Will never go back again
By First Sergeant, 8/12/10
I was in Vegas on business and stayed at MGM Grand based on a recommendation from a colleague. I made reservations for myself and for two of my colleagues. We all checked in at the same time using our personal credit cards, yet somehow my card was charged for all three rooms which I did not know until I received my credit card statement a few weeks later. My receipt reflected the charges for my room only. I asked my colleagues if they were charged for their rooms and they checked their credit card statements and confirmed that they were. I sent all receipts along with copies of mine and my colleagues credit card statements to MGM and they could not explain how this happened and they refused to make it right. The rooms were small and they charged for internet access in the room and also in the business center, so it cost me $15 to check my email. The buffet was way overpriced for the level of quality and service and the other resturaunts were crowded and expensivley priced as well. When I notified the front desk about a bunch of people yelling and screaming outside of my room at 3AM it took them more than 30 minutes to respond. I had and early flight the next morning which only added to my frustration level. I believe I am beginning to understand what is wrong with Vegas and why they are losing so much money. Not all that long ago, Vegas used to set the standard for customer service and quality accomodations. Lodging and dining within the Casino resorts was always reasonably priced in years past, but today the room rates and dining costs are just as expensive as Hawaii or Europe. Lets face it, besides the lights and the gambling, Vegas has nothing else to offer but desert. I live in the midwest and if I want to gamble I can get in the car and drive to one of several different casinos all within 1-3 hours from where I live. Why would I go to Vegas if I didnt have to when for the same money I can go on a Hawaiian cruise or a trip to Italy?

dirty rooms
By evie s, 8/9/10
the place is big and beautiful. everything you need under one roof. what i was upset with is, my room was dirty. who ever was there before me left a pair of walking sandals under the sofa. the sofa sat up high so i don't know anyone could of missed them if hey had ran the vacuum. there was hairs in the bathroom.yuk! trying to set a drink while u r playing slots was very hard.the big spenders at the cards tables had no problem getting drinks.the buffet was ok, if you can find fresh food.i didnt say anything while we was there, my husband would of had a bird, lol, so once i got home i tried to let them know, but i could not find a place to take a survey on there website(i guess they don't care).but over all i had a great time.

Not a bad deal for the money
By Lisa W, 7/9/10
First, let me say the MGM is huge! The rooms can be kind of far from the casino - depending on where you're at. We were in the West Wing - received a promo from the MGM. Extremely small and not set up well. As soon as you open the door to your room you're in the bathroom!! The shower and toilet immediately to your right behind GLASS doors that don't close or keep out noise - meaning if someone is using the potty it sounds as if you're in there with them. There is a very small sink with no counter space at all right in front of you when you walk in the room. The mirror has a cool tiny tv in it though. The bed was very comfy and the so called flat-screen was so not. If you don't spend much time in your room, the accomodations are fine. The west wing is a hike from the casino but our bellhop was awesome and told us all the different ways to different parts of the MGM and strip that saved us time. We were able to pop out one of the doors right onto the strip within minutes and right next to the little Grand Canyon shop which was convenient. Bit of a hike to the pool, spa and casino however. There were not enough towels in the room. (Only 3 for 2 people) and there was no hand soap. We had to use the shower soap. For a "newly renovated" facility it is very lacking so if you're looking for "glam" avoid the West Wing. If you want a cheap place to stay it is perfect. The cleaning lady left her cell phone in our room and we had to chase her down to give it back. The food court is like one you'd find in the mall - good if you're looking for quick/fast. It is NOT cheap however. Cost us $20 for 2 pieces of pizza, one wilted side salad and a bottle of water. Most of the restaurants are fancy and expensive. We ate at Denny's which is a 5 minute walk away - found many $5.00 off and 20% off coupons for Denny's in the fun books. If you're famished the Harley Davidson Cafe had awesome service, great food and huge portions at a fair price. The pools at the MGM are wonderful and the lazy river was fun. Raft rentals are $16.00 ea/day. Only good to have raft before noon - by noon too full to use it as many people just walk through it or stand in it. Plenty of seating at all pools with plenty of spots for shade or sun. Pool waitresses take way too long to get to you, better to go get drinks yourself. Drinks are expensive - unless you buy the MGM huge mug, which we did after spending $20.00 each on 2 frozen 14 oz margaritas. The mugs are $24.00 ea and you can refill for between $11 and $16 depending on what you want. We refilled once and made our own before we came down. They do have water stations readily available for free. Music is very trendy and loud in some areas - but we enjoyed it. LOTS of early to mid 20's year olds at MGM pools. Pretty easy to find empty chairs together, unlike many of the other pools in Vegas, any time of the day. Lots of table games - most start at $10 minimum. We played Black Jack, plenty of single card deck tables. Most slots are $1 or 1 cent. Hard to find banks of 25 cent slots. Most slots require at least 5 max coins up to 20 coins! Lots of new video slots, not many progressives. Didn't see any slots really hitting anything. If you enjoy club music and love hanging poolside and don't mind walking down the strip - it's a great place. The bus is cheap and drops you off / picks up right by MGM. Take the ACES it's faster than the Deuce bus. Not a bad place at all - but I enjoyed New York New York and Ceasars better for the rooms. But it is one of the best pool complexes in Vegas. Would NOT recommend at all for kids under 16.

HORRIBLE!
By JT, 7/2/10
From the moment we walked in to the day we left,,,this place was horrible! I really am not one to complain but this trip was so disappointing to me. This was our one and only family vacation for the year. We saved and saved wanting this to be such a wonderful trip. We chose MGM because of the pool and heard it was a nice Hotel. Unfortunately it has gone down the drain. We were accompanied by my brother and his family arriving a day later who had been MGM fans in the past and recommended we stay there. They too will not be back. We checked in having to wait in a long line, understandable since it is such a huge Hotel and we were in Vegas. The man working the front never game me eye contact, was very unfriendly and when asking to link my brothers room with ours I was told I would have to change rooms in the morning and have to call to link our rooms in the morning as well. Tired and hungry I agreed, only to get to our room shortly after to have our Hotel keys not work. I had to go back down and get new keys which meant standing in that lovely line again. Once in our room, it was some what clean...a small stain on comforter that my children were sleeping in (gross), bathroom had hair on the toilet and sink (gross), the TV was missing one of the volume buttons and one of the channel buttons and was very old. Considering the type of money we pay for these rooms I just didn't find this up to par, you could of found the same TV at a Motel 6 in which I had the unfortunate experience of staying in the past. Later in our stay the towel rack fell off the wall and the after showering the shower nozzle was dirty, water shot out very hard like it was clogged in places, the whole shower unit itself is just old and stained and dirty. In one of the elevators the whole button unit wall was loose and you could push it back and forth very easily and at one point in one of our elevator trips someone trying to stop the elevator with her arm, rather then the door sensing her arm and opening back up, it kept closing? She had to take her arm out at the last minute. We were all shocked standing in the elevator. The morning after our arrival when going down stairs to work on linking my brothers room with ours, I had to again stand in the line only to get a bit of a run around but finally told they could do it. Unfortunately when my brother arrived they were put on a different floor? So I had to do all that for nothing? ....and wouldn't you know their keys did not work either and had to wait 30 minutes for security to come open their door for them? Security once in our site could not care less how long we had been waiting. She walked so slowly down the hall? Once in their room they waited one and a half hours for their luggage from bell desk! Our room happened to be right where house keeping loaded their carts every morning...they would laugh and be loud and talk,,to the point where I had to open the door and ask that they be quiet because they had woke up my child! One morning housekeeping just walked in without asking or knocking!!??It seemed like every time I had to stand in that line at the front desk everyone was complaining. It was just a joke. The place is falling apart, service is horrible and nobody really cares. On top of everything I have mentioned, our best experience was the MGM spa, where my husband and I treated our self to a well deserved massage. Thinking at least we got one good experience from the hotel when we left. I come to find out that I was about $300.00 over charged on my credit card? So if I had not of checked they would of gotten away with it! I am still waiting to hear back from a manager of the spa to dispute the charges. I will never go back no matter if they comp me rooms. The place is a piece of trash and I hope that I can eventually reach someone up on the higher end to let them know this information...maybe they will care. But maybe not!? Pass it along...MGM is no longer what it used to be. DO STAY THERE.

horrible ending to a fantastic time
By Danielle, 6/23/10
I spent 4 nights as a satisfied customer at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The pool staff was friendly the cleaning staff was always prompt with their services. However on the last day of our trip we were scheduled for a late check out as our flight back home did not depart until 12am only to find out no late check outs were allowed due to a computer issue. So they were kind enough to let us use the pool and the casino while we waited. Towards the afternoon my stomach started hurting, I became nausiated and dizzy. I have something called Crohns disease and am prone to becoming ill like this. To calm my stomach and to keep from getting sick I had to rest my head and since they did not have couches or chairs I found a quiet not crowded spot by the sports betting area. I was lying there for about 10 minutes when I was rudely told that I couldnt lie down there. I tried to explain to them my illness, which they claimed they never heard of, and that I understood they have issues with drunks and bums sleeping in the hotel, but that since there was no late check out and no couches in the lobby I had nowhere to go until my ride to airport arrived. The manager was called in and he rudely told me that I was breaking a rule. I got upset with the fact that I had no alternatives besides his offer to come to his office and sit in a chair. No thanks-I am not going alone to a strangers office just the two of us. I told him that I cant believe how heartless he was being and that I wished he could spend a day in my shoes. He then got angry and told me to get the hell out. I told him I was alone and didnt want to leave onto the strip with just me and my purse. He had 5 people follow a 130 pound women out to the door like I just tried to pull a heist. But did someone stand with me so I wouldnt be alone? Nope. I was dumbfounded about the way I was treated. If they are to have a no late checkout day they need to provide benches or a medical triage room for the ill to go to. I believe that they should have a medical triage area anyway. God knows they can afford it. This guy was on a major power trip and made a mountain over a mole hill. I think VEGAS in general could use a lesson on hospitality. I sure am glad most people dont act that way back home. Would NEVER stay at this hotel again unless I witnessed changes. One bad seed is all it takes.

New favorite place to stay!
By Vegasluvr, 6/21/10
Just got back from Vegas. Stayed here 4 nights and had the BEST time ever. This was my third trip to Vegas and definitely the most enjoyable, and a lot of it was due to the accommodations. Stayed in a grand tower deluxe room--was not offered the upgrade and was glad, as we'd been told to avoid the West Wing like the plague. This room was so much nicer than other "upgraded" rooms at other hotels and it was huge for a regular room! Super comfy king-sized bed, good-sized bathroom with a tub and a shower. Didn't have a flat-screen TV but who cares? Nice couch and coffee table, desk, closet, iron, etc. Bathroom could use a fan though--did get super steamy after a shower. Food here was all excellent! Make sure to join the Players Club--it's free, so why not? Get comps for everything you can! Also this hotel is not nearly as smoky as others we walked into. Great family vibe as well. Did not venture to the pool area but I heard nothing but great things about it. Also, staff here was super friendly! Absolutely NO complaints--would recommend MGM Grand 100% to friends and definitely will be staying here again next time!!!!!

Great place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/10
I have stayed at the MGM countless times. It is the best place to play slots in Vegas and the atmosphere is fantastic! The family loves the river pool and the restaurants. I highly recommend the MGM!
