Description

The tallest building in Detroit, this multi-towered, glass skyscraper is visible for many miles. Erected in 1976 and designed by architect John Portman, the RenCen, as it is widely known, was a controversial attempt at downtown revival. Much criticized at first for its isolated, fortress-like layout and its labyrinthine interior, it is now more user-friendly now that it serves as the General Motors Corporation's world headquarters. The guest rooms are perfect for the business traveler and views from many rooms and restaurants in this riverside tower, Detroit's tallest building, are spectacular. The area has nightlife within walking distance. The central tower houses the Marriott Renaissance Hotel and a revolving restaurant, The Summit, at the top. Visitors can ride elevators to the 72nd floor observation tower for a panoramic view of Detroit and Windsor. Dozens of shops and restaurants, offering a wide variety of goods, dot the lower levels.

Exceptional Accomodations
By ,
This was a very plesant hotel visit. The room was clean and had a good layout. I like the shops that are available in the hotel and just down the street. Used the people mover to get around (Greek Town, Casino) some but mostly stayed in the hotel. The view from the hotel was very nice especially overlooking the Detroit River. I was glad we did not have to worry about a car or parking. I was pleased with the visit and look forward to next time.

Splendid place to stay
By ,
I loved everything about the hotel, despite the fact that I usually stay at GreekTown. The views are wonderful and it's food is spectacular. The front desk and security were pleasant and made my weekend stay memorable.

ok for the price we paid
By ,
we used pricelline and got a room for $75 which was a deal..however, the hotel was hard to navigate, its in such a large building and we were a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. There were cups on the floor behind the drapes and trash from someones lunch in the tv cabinet. The floor looked as though it hadnt been vacuumed...Also someone in a neighboring room had a room service tray that was in front of our door for many, many hours...This would not be a place I'd recommend but again for the price it was an ok room....The beds however were awesome!

You gotta do this one
By ,
We drove in from Dayton, Ohio and stayed two days. The service was great, the amenities were first class and the covenience was simply the best. We enjoyed everything about this place and in hindsight, wish we had opted for the breakfast package, as we wound up eating at the breakfast buffet (which was also very good). Everything we experienced was first class and at a really quite reasonable rate. I look forward to going back in January 2011. We have stayed at many different hotels across the country and this on ranks at the top of the list. I read these reviews before we went booked our rooms and I have to say that I agree with most of them. It's unfortunate that one of the respondants had a problem with odors in the room, I wish their stay had been as pleasant as ours was. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Time of my life
By ,
Rooms have an amazing view of the Detroit River and Canada. There was live entertainment on the riverfront and several nice resturants located within the hotel. I enjoyed the meals and service provided by the staff and I can't wait to go again.

Very Nice Conference Hotel
By ,
I was at the Detroit Marriott for several days during a conference in early 2008. The conference rate for the rooms was not at all expensive, and the rooms were quite nice. My room on the 21st floor had a great view of the river and the bridge leading into Windsor, Canada. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was clean and well appointed. Even though the room had floor to ceiling windows and it was 3 degrees outside one night, the room was cozy and warm. There was plenty of (relatively affordable) parking, the dining options were good in general, and the restaurant on the 74th floor was really very nice, although not inexpensive! The mall and food court attached to the hotel is a nice touch, although many of the shoppes seemed to be closed, or have limited hours. Other restaurant and shopping options were nearby, however, and the hotel is within a couple of blocks of the annual "Winter Blast" venue. I really enjoyed this hotel, and would recommend it as a competitively priced option in the downtown area.

GOING ONCE A YEAR!
By ,
I first visited this hotel this past summer. I loved the nice cozy setting of the room. The service was excellent from the valet parking to the housekeeping. I loved the convenience of having fast food restaraunts right in the hotel. A movie theater and the scenery. Going outside at night and looking at the bridge to Canada was awesome. This hotel is huge! Believe it or not my favorite part was getting lost. I would recommend this hotel for any type of vacation. Especially family reunions.

Clean Rooms and Great Service
By ,
The hotel was under construction during my visit. I could hear the vibration from the drilling through the walls in my room. I called the front desk to switch my room and was quickly taken care of. When I called I was given a new room number and when i got to the front desk the new room number was already saved in the system. I didn;t have to go through the task of finding the woman that I spoke to earlier. It was easy!
