No air conditioning for several days, no assistance relocating
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/07
10/22/07 A friend and I booked 2 rooms at the Tidewater Inn for 3 days. When we arrived on Monday 10/22, it had been in the mid 80 degree range outdoors for several days. The hotel's compressor had broken several days prior to our arrival. Although the lobby and restaurant had a/c, none of the sleeping rooms did, dur to the compresor. We were offered/issued fans when we checked in (never a good sign). Unfortunately (and maybe this is also a fire safety hazard), the windows are painted shut and even the bellman could not open the window in several rooms to get fresh air and utilize the fan. The hotel did not know when the repairs would be made because they were extensive. They should have closed the hotel or made arrangements at the nearby Hampton Inn for guests, given the continuing hot temperatures and lack of a/c. I was appalled.

Fantastic experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/31/07
I have been coming to the Tidewater in since the 60s when I could get a two double bed room for $17.00 a night. (and I had to save up for the trip!) I love the rooms, the staff are very courteous and helpful, the food is great, the little town of Easton is exraordinary. Right down the road you can have a great meal at the Crab Cove or the Morris Inn in St Michael's. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars for value is that it no longer costs $17.00 a night, but it's still well worth saving up for!!!! S, Gaumond Staunton, VA

Take it from a local...
By Brandon, 07/06/06
Okay, I grew up in Easton, where the Tidewater has a certain local celebrity for being where the 'upper crust' stay. I've lived away for a while and have stayed there a couple of times since. To start, the Tidewater is in a fantastic location (walking distance to the best of Easton) and it has an almost bed-and-breakfast feel to it, which is pretty nice. However, some of the rooms are very small and you can't count on the service. For example, I wanted a soda or bottle of water one night and found that there are no soda, water, or ice machines on the floors. So I went down to the bar and asked for a bottled water. The kid tending bar pulled out some fancy French glass bottled water, cracked open the cap, and told me it was $8. I told him to forget it. Are you kidding me? I paid almost $100 to stay a night there and I can't get water for less than eight bucks?!? I'm sorry, but pretentiousness is no substitute for simple hospitality. In the morning we found that they no longer serve breakfast. Not even a continental breakfast. Unbelievable. So here's my advice: stay at the Tidewater for the location and competitive price, but bring a cooler of beverages and food. And don't expect much from the people who work there.

Wait for renovation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/02/06
We have stayed a the Tidewater many times in years past, but with the terrible shape the former owners left the hotel, and the fact that renovation doesn't seem to have started, I would recommend you not go. We decided not to stay after we had made reservations. Heat and AC cannot be controlled in individual rooms. The rooms look very tired and worn. Hopefully one day it will be back to its premier form, but not today.

The rooms were not very clean and the plumbing was loose in one of two rooms rented.

My new favorite town.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/04
Stayed Labor Day weekend, attentive accomadating staff. The room in the front was nicer than that in the back. If the fix the few minor problems the cost will go much higher.

The Tidewater Inn
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/09/04
The hotel is lovely, and the staff said, under new ownership. They are renovating, and bringing this historic property back to life. Our suite was large and sunny, perfect for our wedding party. The outdoor pool is private and quiet. The restaurant in house serves three meals, but we chose to eat dinner at a nearby gourmet restaurant - very convenient! The staff is friendly, and very helpful.

Tidewater Inn
By alec, 06/03/04
Spent the weekend in Easton. The hotel is quaint and full of history. It was right in downtown Easton, which is a great small town to wander through on a nice day. The hotel also had a nice restaurant and great bar.
