Terrible

Where do I start? My husband and I booked a "nonrefundable" room at the Holiday Inn at the Plaza. First of all, this hotel is not really even that close to the Plaza. You have to cross a busy 6 lane road and walk quite a distance. Then coming back to the hotel, you must climb a steep hill that is difficult for 2 healthy 20 somethings! I'm not sure how they can offer "plaza view" rooms since the Plaza is such a distance and there are two large skyscrapers blocking any view.
We walked through the hotel before checking in because the outside is quite run down. The lobby is updated, but when we got on the elevator and went up to walk some hallways we were appalled at what we saw. The carpet was so worn it had holes in some places, heaters were pulling away from the drywall, and the smell of smoke on all floors was so strong I wondered if they even had nonsmoking rooms. There were also food trays that looked like they had been in the hallway for quite some time. We were a bit too early though to see any cockroaches that had found their evening meal.
Needless to say we went to another hotel to stay for the night, but we did give the Holiday Inn the courtesy of a cancellation so they could attempt to rent the room to someone else. We are still in the process of arguing with them about the "nonrefundable" rate that we paid. My guess is they know their hotel is not a place where most people will want to stay so they give low "nonrefundable" rates so that people such as myself will think they are getting a good deal and want to stay there. My husband has left the general manager numerous messages, only 1 of which has been returned. The general managers response was something like, I can't help you.
Stay away from this hotel at all costs. There are too many shady things about this hotel to mention, but I will say it's not clean, it's not close to the Plaza, it's not in the best neighborhood for walking after dark, and no one there seems to want to take responsibility for anything that goes on.
We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott for a bit more money and had an absolutely wonderful stay! Check it out!!
