Ruined a special trip
By ,
We did not like much about our stay here. We stayed in the older Carson Towers which we were automatically put in as part of a travel package. Having a nice room with a good view was essentail as we were treating our son to this vacation for his birthday. He loves fancy hotels and room service so we knew we wanted an upgrade. I attempted to upgrade over the phone before the trip and was told to do it when we got there. After waiting in line for one hour with only three people ahead of us to get our room, we tried to upgrad but were told they had none available. The room was horrible. The plumbing was backed up and you stood in water over your ankles by the time your shower was done, and the same with the sink. The AC did'nt work and it was old and worn out. We went to the front desk the next morning and waited behind one person for 25 minutes. When we finally got up there we told them we wanted a room change and what our issues were. They moved us to another Carson room and had all of the same problems only the AC made a loud noise that was ridiculous and we had a view of a rooftop parking lot. The bartenders are unfriendly and seem very put out and a security gaurd at the pool yelled at an elderly woman to get out of the pool, she did'nt realize it was'nt open yet. He was very rude and it was embarressing for her. The breakfast buffett was very average and certainly not worth $20 a person. Whoever is in charge of managing this hotel is either absent and unaware or they just don't care. We spent a lot of money so that our son would have a special birthday weekend and the Golden Nugget was absolutely the wrong choice. Extremely disapointed.

too many rats in hotel
By ,
there were rats at the Golden Nugget...we saw rats running along the building on the outside and there were rats inside the building...Probably looking for food from the buffet...this is over rated..maybe ok for blue collar people. Expensive, food was mediocre and over priced... Casino staff not very knowledgeable...Most dealers acted like they wanted us to go away and play somewhere else...not like it used to be... Very stiff and unfriendly...We like the old Vegas, where dealers were friendly...Too many dealers that didn't even speak our language..i.e. english..hard to ask questions and communicate with them about odds and percentages...They just didn't know.. We are moving to Suncoast ..casino

Will go back and get a great deal a second time!
By ,
I loved the price that we paid. The shark swimming pool is a one of a kind. We spend alot of time in the pool area. The common areas were spotless. The room was clean with a 46" plasma. The only thing that we did not like, they charge for local phone calls. Freemont Street was exciting and inviting. We felt very safe in the hotel and on Freemont Street. We left our car parked and took the bus every place we went away from the Nugget. The bus transit was $7/day. We will go back and save money in the plush rooms at the Golden Nugget.

Don't waste your money
By ,
Upgraded to a Deluxe Gold Club Room and it was a joke! The bathroom was horrible. I have had bigger bathrooms on cruise ships. The closet was conveniently placed so that you had to go into the bathroom and close the door to access the closet. To add insult to injury they wanted you to pay $10 for 4 cups of coffee with their in room coffee maker. Don't waste your money on an "upgrade" - it is definitely not worth it.

THERE IS NOT A THING THAT I DISLIKED ABOUT THE GOLDEN NUGGET. IF WALKING UP AND DOWN THE STRIP IS NOT YOUR THING..(I'M 43) AND YOU LIKE THE SMALL TOWN FEEL OF FREEMONT STREET THEN YOU NEED TO STAY HERE!! FUN FUN FUN

Great Bargain, Not as much fun as The Strip
By ,
If you're going to stay on/near Freemont Street, this is the place to stay. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the room was neat and clean. My only complaint might be the lack of a hairdryer. Also, our sink and bathtub had plumbing problems, but we let them know and they seemed appreciative of the information. The pool with the shark acquarium and water slide is awesome, but grimey. It's just too crowded. After going down the slide five times (I'm 29, btw, and was not the oldest on the slide!) and being wowed by the shard acquarium, I realized the water was filthy. I couldn't see clearly down to my feet, and the water was only about 4 feet deep where I was when the realization hit me. That said, I didn't get sick or anything, and the kids around me seemed happy as hell. Just shower and wash your bathing suit well. Be outside at 8:30 pm for the show. The Grotto Ristorante inside Golden Nugget and Hugo's Cellar in the Four Queens are great places to eat. GREAT. Especially Hugo's Cellar.

1st time; ALL GIRLS TRIP; had a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!
By ,
We had an absolute GREAT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The room was clean and neat, due to the 117 temp. outside, our room was just a little cool during the day. But at night, ice cold, just the way we liked it. The SHARK Tank, AWESOME!!!!!!, just the pool and loungin area was crowded, due to the overwhelming of guests. Had a free tour of a private suite; the ONLY ONE that was available (just went to the front desk and asked). The BIRTHDAY GIRL loved the casino, enjoyed the clubs, shopping was a little high, our FREMONT ST. EXPERIENCE was off the chain!!!!!!!!!!! All in all, will go back again and stay longer *maybe, we will even bring the rest of the family*. The dislike was the extreme heat, just had to deal with it.

Great Place / Great Rate
By ,
Likes: Great low rate compared to hotels on the strip. 3rd trip to Vegas and 2nd stay at GN. First trip we stayed at NYNY which was much more expense and the room was not near as nice. I happen to like Fremont St. better than the strip. Very nice rooms. Buffet is a good deal for about $20. I'd say its the best deal in town Dislikes: None really

Nice rooms, Poor Security, Poor customer service.
By ,
Clean, comfortable room. Neat shark pool, and fun surroundings. Myself and 3 other friends just got back from our stay. Enjoyed vegas, however due to lack hotel security our room was broken into, and around $6000 worth of items were stolen. Womens clothes, laptops, car keys, luggage, ipods, etc... We promptly reported it, did everything in our power, provided them with pinpoint entry and exit times, and were told to wait for 3 or 4 days for their loss department could get back to us. Sadly we all had to leave before this. Some stayed behind to get it sorted out, those who could not stay away from work were forced to drive back home. We still have just been jerked around, and from the sounds of it the hotel assumes absolutely no responsibility for their presumably simple or faulty door locks. If you want to use this hotel, I reccomend keeping anything you want to bring home with you in the safe. If it is too large (which it most likely is, you cannot fit a laptop inside the safe) I reccomend requesting that they store it for you in a vault or other safe place in the casino. In addition, the cleaning staff will disregard the "do not disturb" signs you place on the door. We were awoken twice in our 4 day stay by staff coming into our room when our sign was on. The golden nugget is a beautiful hotel, but whatever you bring with you, expect not to bring it back, or compensation for what you have lost. Good luck to all of you.
