Not Hating the Ramada.....
By arjay65, 05/23/09
O.K, like one of the reviewers, I also thought after reading some of the reviews that I may have made a mistake...I got a "no refund rate" and pretty much had to stay. Upon pullin up, my husbands first remark was "this place looks old". The outside needs some updating...maybe paint over the pink exterior (which it looked like they were in the process of doing)...but when I entered the lobby, I was pleasantly surprised. It was inviting and surprisingly kept up. There was some difficulty checking in, but the front desk was pleasant and helpful. The rooms are nice..the carpet looked fairly new on the 8th floor. The work out room is small..only 2 treadmills and 3 bikes, and I did not see a continental breakfast, nor was it mentioned to us. There were some minor things...my hair dryer was broken and they said that they would send someone to fix it...they never came. One of our couples experienced a fire drill at 3 am along with a leaky sink and a toilet issue, so I am not sure their review would be so generous. They did receive and additional discount at check out. This hotel could use a cafe' style restaurant, although they do have one that appears to open for dinner and a diner with hot dogs and hamburgers in the casino. Denny's is about a block and 1/2 away (so is Carrows). The Casino is a little shabby, but fine for a winding down before bed. The big casinos downtown are only a mile away. The pool is decent...no one was at the pool on a fairly warm May weekend. This does'nt compare to the more expensive hotels, but for half the price, I would stay again.

Dangerous place to be
By M, 12/19/08
Hotwire conned us into thinking this was a 3 star hotel... Far from it, not only is the parking lot deserted but the area felt dangerous. If you reserved this via Hotwire I would suggest sacrificing the costs and book another hotel room

Just what I wanted.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/08
Everyone was very friendly. They have free wifi and breakfast. I worked out in their fitness room, though one of the treadmills was not working. The casino was fun - not intimidating. The hotel needs a renovation, but I was confortable and had fun. Good rate and great service.

You People who are negative, quit whining!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/08
I saw the reviews after I booked a room for my family.I thought to myself,my god, what have I got myself in to?I had read the reviews that people left and thought I was going to Ghetto-ville.When we pulled up to the hotel,It was big,and very cozy and nice inside, yes the area isnt the best, but take a look downtown,it is exactly 1 minute away from the downtown in which we have stayed at Circus Circus, and Fitzgeralds, and its no different.you still see hookers, and druggies there too.So please, please! dont listen to these other people about how bad this place is,cause its not! I would take my family there again,it was a great place to staY!!!!!

Get what you pay for...
By Lisa T, 06/02/08
So we got this room for $35 on hotwire and it was exactly what we expected. The rooms were tiny but clean. The lobby was clean and the little casino attached was just fine. If you're looking for a nice room then don't stay here, but if you're jamming up to Reno for the night to party or gamble and just want a place to sleep then go for it. It's about a mile off the strip but they have a shuttle that will take you or just grab a cab which will cost you about $6. I wouldn't recommend walking since it is a little seedy around there. I would definantly stay there for the money we spent again.

This was great!
By S H, 05/13/08
Okay so what if this wasn't in a great area of Reno? Have you ever been to Reno? I live an hour away and was at this HI overnight for a concert in town. This HI was great. And what a bargain! $34.00 on hotwire for a SAT night ! Nice! The room was clean, king bed ( was expecting only a queen bed), non smoking room was just that. Everything was clean. I didn't use the restaurant. Casino downstairs if you feel like gambling without going into downtown Reno. This gets me back to the first part of this review. Downtown Reno is no Beverly Hills. Staying in the ctr. of things doesn't make things any safer. Just brighter and louder. Yeah sure you can get a suite with a whirlpool and the works staying in one of the hotel casinos, and if you can afford that, go for it. This was a nice stay and the staff was super friendly. Looking down into the parking lot from my room window, I could see cadillacs, mercedes, lots of new SUV's parked there. My point? It's not just the poor people like me that want to save money, and like great deals. I drove to the Silver Legacy which was 3 minutes away, so still very close to downtown. Granted, if your going to bring your kids for a long stay in RENO (??????), pick one of the hotel casinos that offer numerous restaurants, big arcades , andeverything right outside your door practically. Otherwise, this was a fantastic place to stay for the money. My review might be more critical if I spent $199.00 for one night, but as I said..................$$$ 34.00!! I'm so happy, I can cry. Thanks HI Reno-

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/14/08
Have stayed @ HI as a Priority club member many many times. This was NOT a typical HI experience. The Good ..the food was quite good. but a limited selection.Tall shower head .. am 6'4". 2 strip clubs easy walk from hotel..2 blocks at most. The bad ..Internet service was down for half of my 5 day stay. Staff was honest sbout it, it ways NOT internal to HI but the local RENO provider..I checked. The non smoking lobby is a joke when it has a 20 x16 open doorway to the attached casino and the smoke fill the lobby, goes into the elevator shafts and therefor on to the non smoking floors UGH!.Resturant staff continually had to be remined of the 15% discount for Priority club members. 9th floor soda machine would not take bills, told desk staff..nothing was done while there. And when I did use change to get a drink from it, it was HOT.. just awful even with ice. Chemicals in soda changes when heated for along period..tasted like antifreeze would. Other floors were out of many selections. Room staff never emptied ice bucket or replaced the plastic liner after I used it. Location was not the greatest but its not HI fault. It was here before the run down and the development moved further west into reno downtown.

Rescued!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/05/08
This could have been a nightmare. I was booked at this hotel by an travel agency and after a 12 hour work day, I arrived about 9:00 p.m. on a Monday night. The hotel is located in a seedy part of town. Going into the lobby was not looking very promising. The elevator looked as though it was on it's last leg, but I was hungry, tired and willing to make it work. I enter the room and one of the lights are not working - the one that would enable me to see to adequately adjust the room because it was cold. I let it go. The room is so small I feel like I'm bumping into myself but that's okay, I'll live with it for one night. I go to get something to eat, the restaurant is closed but the casino deli is opened I'm told. I enter the casino and I immediately find myself (a woman) walking face to face with a couple of seedy characters (two men) who from their overheard conversation, are looking for a public telephone, which is no longer there. I walk pass the casino to the so-called deli which smells of grease that may have be used and re-used for a week. I brave it out and look at the menu and the smell overpowers me so much I feel like I'm going to barf and I just have to walk out. I head toward the gift shop to buy a bag of chips - anything that would allow me to just fill the hole in my stomach and get some sleep. Just then my cell phone rings and it's a colleague who lives in Reno checking in on me to see if I'm okay with the hotel. I am almost in tears and tell him no and he comes back to the hotel to pick me up. I check out and get a refund for $82.00. We drive over to the El Dorado, I get a room with a king size bed for $54.50 plus tax - and they have room service. I am so grateful for the concern of my colleague and the angles at the El Dorado who were life savers. The Holiday Inn was AWFUL! I can't even believe the chain would even allow their name to be used there. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who cares about their peace of mind and nutrition.

Nice stop-over hotel
By Joe, 07/03/07
We're on our way to Vegas and this was a stop on the way. Just stayed on nite but really appreciated the shuttle service that took us right to Circus-Circus (a short drive) and was there 5-min after we called requesting a pickup. The rooms are clean and with more than basic furnishings. Pool was too cold for kids to swim in and the casino had a weird way of paying out in credit slips but the machines wouldn't accept them so you were always reaching for more cash as you went to another machine.
