Musty old place, facelifted

While the friendly check-in person halfheartedly tried to convince me that my $105 price was some sort of bargain, compared to the 'normal' rate, I was not impressed.
The furnishings in the room were new, and nice - let me start with that. As promised, the wifi internet worked well - good signal.
However, entering the hallway to my room reminded me of walking into an old officer's club somewhere - musty, rancid odor. My room featured a toilet that ran continuously; when I opened the back to see about doing a quick fix, I was confronted with hardware that appeared at least thirty years old. Arriving after 8 at night, dead tired from hours of driving in pouring rain, I didn't feel like dealing with the maintenance people...I closed the door to keep the sound from driving me nuts.
So, when I checked out, I delivered a note to the front desk mentioning this obviously long-standing problem - along with a couple of long, black hairs from the tub that the cleaning crew apparently deigned unworthy of removal after the previous visitor.
Pretty much what I've learned to expect from Holiday Inn. Not my first choice, ever.
