Peg Leg Inn, Rockport

Had not been to Rockport for many years. Decided to return with two dear friends one from Austraila; We stayed in the Suite that was clean, air conditioned, a lovely brook ran along side our Suite,there was a large deck outside our door which overlooked the ocean directly across the street. The location was close to the town with good walking areas. The Breakfast room was quaint and the food was most satisfying. We found the management friendly and most efficient.

I made reservations by phone. Mike was polite on the phone. When we arrived there was a note on the door. He would be back. I told him that we would be there at 3pm. We were there. We waited then some lady that was on the balcony said he would be back soon. Then some very nice young man said to call his cell phone. He didn't answer the first call but did the second and came to let us in. 30 min at least. We got there and another couple came in and he made us wait while he took care of that. Then he got a phone call. He finally took us to the room and for $160. there was no air. A fan. The room was clean, but the decor reminded me of a teenagers bedroom in the 70s. The mattress was old I mean old and the blankets had spots where cigarettes had burned holes in them. They were clean. My husband said he wreaked of alcohol. I didn't want to stay but he had my debit card number and I was concerned. I calmed down and decided to make the most of a bad situation. When I told him we would only be there one night, he said suit your self angrily. He is scarey. This man should not be operating this business in my opinion. He was mean to people when they looked at the rooms and left. There was no shampoo, hair dryer, etc. Next day we left early and ate breakfast next door. Went 10 miles up 127 and found a beautiful inn for $20 more with a pool and incredible service with a view.

It was interesting to read the reviews about Mike, the owner. We were greeted in mid-afternoon by a very drunk man who, we later found out, was Mike the owner. He was bloodied and obviously not into cleaning himself up. We did like our view but, for the price, were very disappointed to discover that there was no shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, blow dryer or iron/ironing board in the room. For that price, I expect those little amenities. The breakfast was adequate but there was no protein, only lots of carbs and fruits. The staff were friendly and accommodating but kept complaining about Mike and saying they were all quitting at the end of the season. Mike has obviously deteriorated over the last few years....as has the inn. It did not ruin our little holiday as we made the best of walking around and visiting dunes, etc...but we would not stay at this inn again. For that price, I'd choose another location. Pity, though, as it does have a nice location.

This was the second year staying at the Peg Leg Inn. It was fantastic!!! We were able to make last minute reservations and the staff was more than accommodating!!!!! We will be back again-wanting to visit in the fall and again next summer.

Michael was inappropriate - made us very uncomfortable - location was very nice...would not recommend! The view was amazing - location near stores was also nice. If Michael was not there - then it would be a different story.

I've been going there for the past 30 years and I have allways had a good time. The rooms are big and it's right in the middle of everything.Great family place.

We are from NYC and were transplanted to Boston. We wanted to spend our vacation in a MA place with ocean access, and easy to get to, we do not have a car. We found the Peg Leg Inn on the Internet. The great website convinced us this was where we wanted to spend our vacation. When we arrived by train, the hotel was only a short walk. The staff was fantastic giving recommendations for restaurants and points of interest-we were not disappointed!! We did realize we were not of the towns average older aged visitor, we didn't mind-we had what we wanted-beauty, relaxation and no fuss. Nate and Michael were nothing but fantastic hosts!! We hope to become regulars for years to come.

We paid $156.00 for a bedroom with a bath across the hall. The room had a small TV and a window air conditioner. It had no telephone and no clock for wake up. They did provide robes to cross the hall to the bathroom, which was very small, had no air conditioner, no shelf space, no hair dryer. The room did have a nice view of the bay and a deck that had to be accessed by going down the hall. Would not return.

It was Not the owner, but a very rude man... not at all helpfull, and would not help us in any way. I should have known by the way he was with us over the phone. If it was not for the great surroundings, the trip would have been ruined! Never again!

The next generation of the Welcome family takes the helm of this classic Rockport inn and steers it into the Cove with grace and precision. Beautiful yet tastfuly simple rooms greet you, with beautiful ocean views. A charming breakfast awaits guests in the mornings, with wonderful coffee. The cleanliness of the rooms are beyond reproach and the service offered is impecible! This is the ONLY place to stay when in Rockport!
