The Cove, Orleans

We stayed there the power went out for 3 hours ( 97 degrees out) (now I read in 2007 that someone had the same issue!) Our child was trying to take a nap at noon. No power no ac she cried because it got hot when she woke up. Old people staying there called and complained! Not even during "Quiet time" got told our room was not a child room. We checked in with a child they did not say anything. They took our money!!! No explanation for power outage. No sorry! Glass shelf in our bathroom was about to fall called they said they knew about it said they would fix it. Never got fixed! Bed was very comfy so there is a plus! Very close to everything! Pool was clean. But VERY VERY OUTDATED! Take your money somewhere else. Seems like they cater to people 60 and over who like outdated stuff and quiet time even during non quite hours and will pay 200 a night!

The rooms were alright, but I did not know about the quite time. You are not allowed to make a sound between 10:30pm and 7:00am. We had rented 7 rooms for 3 nights for a wedding and we had to go out so we would not make noise. one night 3 of us were there talking and we were warned to be quite or they would call the police. Never again would I stay there.

Under different ownership or management The Cove could be a quaint and acceptable budget motel. As it was, asking for a missing toaster led to a bizarre sequence of events culminating with our being asked to leave, ruining the Cape leg of the last vacation I may ever have the health to take, souring the memory of the New York City experience before and after the Cape, and forever ruining the Cape for us after it had been my favorite vacation location since early childhood. I cannot recommend The Cove to anyone under any circumstances and will never spend another dime on the Cape or any Cape product or service ever again. I have spent more than 600 nights in hotels and motels in many States and several foreign countries without EVER having had any experience even remotely as unpleasant, nor had I ever been asked to leave any business of any kind before this. I no longer even want to see family album snapshots of family vacations to the Cape going back to the early 1950s, so awful was this experience.

This is a lovely place to spend time on the Cape. My husband and I went there each year for fifteen or so years. He has passed away now, and I didn't feel I could return where we shared so many happy memories. However, I am considering visiting for a few days this summer.

The Cove and staff were all I hoped it would be . From check-in to departure the staff was friendly,helpful, and sincere. The room was perfect with fireplace and full kitchen fully stocked.Very clean ,and the variety of accomadations offered is wonderful and affordable especially during the off season . It was totally quiet in the Inn Rooms. The Perfect getaway for couples.

This is a cute enough place, but we had several issues that made our stay less than pleasant. First, our room had ants. That might not be too unusual, given that we had a refrigerator and a microwave, but I haven't seen this issue at other hotels with a similar set-up. Second, the maid forgot to clean our room. We left early in the day and arrived back in the evening to find our bed unmade, towels not replaced, etc. The young man at the front desk was very nice about it, but it still was inconvenient to deal with. With a little more effort, this would easily go up a star in value.

Attention to detail is not a strong point for the Cove. Our one week stay was very disappointing. The most positive thing I can say about this establishment is that its location is convenient to all points of interest in Orleans, including some great restaurants. Some examples of the lack of attention to detail in our efficiency unit: Upon arrival, we had 2 lightbulbs out; an inoperable bathroom fan and an inoperable cieling fan in the kitchen. We informed the management but neither were fixed prior to our departure a week later. (I believe these are items that should be part of a routine check by the management or at the very least noticed and reported by the housekeeping staff) The window sills were all so filthy that I cleaned them myself. The grounds were disappointing, weeds in all of the gardens, cigarette butts on the driveway, even some broken glass, none of which was ever cleaned up during our stay. The pool deck area had not been swept or hosed out in weeks or longer. The same bandaid was on the deck from our arrival to our departure. Not only will I not return, I will not recommend this to anyone.
