The classic ski lodge
We had a wonderful romantic winter getaway here. Our plan was to stay two nights and ski two days. We arrived just before dinnertime on Friday night and although the restaurant was booked, the sweet gal at the front office squeezed us in for dinner. We headed up to our room and instantly felt at home. The little touches in the rooms I liked. After a shower and change of clothes it was time to head down to the restaurant. We snagged a table in the corner of the bar next to a roaring fire while we waited for a table on the river. They have lights on the water so you can actually see the rapids. The manager came to seat us when our table was ready and he asked us where we were visting from and such. So nice. Dinner was amazing. We ate so much we could hardly make room for dessert, but our waitress told us not to miss the Coffee Mud Pie. We are so glad we didn't, it was fantastic. When we returned to our room, we melted into the bed and slept better than at home.
The next morning we woke early and too advantage of the complimentary continental breakfast in the restaurant. It is self-serve and we so enjoyed the fresh coffee, sweet rolls, fruit and granola. Once again, the setting on the river is amazing. We sat at the same table where we had enjoyed dinner the night before. Our plan was to head out skiing, but we were so relaxed and lazy, we decided to follow the front desk's advice and check out downtown Truckee. What a cool town. Historic, but with great shopping. We wandered around town, had lunch at a little pattisserie and made it back to the room for a nap.
That night we went for a more simple dinner. Burgers in the bar. Very, very good. Back to bed early so we could wake early for a good ski day.
Sunday morning we repeated our perfect breakfast, only this time we got moving and made it up to the ski hill before the lifts started. A gorgeous day on the ski hill only perfected our already fantastic trip.
The River Ranch Lodge will always have a place in my heart. We could not have asked for a better ski trip.
