Double JJ Resort, Rothbury

We thoroughly enjoyed our vist (6 adults and 4 children). We stayed in the thoroughbred suites and the only thing we would have liked was a covered (non slippery) walkway to the waterpark (which I think they are currently making). We had some minor logistical issues with 3 families all coming at separate times, but certaininly nothing to complain about. The grandkids had a great time and we felt you were well staffed with friendly people. We took advantage of the snow hill, the waterpark, the wagon ride (not enough snow), horseback riding and eating at one of your establishments ... we are only about an hour away so for us a great location. Thank you

While I was checking in , I overheard two other quests with issues concerning their rooms , which made me concerned . When we got to our room , the fan in the heating unit could be heard from across the road . It was very loud . I informed the front desk , and a maintainence man came to the room right away . He listened to the fan and went to make a call . He came back to the room , and stated " I tried to get you an upgrade , but we're full . I'll have to try to fix it " We decided to go to dinner , while he worked on the heater . Dinner at the onsite Sundance Saloon and Steakhouse was very good . We returned to our room , about 90 minutes later ,to find the heater unit totally disassembled . The maintainence man was gone . No note, no message on the phone . We waited for about 40 minutes ,still no word . At which time my Wife went to use the bathroom . She came back out and asked if any of us ( there were 4 in the party ) had used the bathroom . I had stepped in when we first arrived , but had not used it,she then asked me to come and look . On the wall above the toilet paper roll , were two brown streaks . I didn't even bother to guess . We packed our stuff and left for the front desk . When we arrived they were expecting us . We were told " We have good news and bad news " The bad news was , that they could not fix the heater ....duh . The good news , well , the had somehow managed to find a suite in this allegedly full establlishment . Now had they done this earlier ( before we had discovered the suprise in the bathroom ) we may have taken them up on it . Sorry , too many strikes already . We declined and asked to have our money refunded ,which they did. All in all, it was a completly wasted trip for my family ,and my son's friend . Please don't ask me to recomend this place , I just can't bring myself to do it

Recently stayed in one of the cabins at the Double JJ - while it wasn't a cabin I would like to stay in for an extended period of time, for a few nights getaway, it was fine! The best thing about our stay were all the employees we met - they could not have been nicer or more helpful. The splash park was great for our little ones (1, 4 and 6) - they loved it and played for HOURS! They also loved the pony rides. Sad that we missed the sled dogs - they are well cared for and only come outside during certain temps and humidities. Next time we'll check and ahead so we can see them. If there was one thing that I didn't like so much it was how confusing finding the cabins/hotel was - larger more clear signs would be helpful but in the end we managed just fine. We will be back!

We recently took our four granddaughters, all under 12 to the Double JJ and had an absolutely wonderful time. We never ran out of things to do. We stayed in a thoroubred suite, which was very clean and lovely, we enjoyed the well-manned water park the horseback riding, the arcade, and the petting zoo and hayride. We could have stayed another week! Such a fun place to create wonderful memories!

We stayed in the Thourghbred suite #303 and LOVED IT. We were close to everything. The suite was clean and large,sleeps over 8. Full kitchen and jacuzzi tub. We loved the tubing hill. the best part was riding the tube back up the hill. Ben was a hugh help on the hill and kept the kids happy with extra pushes down. Our dog sled ride was amazing. The snow covered woods and fields were beatiful. The water park was fun. They even had huge family rafts that we could all go down on. We went to bed exhausted every night. Our bed was soft and very comfortable. We are planning 2 more trips up and will definately be staying in #303 again. Ask for a deal, they are having some great deals right now.

Great time in the family cabin. So much to do. Waterpark, hayrides, stagecoach rides, rodeo and pig roast. We did not have time to horseback ride and I don't play golf. The best family vacation ever!!

We were among the first guests to be able to use the "re-opened" remodeled Indoor Water Park over a long July weekend. The waterpark had some parts that were not open or ready yet (hot tub and kiddie fountain) but was worth it. We stayed in a 3-bedroom Thoroughbred Suite in the "new" hotel and loved it! Two story split-level, Jacuzzi, full kitchen, beatiful scenery overlooking the golf course. We loved it so much we extended for another night. The price was very reasonable for the middle of summer weekend, especially the first weekend the waterpark was available. I want to try one of the Condo units that are stand-alone 3 or 4 bedroom houses, and cant wait until all the refurbishing is done. The "Ranch" itself was still closed. The new restaurant has good food and is reasonable, but is no longer Italian. There is a lot of Double JJ themed items available, and it is definitely a nicer and better staffed than what I had heard of them prior to the closing in 2008. They really made us feel welcome, and did what they could to resolve the few minor issues of re-opening. The suites I would definitely recommend for a family group...the "Loft" rooms seemed better for Adult couples who didnt need 1600 sq feet of room! Horses, biking, golfing, indoor water park, a Friday Rodeo! and not far from Michigan Adventures.....great vacation!

Loved the Double JJ. Have been there 3 times. (98-2000)Love the rodeo, staff was great, horseback riding, have stayed in hotel, 7 person bunkhouse, and 2 person bunkhouse. Met my wife there, hoped to go back for 5th anniversary. Authentic western atmosphere. Hope to go back, when they reopen.

I love the horseback riding at the Double JJ because there is no place like it that I am aware of. Buy one get one free was a wonderful deal as my brother and friend took advantage of it. It was cheap with lots of things to do and the food was not too bad. I have nothing against children, but I loved the fact that I could be on the main ranch with adults only. I stayed at the Back 40 for the first time this summer and was disappointed. There is no dance hall, no place to play games except in the small rooms, and the loft bedroom was an accident waiting to happen. The Back 40 rooms are nicer than the main ranch as nothing ever works correctly there. Those rooms are so old they need to be bulldozed soon. They do have character and many years of fond memories. I hope the ranch does come back with some of the old amenities like unlimited riding. They have some wonderful horses and I can name many of my favorites. I hope they recover from their bankruptcy and come back with changes, but also go back to some of the old ways. I hope to be back riding again soon. They have wonderful trails and some neat places to ride like Wrangler's Run, RST, Enchanted Forest, and Pony Express just to name a few. I have no place else to ride if the ranch does not recover from Chapter 11.

I stayed there in the winter time in the cabins and we snowmobiled,we had a blast.It is to bad that the place is closing because the owner is in deat up to his eyeballs and owes money to everybody,well thanks for the memories.
