Great histiric hotel
By ,
Location was fantastic, right on the freedom trail, in the center of Boston. The room was small as would be expected in a hotel built in 1924., but that was part of how people traveled years ago. The public rooms were like a palace with bronze revolving doors and high ceilings. The staff was the most helpful and accommodating of any big city hotel I have stayed. I really do not know what some people are complaining about. If you want a Holiday Inn experience, do not stay here. There is not enough plastic decorations and ticky tacky fake elegance to suite you!!!!!!!!!!

Very Rude Staff!!!
By ,
I have never been treated so horribly by hotel staff in my entire life!!! And on top of it the rooms are the size of closets, and the bathroom barely fits one person! The only reason I was at this hotel was because of a business function, but will never go back to this place!!!

The bed wasn't nice. It was overpriced. The bathroom was tiny. The windows a/c was loud. There was bed bugs. I wouldn't stay here again.

LOVE THIS PLACE!
By ,
I'm surprised to read some reviews on here about bad experiences - my experience was the total opposite. I've stayed in many hotels in Boston and this one is at the top of the list. They made me feel so welcomed and important to them. The room was very clean and of appropriate size. My reservation was for a standard room and when I got there I found out they upgraded to a deluxe at no extra cost! The staff was wonderful from the front desk, to housekeeping to the bellers. I'll be back for sure! All those contemplating it - GO FOR IT! You will be glad you did.

A Total Dump
By ,
Everything you want in a hotel... if you want peeling paint in the halls and rooms, dirty carpets, bad plumbing, horrible TV reception and poor lighting used undoubtly to mask the overall grimness of the facilities. The first room I was given was so grim, I immediately callled the front desk and ask for something better. What I received was something a bit larger but equally dirty. I am by no means a clean freak but I do expect a certain minimum standard of clean to be maintained by a hotel. This place was so outside an even low grade standard of clean that I could not wait to get out.

Got to stay here at least once!
By ,
This is a 5 star hotel. Yes rooms are small but it's a historic hotel so it's expected. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed our stay. Perfect location if you want to see Boston. We let them park the car and didn't get back in it until we checked out. Hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful. Breaksfast buffet was great and service was first class. Beds were awesome. I was disappointed that they charge for internet access. That should have been included. I would love to go back.

Don't understand the high ratings...
By ,
Ordered a room with two double beds which was confirmed the day before. Received an extremely small room with one full-sized bed. The hotel was full, but they still refused to refund our money to allow our group to find another hotel. So, we had to squeeze a cot into the room. In addition, this visit started with the valets telling me that the ski rack on my Subaru wouldn’t fit in their garage and that they were too busy with the incoming wedding to park my car in their back-up garage. So I had to park it myself and walk 10 minutes in the pouring rain. I was completely unimpressed. The location and history are obviously stellar, but there are much better options nearby.

Great location and comfy bed
By ,
The staff and the location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic. The staff was always smiling and extremely helpful. They definitely went out of their way to make sure that we had a great time. We were close enough to walk to many locations and were right next to the T for farther trips. It's a beautiful and historic hotel, although I would not recommend putting more than 2 people in a basic room. The hotel was built a very long time ago back when people were a lot smaller, so although everything is comfy and clean, the rooms are probably a little smaller than some people would expect. However, it was just fine for my boyfriend and I. Parents with children should upgrade to a suite. We will definitely stay here again next time we return to boston.

Highly Over-Rated Hotel
By ,
We had three areas of very poor service: 1) Our reservations were not held correctly, even though we paid 40 days in advance. Further the manager would do nothing for us to make up for messing them up. Bascially, we just got a "I'm sorry we messed that up, but tough luck." 2) Housekeeping could not seem to keep our room stocked. Had to call for coffee, sugar, creamer and other things that housekeeping forgot to leave. 3) The service at the Last Hoorah (restaurant) was so slow that we twice had to get up and walk out without receiving our orders. Once we waited 20 minutes and never got our slice of cheesecake. (How long can it possibly take to serve cheesecake?) Another time we waited 20 minutes and never got our four glasses of soda. (Again, how long should one wait for a drink-only order?) The rooms are extremely small. The centralized location is pretty much the best thing this hotel has going for it.
