Who cares if you left something behind

We travel to this area regularly and recently chose this hotel to stay at again, as our first experience was okay.
The room was fairly clean and met our needs for the most part, but we had to re-hang the curtain which was hanging off half the rod. When we checked out the next morning, we closed the room door and left, unknowingly leaving a shopping bag with about $150 worth ofnew merchandise in it.
I realized this several hours later and called and spoke to the front desk clerk, who told me he thought they had found "a big bag of stuff" but I would have to talk to the manager the next day about it having it mailed or picked up.
I called the next day and the manager said he didn't know anything about it, he would check on it and call me back, which he never did. I called again the next day and he very quick response was "he didn't know where it went, must "have got thrown out or something". It is very hard to believe that this merchandise would have been mistaken for garbage, but that was the end of our conversation.
This speaks volumes to me about the staff of this hotel, and how they value their customers. Needless to say, I won't be staying here on my next visit and won't be recommending to my friends.
