Lunch Buffet on a Day Trip
By sally, 10/17/11
Visited today on a bus trip from Boston. My husband and I always enjoyed dining at the Inn. We used to drive from Falmouth to enjoy lunch. Today, a buffet was offered to our group. 4 at our table. One had to wait and ask a few times for decaf coffee, I had to wait a looong time for tea. The waitress seemed to have an attitude about our requests. Another waitress came along later during the meal to check if everything was ok, she was very pleasant. The portion of each selection served at the buffet was very small. Potato's looked like frozen heated over, cold not good. String beans were really good. Two tiny pieces of Coq Au Vin Chicken and fish was also very tiny pieces. We all thought the buffet was "chintzy". A server did come to our table and asked if we wanted to use the buffet again. We did not. Other members of our group was not offered this. My husband and I did not speak of our disappointment to others at our table, they were first time diners. We do not like or expect large portions, but these portions were really ridiculous. The buffet quality was more like something you would expect at a low end discount restaurant, not a Cape Cod Inn. We would hesitate before spending the money we did on the bus trip if the Webster Inn is part of the trip. The waitress did not represent the Inn in a nice way. We were hoping to recapture and experience fine dining as we did in the past. Not!

Dining was very disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/08
Order a bottle of the recommended Merlot listed on the short advertised wine list. My husband tried it; made a face; and passed it to me. It was BAD- like vinegar. We have never sent back a wine and I was mortified to have to do it. The wine steward came out and very disdainfully told us that it was fine: It was supposed to be "acidic and peppery". HA! He asked several questions with a condescending tone and then suggested that perhaps we were more Pino-like people. I prefer Shiraz, Cab, and Merlot in that order. He brought out a Malbec for us to try - it was terrible. I ordered a Coke because constant confrontation with the wine ‘steward’ was not on my menu for the evening. My husband ordered the cab. It was barely drinkable (and he did drink it without comment to the staff). The final kicker was the steward plopping a half glass of pinot on the table because he was so sure we were 'pinot-people'. It wasn't good either. We are not wine experts- My 'taste?' and education about wine comes from eating out in high end restaurants 2-3 times a week and buying wine from a family owned store that specializes in wine counseled by the owner's son that has studied wine for the last15 years It appeared that 2 of the other tables had a similar less that satisfactory wine experience. The rest of the meal was so-so. Nothing special- some food was okay- prime rib, potato, chicken in the Bento box and some was less than okay – Miso soup, onion soup, salad. I think it was probably a good restaurant a long time ago when the standards were different. Today, people have experienced a much wider range of food (and wine) and as a whole the standards are much higher.

Some Problems Here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/08
We stayed in the Jarvis Suite for two nights. The room was romantic with a fireplace, large jacuzzi and large shower. It was really tastefully done and quite beautiful. The breakfast and restaurant's food was very good. The second morning we were there, our waitress did not credit us the $15 and we had to bring it to her attention. Even then, she thought that it would be done at the front desk. Since this was our second morning, we knew different. She checked and corrected our receipt. If this was our first morning, we would have thought it was the way she explained it to us and we would have been charged for the whole amount. The bed was not comfortable. It had a large foam cushion on top of the mattress. As my husband laid down, I rolled into him. Yes, this is romantic, but not conducive for sleeping. It is time for them to change the mattresses. The ventilation system was noisy and could be heard throughout the quiet of the night. It could also be heard in the hall. It sounded like a clothes dryer was running and small metal pieces or zippers were hitting the sides. It kept us both up for the two nights we were there. We informed the desk after the first night and they wrote it down, but it was not addressed for the second night. We had a lovely time on Cape Cod, but we went home very tired from the sleepless nights. We did not hear the couple in the next Jarvis Suite, but when they ran their tub or shower, it was if it was in our suite. It was very very loud. My husband and I have been at many of the inns in the Select Registry and this is not up to their standards. We would not recommend it to our friends. We were disappointed.

....Marriage GET AWAY
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/16/07
This is definately the place to go to renew your honeymoon. The room (Jarvis Suite) was excellent. all the extras Whirlpool, shower and fireplace really set the mood for a romantic evening. The dinner and morning breakfast buffet at the inn was exceptional. The piano playing at dinner and buffet added to the mood. My wife and I plan on another DATE in the near future at the inn...CAN'T WAIT

A Place to Be Pampered
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/07
I had a Jarves Suite with a two person jacuzzi tub, a bathroom with heated tile floors and large shower, a balcony overlooking a quiet garden, a fireplace... Can you say, "Ahhhhh?" Not until you try their Spa. Beautiful setting around the side of the Inn leads you into their most wonderful Spa. Absolute delight. Finished my stay with a dinner that included Imperial Stuffed Lobster. Absolutely perfect. Can't wait to come back for a longer stay next time!
