no clock in pool
By ,
I have been coming to tawas bay beach resort for a number of years, and while I have. Had a good time, they have not had a clock in the pool for over two years. When I have my grand kids in the pool I have to know the time. I have complained to them every I have been there and I am getting tired of it. If they do not care enough about us I will no longer stay there. If not fixed by the next time, I am going to the days in.

Extremely run down and dirty
By ,
The night we checked in was very hot and humid. When my family and I entered the room, the A/C was turned off and the refrigerator was unplugged. The musty, dirty smell coming from that room was horrible. I could literally taste it in the back of my throat. Not to mention that my son developed a horrible cough and night, from inhaling this stench. His cough started in that room, and at a different hotel in NY state his coughing had stopped. (maybe a coincidence or most likely the difference between a musty, moldy room and a clean hotel where the owners and staff actually care) While showering, I noticed black mold on the ceiling directly above the shower. Who knows where else that could be growing. Another thing that I didn't care for was, the housekeeping staff who "cleaned" the room unplugged my curling iron. It was not left on and was off to the side, out of the way of cleaning the bathroom. I have worked as a housekeeper "maid" in 4 hotels over the years, and the 1 thing you don't do is touch the guests' property. Not good. :( Service in the restaurant was slow and the food was ok I guess. It wasn't free, but we had a coupon for $5 off. FYI: There are no hotel chains in Tawas, MI. The Tawas Bay Beach Resort used to be a Holiday Inn. The Bay Inn up the street used to be a Days Inn. At least with hotel chains you can usually depend on a certain amount of cleanliness and just overall good service. Good luck with finding that up there.

Nay, nay stay away!
Been there, done that! Never ask "Tracey" one of the owner's to fix anything, let alone her staff (no money to fix black mold, flilty carpet, lightbulbs out, mayflies stuck in the windows until August, spiders & webs inside & out ...sorry I could go on on & on) she cannot help herself let alone others, sad person. *Hint, never stay on the first floor, even though you have to haul your luggage up stairs by yourself, elevators are a not, least you may have a chance of not breathing in mildew.*

Incompetent Owners
By ,
The staff at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort was very uncooperative when issues of cleanliness and customer satisfaction were brought to their attention. My wife refuses to ever again visit this resort and my feelings are too expensive for an upnorth motel. Only positive thing was that we were given a full refund.

Terrible Hotel Experience
By ,
Terrible hotel experience and way too expensive for the accommodations and lack of customer service! The Tawas Bay Beach Resort, formerly the Holiday Inn of E. Tawas made an error in our reservations (double booked our room) and simply refused to accomodate us for THEIR error or this inconvenience in any way. Furthermore, when we spoke to the front desk staff and also the owner's wife about the error, everyone made us feel like it was our fault for not calling back and confirming our own reservations....very unprofessional! I wrote several letters to the resort manager/owners afterwards stating our dissatisfaction with their customer service. The Tawas Bay Beach Resort tries to capitalize on the Holiday Inn name by charging higher rates, but offers none of the amenities. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. Very unprofessional and incompetent staff & new owners, the quality of the rooms need to be extensively upgraded to today's standards, and the overall experience is just something I want to forget. Save your money and many unnecessary headaches!

Has seen better days.
By ,
People are very friendly; breakfast was free and tasty. Location is wonderful if you ask for a lake view. Word is that owners are recent and are making efforts to improve the facility. I would stay there again if I was in the area. I'm sure in the warm months it's location on the water trumps any other issues.

don't ever stay here!
By ,
I checked in on business at 8pm on a very cold Sunday night-temp 5 above zero. The heat wasn't on in my room. After an hour it was still cold, although I had the heat on high and the heat light on in the bathroom. I told the clerk and asked if there was another room that was warm. She told me I could have a similar style room where the heat had been on but that it was be 10.00 more because of a lake view. I was so stunned I wasn't sure I had heard correctly. I said I may as well check out and go elsewhere. She still didn't offer the room at the same rate I had paid for the other one. Never in my years of travel, both international and US have I seen this lack of service! There were probably a total of 10 people in the whole place so there were plenty of rooms. This place is very run down and worn. The only thing probably keeping it in business is the location and the restaurant. They offer a free breakfast but I was way better off staying elsewhere and buying breakfast. When Holiday Inn actually owned this place, they had a reputation to keep up. The new owners apparently think they can capitalize on their location and not bother with customer service. I left and went to the Days Inn where I had a great room and great service.

i did not like it
By ,
I stayed at the hotel on the 24th of july, and it was me and my husbands honeymoon and the tub in the bathroom was awful i could not even take a shower in it because the soap scum on the bottom of the tub was so thick i payed 187 dollers for a room that was filthy and unsanitary.I am really unhappy about it.
