Grand No Longer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/1/07
When this hotel first opened its doors back in the late 70s, this was the place to be. People drove for miles to eat at Avalinos Restaurant and stay in the beautiful new high rise hotel. There was a gift shop, spa and hair salon, ballrooms, olympic size pool, night club with entertainment and dancing, liquor store and a well preserved motor lodge around the pool for those guest that wanted to drive up to their rooms. This was truely a beautiful hotel. Now what was once is no longer. The hotel is completely run down and totally filthy. This place is not taken care of like the Vidoni family cared for so many years ago. it is sad to now see this once luxury hotel look like a truck stop for the "quicky" crowd. So long Venice Inn - Best Western. You now have the name GRAND attached to your name but there is nothing by far grand about you anymore.

A Lot of Potential
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/19/07
I live in Hagerstown; my husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice as a quick "getaway." Both times we have stayed in a Jacuzzi suite, which was very nice. The jacuzzi itself is a strange shape and the jets are controlled from across the room, but usuable nonetheless. The room had a strange layout, but it is very comfortable. The staff was polite and helpful (they tracked down some champagne glasses for us). Some of the amenities listed were nonexistant: no pool and no health club. The "continental breakfast" was not mentioned to us, although my husband noticed a small table of food in the lobby as we were leaving for breakfast. Currently, the restaurant is nonexistant... it is changing ownership again! The "lounge" is a joke... we went for drinks and we were the only people there. The salon and spa is not open on the weekends, so the massages are not available when the hotel is probably doing the majority of it's business. There is so much potential in the property and business, however it is not being utilized to it's fullest. I drive by at least once a week and imagine what it could be with the right ownership.

Good Deal, Great Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/06
I loved staying in the Grand Venice Hotel. Clean rooms, friendly staff, and nice rooms. I would definitely recommend this hotel. I was hoping that there would be a pool at the hotel, but they said it wouldn't be completed for a few monthes. Pretty much my only complaint.

We'll Never Go Back !
By becky, 7/13/06
We were part of a skating competition in the area. The room was dirty and all hallways, rooms and elevators were sprinkled with plaster crumbs during our 4 days. No attempt was made to vaccuum. The pool was closed indefinitely and 90 degrees outside. A lot of disappointed kids. The AC was poor. We were told decaf only in the rooms and only 2 towels per room. Some difficulty when you have kids. There are no vending machines, no concierge, no shampoo, no gift shop for necessities, NO ROOM SERVICE an no restaurant in the hotel. There is a Perkins accessible by a covered walkway. They never had any more than 2 servers working at a time, which made breakfast a lengthy experience. Lastly, my family had to leave a day early and were told that our $65.00/night special rate was now voided and we would have to pay an additional $15.54/night as a penalty for checking out early. I asked to see the manager and the clerk said he was in charge and did have my credit card number. I had no choice but to pay. I feel robbed by their misleading ads and uncaring attitudes. Their location is not the best.

A total thumbs down
By Mad MaxB, 6/26/06
This was the worst travel experience I have ever had! I had to be moved two times. The first time was do to missing doorjamb lock plates “I was able to use my door card to jimmy it open”. The second was do to a flood, that the owner would like to blame on me and place a $2000 hold on my credit card for damages. I called Best Western customer service only to find out the hotel is no longer a Best Western affiliate and have not been for a few months. The owner was very unreasonable and called me a liar to my face. If I could have moved to another hotel, I would have but they would have charged me for the entire stay.

Don't waste your money!
By Ravnz, 6/8/06
To start, the room was musty. Then we discovered around 11pm that we had no towels. When we called the desk to tell them, they told me I could walk down to the lobby & get them myself. The toilet ran all night, jacuzzi wouldn't drain, shower leaked, AC not very cool, and the people at Perkins Restaurant were not very nice. I came back before leaving to get a pie that I had seen the day before. There weren't any ready, and the lady told me, Well, you should have bought it when you saw it... You'll know better next time! Don't worry, there won't be one...

Nicest Hotel I've Stayed At In a While
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/10/06
The hotel was great. I stayed in a beautiful room with a beautiful bathroom containing a large jacuzzi. The bathroom had dual vanities. The flooring and walls were all black tile with a mirror along one whole wall. The room contained a sofa, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, chair, desk, and a king bed. The service was above average. They have a spa located in the lobby and I highly recommend getting a massage while you stay. It was excellent. And the location was perfect for me with a bar/lounge also in the lobby.

Never Again!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/05
First of all when I called to make the reservation I was tolded that ALL the rooms had a microwave and fridge. We got they late Friday/Early Saturday (1:00am) The first room had no fridge so they moved us to another room that room had no air conditioning then they moved us a THIRD and thank god( by this time it was already 1:30 AM and exhauted from my 8 hour trip) the last time to another room. The room was clean not the best. That night was done. Well the next day after we got back to the hotel that night we noticed that they had "straighten" up the room becasue it didn't look clean. The bathroom counters where not clean nor the rest of the room and that's not all the toewls in the bathroom that they had change for us were "STAINED YELLOW" and DISGUSTING!!!!! I complained but nothing was done. I would have gone to other hotel but they were all booked.I won't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy!!

A Pleasent Change
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/5/05
Since the last time I was here (last December), the Grand Venice Hotel has come under new management. This change has made my stay here more enjoyable. The rooms are clean, and the staff is friendly. My experience was a good one.
