Great location, otherwise average
The best thing to recommend this hotel is its location: a 10-15 minute walk to Faneuil Hall (slightly longer to Boston Common) and all of the Freedom Trail activities.
We got off to a bad start when we arrived at the hotel and, despite my arrangement for "early check-in" at 12:30PM through my Hyatt Gold Passport membership, were told that our room was not ready as of 2PM. We were invited to leave our bags with the concierge and the hotel would call my cell phone when the room was ready. So, even though I had arranged for check-in at 12:30, I was not called until 5PM that a room was ready.
After checking in, the concierge told us our bags would be sent up to our room. When our bags hadn't arrived after 30 minutes, I checked with a new concierge at which point he confessed to not knowing where our bags had gone to. After another 20 minutes, we eventually had our bags - apparently our bags were incorrectly stored in their "system" and it took them a while to find them. The only reason I gave three stars for service rating on this hotel is because the concierge himself busted his tail trying to find our bags.
The hotel was also hosting the participants of a national basketball tournament as well as a university lacrosse team, which meant at least our floor and the floors above and below it were noisy. Apparently my request for a "quiet room" through the Hyatt web site was not able to be accomodated.
One other annoyance is the fact that you must take two separate elevators to get to your room or down to street level: one elevator to the lobby, and another elevator either down to street level or up to rooms. Perhaps this wouldn't have been such a big deal if the hotel weren't as crowded, but after walking miles all day the last thing you want to do is wait 10 minutes to get up to your room.
Finally, the hotel restaurant was unimpressive. A limited menu at above-average prices ($20+ per entree) discouraged us from eating there - we found better variety at lower prices elsewhere.
Overall, we would stay at this hotel again based on its location; however, there were no other factors to elevate it above any other hotel experiences.
