stage Coach was closed making us drive 25 minute down the hill to get to the skiing. Our last stay was in beginning of January 2010. It was horrible and we will never be back. The employees were downright offensive. The thermostat did not work. The sheets smelled. The employees stomped up the stairway every morning at 5:45 waking us up. The roof leaked. All this and more… The Ridge did nothing to fix any of these problems. I thought surely the resort manager, Heather, would want to know about this unpleasant experience but she failed to return any of my phone calls. What a waste of a beautiful view!

Run don't walk away from this place. They do not honor their own web offers once you arrive. If you go during the ski season make sure you have a 4 wheel drive because a car with chains will not make it up the steep icy road. ( They tell you that once you check in) The internet service is horrible it keeps dropping even n the overpriced Hotel computers. There was no thermostat in our room so we froze for 3 days. The restaurant was never open if you want dining, shopping or entertainment you need to drive downtown on the steep icy road. The rooms are not soundproof you can hear people breathing in the next room, mush less screaming kids or people coming in at all hours of the night. I would not recommend the Ridge at Tahoe to anyone. Good luck if you are staying there.

The place was beautiful and close to Heavenly Valley. The only downside was the slow shuttle service to the Mtn, but the shuttle drivers were nice people.

I think this "hotel" is designed for timeshares, because it's clearly not service-oriented in a way that would inspire hotel guests to return. When I checked in and asked about breakfast options, I was told to consult the guidebook, beause I looked like someone who liked to read. I do like to read, but if answering a simple question is not the job of the front desk person, then I don't know what is. I was part of a large group of guests for a wedding, and we all had problems--major and minor, a non-working shower, alarm clocks that would randomly sound in the middle of the night, no toiletries, etc. Also, be careful of the internet usage--I paid for 3 days, but it turned off after 2. When I called to complain, I was told that the Ridge was not responsible for any of the internet services. Rather, it was an outside service, so that I should try to call and get my $ back...ah, so helpful.

The views are spectacular. The cleanliness is above average. So much to see and do. Loved the sauna and indoor/outdoor pool and spa. Can't wait to go back.
